The drug update is from what I understand not going to be it's own update anymore but a series of additions with other updates. There are a number of "big" updates like the drug update and delivering them in their entirety would take time but also likely mean ignoring other areas of the server. Updates that are essentially something for everybody are probably better for the server, as long as they're pretty regular.

I hope that wasn't an attempt to be condescending. Like a number of rules on the server, they're open to interpretation, both by players and staff, occasionally with mixed results. My point and in fact, my post in general was putting across the idea that if we changed the police armor, then inevitably it would change police behaviour. With less armour, they would be more inclined to take preventative measures to avoid death but there are not the preventative measures that you or any of the criminals in this suggestion are hoping for. It'll get MORE sweaty dealing with cops, not less. I can understand why you might think having an even playing field is a good idea, in reality it's a terrible idea. If I'm a cop and you are a crim, I cannot do anything to you until you do something. In most circumstances, I can't fire on you until you fire on me. That gives you the advantage. I can't deploy a heavy weapon without existing reason to do so, you can use whatever you want. That gives you the advantage. While I'm sure it would be a lovely idea for everyone to play to the benefit of the roleplay, this was not, is not and will not be the server where people don't put the win first. That's just how it is and there's no point pretending it's not. Get the win with as much roleplay involved as possible, that's the goal. If we nerf PD armor, then PD will find a way of compensating for that vulnerability and I'm telling you, the same people complaining in this thread will make another thread complaining about those methods. This won't solve your problems, it'll just make more of them.
-
If the people complaining about the armour really care about balance, they won't mind cops having more reasons to shoot first right? Like those, you run and we tell you to stop and you don't so we put shots into your back kinda situations. You know like in real life? I don't think that would go down very well would it? So, the reason why we have the armour is because unlike you, cops are reactive. We need x to happen for us to do y. You have the advantage right up until the moment you open fire because it's your choice when the shooting starts. If you execute it right, it doesn't matter if it's 20 or 200. Also, if you want the armour amounts lowered, then cops are going to compensate and pull out the bigger guns (that you dont like us using) more to offset the risk. I don't think that would go down very well would it? Maybe, just maybe. Leave this as it is. -1.

Changes for LEO/Crim/Civ that NEED to be Changed/Tweaked
Bala replied to DoubleA's topic in Game Suggestions
Not really, I piss @Kris and @Osborn off regularly to the point that kris calls me the "crim whisperer" by trying to defend the point of view of the criminals. I just don't believe deepthroating the police departments is going to change things for you the way you think it might. It's only going to piss off the cop roleplayers as well. A better playing experience for criminals does not have to come at the expense of another section of the community. -
This has already been brought up as an issue previously and has been fixed, pending a development update x.

Changes for LEO/Crim/Civ that NEED to be Changed/Tweaked
Bala replied to DoubleA's topic in Game Suggestions
Cops paying for their equipment is about the most [redacted] notion that could ever be conceived to be honest. If I'm paying for my vehicle, for the gas for my vehicle, for the guns I use to keep myself safe in a server where trying to kill cops is at times an occupational hazard then I'm staying in Mission Row and I'm not responding to any calls. Or alternatively, I'm making sure that I do everything possible to "win" the situation at the expense of any role-play we might have. Could we perhaps have some sort of sanctions for police using their equipment stupidly? Absolutely, all in favour of that but that needs to be done internally and in-character. It's not, with all due respect to those outside those factions, anything to do with them anymore than how criminal factions operate is any business of the cops. If a cop totals their vehicle or gets it stolen, I think they should have to pay for it. But when you start talking some crazy talk, that ain't it. It's not that cops are OP on this server, it's that criminals are massively underappreciated and under-supported. I'm all for creating new opportunities for crims, but not at the expense of cop RPers. -
Changes for LEO/Crim/Civ that NEED to be Changed/Tweaked
Bala replied to DoubleA's topic in Game Suggestions
Yes, let's use individual cases to make something seem more of an issue. Because crims can't get their flowers, cops should get shit taken away from them as well? Nice, then we can all be miserable together. When it comes to taking stuff out of trunks, we roleplay putting them in there before we can take them out, with the exception of the scene management blockades and shit. Anyone that's pulling weapons that they haven't roleplay stored or have on them is powergaming and breaking our own faction runs. As for charge stacking and shit like that, there is nothing inherently wrong with adding all the charges that a person has committed. The problem is that it's already difficult to make money as a crim because you're paying for everything as is but you get caught and not only do you get prison, you get fines. The other problem is that the prison fucking sucks and feels like an OOC punishment. Getting arrested shouldn't feel like it doesn't have an impact on your character's behaviour but at the same time, it also shouldn't feel like you're getting fucked over out of character as well. I've lost count now of the amount of times I've banged the "improve the prison or reduce charge fines" drum and I have no intention of being a crim. I just can see as a cop how much it would suck if that was me. When you talk mentality, unfortunately, Eclipse is a lot of things to a lot of different people and we suffer from a lack of central vision of what the server is actually supposed to be. -
Reality is, you put something out there for a community this size, every one is going to have an opinion. I can't lie and pretend that I've been happy with the amount of updates we've pushed out or the timeline of when they have been pushed out. It's not been good enough but I bet the devs would tell you the exact same thing. We all know, players/staff/devs that it hasn't been good enough but that time has gone, you won't get that back now. The communication has been poor, as I've said before. Whether that's staff and devs, devs and players, staff and players on this stuff and in a lot of ways that's half the problem. When people like those that are posting on this thread or even the ones just reading it and not saying shit, are making up their own guesses as to what the situation is, then the truth doesn't necessarily matter anymore. I offered to help bridge the gap between community and devs myself, in part because it's an area that interests me and let's face it, I'm a busy cunt with a talent for writing lots on the forum. Figured it might be better if that stuff didn't come from staff, because when it does, people may assume the reasons for it are staff driven plus staff have their own issues and jobs to be focusing on. As expected, that went about as well as the National Guard As for the confusion, gun update should be here pretty soon which will offer people a lot more options when it comes to their violence. We're also taking the opportunity from the IC part to review how we license them to people as well, so all things considered, think it will be a pretty good update. I certainly have some wood over it. Then, if you read general patrol, drugs and some other bits will start coming after. Think regular but smaller updates at this point make more sense than DA BIG UPDATE.

