Big plus one here. I agree that you need to have consequences for your actions in game, but hitting someone with a OOC 5 hour sentence plus to ruin their night is not the way forward. I used to argue that prison times should be uncapped but after playing for many months with the cap, both cop and criminal RP has severely slowed down and become somewhat stagnant.

This is a faction thread. Stop bashing each other else the thread risks an archive and punishments issued.

YIKES Quoting me like that at the end At the end of that day, I still stand by what I said in that quote, it's just the player's mindset needs to change to have active RP in jail and not to tab out and watch Netflix for the duration.

OOC removals will always be a thing from all factions. Official and non official gangs do it more than you would think. OOC removals are actually more common in gangs than it is in PD.
-
OOC Punishments in PD are exactly that, OOC. There is no IC element whatsoever. Example: Suspension for Poor RP standard, OOC toxicity towards other factions, the list goes on. Suspending someone OOCly isn't an IC punishment for an OOC action, it's an OOC punishment where the person in question is being blocked from roleplaying with the faction for the set amount of time due to their actions. ICly nothing changes. @Catstify

What started this train of thought?

Logan Cross's new identity scriptly is still Logan Cross. CKing is not supported by the script. You're well within your right to kill a character of yours if you so wish to do so, but changing your name is not a CK. A CK is roleplaying the character dying then using another character slot for your new character. CKing is not supported scriptly therefore it has to be a new slot until such system exists.

-1 Was a bit of a meme when it was around and it's good that it was removed. Made PD extremely strong by 1 shotting people and vehicles.

I love how active this thread is, awesome work guys - keep it up!

Oh yeah? @Hoxton_Curry let's do this

To respond to this, PD (and I'm sure SD also) have an internal OOC protocol for "Leniency to New Players" where everything related to their arrest or jail time is advised to be reduced drastically to allow them to get back to playing to learn the ropes of the server. About the whole "Why are so many gameplay mechanics only understandable after having to go to prison or by discussing it with the staff" if you see it, RP it unless told otherwise in RP or by staff. This will stop the whole confusion in the future.

Success rate correlates with vehicle class?

+1 to stock versions of purchased vehicles on all characters. -1 to a single transferable/accessible vehicle.

To be honest, the suggestion @alexalex303 made is actually quite good but there would need to be a restriction on paying fines on charges requiring jail time and expired tickets (3 OOC days) where you cannot pay these off without interacting with an officer. (Credits @Echo45 and @Shadow)
-
More money for the government in fines that way (and more RP for all involved).
-
No, because then people can just easily bypass the whole "Failure to pay a fine" charge. We need to add RP interactions, not automate the system more.
-
+1, shit RP to drive next to a driving cruiser and /payticket 0 then spam T, Arrow up and Enter.

Dear Mr Diamond, The Los Santos Police Department thank you for publicly sharing this illegal sale of weaponry. Your information has been secured and we look forward to catching up with you shortly! Kindest Regards, Lieutenant Phillipe Sanchez

I'll read the comments after, I just want to say before reading everything - Why do PD have to lose something? IRL Cops go to work and are provided with the equipment required for duty. IRL criminals purchase their illegal items (or are supplied by their illegal organisation) to carry out their duty. The premise of this discussion (from the few responses I have read) are that they need to lose something to value their life more? If they are not valuing their life (regardless of potential item loss) they are in breach of the Fear RP rule. It is completely illogical to force PD to lose something (which I assume you mean of monetary value) as they are working with the equipment provided to them by the state. If you want to go down that route, let's raise taxes so the state can realistically afford what is required to maintain the streets,