This guy is the sort of person I'm talking about. @Ritchie Stones - Him and that blade guy. This is why we can't have a chat about nice things.
-
I couldn't say with any degree of certainty but if I had to take a guess, i'd assume that it's an issue of time but also, there are people in this community who are quite insulting when they give their opinions. I'm not talking about constructive criticism, because that can be quite helpful but the ones where they just want to shit on the development stuff or their opinion is just plain unreasonable.
-
It's not that easy though is it? You need to find a developer that you can trust, you probably can't pay them so they'll have to do it because they love it, their style of working has to be compatible with everything else that you got going on in the server. You also have to agree on how you want to do something. You have to give them access to certain things or inform them how you want things to be. You also then have to check their work to make sure it's not malicious and that it works correctly. All of which takes time, patience and trust. End of the day, we've got to where we've got with NBDY and Osvaldon doing it. The server isn't perfect and the development is slow, we all know this, you know this, I know this, they know this. But at the same time, I just think if they follow through with their promises to deliver things when they say they do then that's good enough at this point.

When it comes to the tiers, it's probably more important that they are the sort of rewards that are a pat on the back, rather than necessarily rewards that people will live or die over. Inevitably, if factions cannot achieve a certain tier for example and they really want it, it could impact how much they want to continue doing the sort of things we'd want them to do. It also has to be in the context of what this server is and what works for this server. I think by that token, keeping the rewards light and keeping it simple are the best approaches. I don't see any value in pretending to be something we are not. Being in a faction in Eclipse is largely about the flex. The lack of being to include ideas that require development does hamper this a little to be honest because all the cool things I could think of, would require someone to make them and add them. Stuff like the faction clothing or faction graffiti or changes to where a faction hangs out, being able to import more than just weapons etc.. I actually think the expansion of the amount a faction can have within their membership actually makes sense. If you are doing the right things as a faction to the point where you are able to achieve a new tier, then why wouldn't you be trusted to recruit another 10-15 people for example. Particularly if you were here long term. I also think having more support available for a faction's particular style of RP would be good. I know some of the RP events have been a little troublesome recently but I definitely think that a faction with a higher tier, if they wanted to do some kind of event that furthered their kind of RP, that should certainly be encouraged.

We have to remember that when Rockstar add some of these vehicles, it's not with roleplay servers in mind, it's with GTA Online which is a very different experience. The STX for example being bullet resistant (not bulletprop) is fine in GTA Online because of the context of what else happens in that game mode. In a roleplay server however, it's not really useful. The resistance of the glass is defined in the vehicles.meta as a flag. Flags are like characteristics which you can apply to a vehicle to have it behave in a certain way. The STX has FLAG_HAS_BULLET_RESISTANT_GLASS and will eventually break when it is continuously damaged. FLAG_HAS_BULLETPROOF_GLASS is a different flag and that behaves like the glass on buildings. You will get the impact on the glass (bullet holes and such) but it won't break. I think ideally unless a vehicle has a script reason for being reinforced like the Police TARV for example, there's not really any need for the glass to anything other than natural vehicle glass.

Lol, I'm all for variation and I'll make maps in areas to do something different. I think subtlety in changing environments is great and is the whole point of mods. You have to consider other things as well however. Is there a performance drop as a result? Are the props adding to an area or are they intrusive? What would be the point of adding these props? Does it make sense for a prop to be there? Take placing a tree for example. You don't just have to consider the visible part of the tree but also the roots, especially if it's a big tree. Tree roots will fuck a road surface up over time. As they take in water, they expand and grow which as you can imagine moves the earth around it.

It's probably not appropriate for me to comment on how someone chooses to monetise their property. I suppose if they are priced that and people are willing to pay that price to buy it then it's up to people what they do with their money. What I would like to see is more types of interiors purchasable with in-game money however.
-
While I'm not a fan of unnecessary obstructions, I'm also a fan of making environments look more 'lived in'. I wasn't a fan of the forests in Blaine County when it was implemented but now I couldn't imagine it without them so you never really know. I'm sure there is a sweet spot where we can have some new bits and pieces but dial it back a little so it perhaps as in your face. Best to fix the bugs and give it a week or two, people will have a more well rounded opinion by then.
-
Given the difficulty with which it is to find players for positive interactions already, being spread out over the city and county, adding an entirely different island would make things worse in that regard. Now if we were getting too cramped in what we have, sure, by all means expand but it doesn’t make any sense to do this now.

G'd up from the feet up, my slime.

Comments like "We gonna be banning weapons, driving above the speeding limit, alcohol use, drug use, eca eca." are nothing but ridiculous over-exaggerations really. If you really cannot draw the line between using slurs and telling someone to kill themselves when you well know is done to provoke that person OOCly from the other areas and themes of roleplay then that's a little short-sighted. If people can refrain from roleplay fucking in public or calling each other cod-lobby slurs over VOIP, then you can do without telling someone to kill themselves, is it really that big of an ask? The reality is, the same kind of people thinking this is soft or ridiculous or unjust or infringing their rights would be the same sort of individuals that for any slight to their character would be on the forums themselves cooking up a storm. If some people in this community have shown anything besides their intolerance or OOC civility for fellow community members that might be living in situations quite different to theirs, it's that they're not incapable of handling things as they just naturally are. If I thought for a second that everyone in this server could actually handle the server being an accurate portrayal of the things that are said and done in real life, then I wouldn't have ever suggested any kind of partial censorship. But the reality is, there are some individuals and groups and demographics in Eclipse who are in need of some safeguarding so that they can be a part of this as much as anyone else. If you are someone that is comfortable enough in themselves that being insulted or exposed to toxic negativity doesn't phase you, I do love that for you. At the same time, most of us have certain limitations but will let quite a bit go. There is also that group of people who may or may not represent certain demographics that need to feel comfortable to play here and in order for that to happen, certain compromises have to be made. The irony of the comment I mentioned is that I'd love to see more violent roleplay, I don't mind the speeding and I think people using more alcohol and drugs in the server would be great. What isn't great however is telling someone to kill themselves because you're trying to get a rise out of the person behind the character. That's all I feel I gotta say on the subject to be honest.

Top marks, I take the time to create a serious discussion topic that is something actually different from the hordes of "the state of.." threads and people, including staff members decide to turn it into a meme. I should have expected as much really and I think I'm more disappointed in myself for thinking it would be anything other than what it ended up being. This can be closed, thank you to those people who took the discussion seriously, even if you didn't agree with the course of action.

I brought this up with one of the devs a couple of weeks ago and they really liked the idea, so perhaps in future this will be a thing.

What's funny about it exactly? I'd consider myself to be a reasonably funny guy and I love a good joke but I'm really not getting the nuances here. What would be funny about telling someone in-game to go and kill themselves, then having that person be personally effected by it. Say you had a brother and that brother of yours decided to take their own life. Few weeks or months later, some little shit mid-rp tells you to go kill yourself. That's hilarious isn't it? Another example, this time it's you. You've been depressed for most of your life. Times are tough, you hate yourself and feel like it'd be better if you weren't living anymore. You come on ECRP and it's fun, helps take your mind off the shit you have to deal with. Then some little prick during an RP one day keeps telling you to kill yourself over and over because they think it's funny. That's a proper LOL right there ain't it? You know what, people under 18 probably shouldn't play GTA but we all know for a fact that we have teenagers on this server, probably some of them will read this or even post on it. Teenagers who are emotionally under-developed and whether they are coming on here for a giggle or using the community for an escape from a shit situation. A little light reading will tell you that nearly 20% of U.S. high school students have reported serious thoughts of suicide and around 9% have actually gone as far as making an attempt on their own life. How many american kids do we have in this community at high school age? Potentially, a fifth of them have thought about killing themselves. A tenth of that number have actually tried to kill themselves. Maybe you think that kind of thing is funny or those people are just being soft? I get it, it's a big ask to consider other people, especially if you are young yourself but again, it circles back to, this is not something that people NEED to be saying to other people is it? You know what, I think there is some part of what you just said that makes sense. If people are in need, they should see a medical professional, absolutely. That said though, you have a terrible understanding of how mental health can effect a person. You know absolutely nothing of negative triggers. If you encountered someone who told you they wanted to kill themselves? You wouldn't tell them to do it, would you? Chances are that they won't tell you that, they'll simply suffer in silence. Maybe you telling them to kill themselves doesn't push them over the edge, but it doesn't help them any does it? This isn't me trying to get the ability to insult each other taken away, I love someone calling me a cunt. Like genuinely, I think it's hilarious. But there are certain terms and phrases that aren't acceptable, for one reason or another. Telling someone to kill themselves is one of those.
-
Yeah but see here is the thing, it's a roleplay community, not a cod lobby. You shouldn't be put in a position where you are having to defend yourself because of your skin colour in the first place. I get you aren't "soft" and that's great, for you, but at the same time, other people are more sensitive to that kind of language and you have to make rules based on the community, not on whether someone can argue back. KYS being a shit-talk phrase is one of the reasons that it shouldn't be used. It's internet jargon but your character in Eclipse isn't on the internet, they're in person. I don't remember watching a single piece of media where when a cop was arresting someone, the perp turned around and told them to kill themselves. They'd use racist or homophobic language, sure, but telling someone to kill themselves in Eclipse is a meta-term. I'm not saying it happens but to me, that isn't a realistic portrayal. Neither is a gang member going up to another gang member after shooting him and telling him to "get clapped retard". I'm certainly not going to back a community that thinks people with mental health issues shouldn't be playing the game, or in fact those by extension that are offended by racism or homophobia or transphobia shouldn't play the game, just so some little edge lord can feel better about getting to people on an OOC level. Ultimately, what are you giving up here? The ability to tell someone to kill themselves. That's not a big ask at all is it?
-
These things of it being "censorship" or that individuals should be 18 and be able to handle it are false. On the subject of age, you know full well that while it's an 18 rated game, we have a significant amount of people under that age in this community. Short of checking peoples real life information there would be absolutely no way to check if a person was legally an adult or not. But even then, a person could be 18.. 19.. 24.. 28 etc.. and be emotionally immature. They might just naturally have a sensitive disposition. They might have mental health issues of their own. It might just be that in some cases, they don't want to interact with people abusing VOIP to try and disgust them into an OOC reaction. On the subject of censorship, if someone can provide me a legitimate way in which not being able to tell someone to end their life ruins their roleplay then I'll ask for the thread to be closed. It was the same argument with not being able to say the N word or use homophobic language. The English language is vast. If "kill yourself" is a default response then that says more about you as a role-player than the 'snowflake' that we're supposedly protecting. How it is enforced is real simple, you just don't fucking say it and if you feel that that it's important to the roleplay for you to say it, then drop in a /b, "you okay with me telling you to kys?" or "Is it alright for me to tell you to kill yourself?" - You might that's impractical but if it's an important part of the RP where you just have to say it, then you'll make the time to ask right? Eclipse is a privately owned GTA-based roleplaying community. There is no outside guidance that we have to operate by, it's simply a set of rules dictated by the staff team and compliance of those rules is essential for your continued inclusion in the community. There is no censorship of a right to say what you want because you simply don't have the right to say what you want. Free speech is not a thing in that sense and there are certain things that you cannot say. While GTA has an ESRB rating of 17+, the community has more of a Teen rating. Rated 17+ would be Games with this rating contain content that is suitable for ages 17 and over. May contain intense violence, blood and gore, sexual content, and strong language. Teen rating would be Games with this rating contain content that is suitable for ages 13 and over. May contain violence, suggestive themes, crude humor, minimal blood, and the infrequent use of strong language. We don't allow gross roleplay and we don't allow disgusting roleplay by design, so lets put that adult game bit to bed.
