The UNRP driving is not an in-character issue, it's a community issue.

Recommended Posts

I just want to say that today has been rather eventful for me (I have low standards). I got half the community to hate me, and the other half to praise me for my idea. As the title states, we are starting to reach an understanding of one another and have come to a middle ground: The driving in this community is bad. It's not anyone's fault. It's everyone's fault. The only way to fix it is if we all make an attempt. Here's what I propose: Instead of nitpicking everyone's driving, let's make it a goal to follow every law of the road while in Los Santos. If you've ever driven in real life, drive like that. If you ever want to drive like an animal, take it to the dirt track in Sandy Shores, or setup a dedicated street race and do it that way, I bet you could even use the horse track in Los Santos as a dirt track for organized events. Avoid using the streets (unless it is an organized race event) to drive unrealistically.

Let's all go back to stopping at red lights and driving the speed limit and staying in our lanes. It sounds ridiculous, but if 90% of people are following 50% of the laws, the 10% will likely follow the same laws, or be more likely to get stopped by police. The police don't stop anyone anymore because everyone's breaking the law. Be a better driver. Tell your friends to be better drivers. It will take some time, but I want us all to be prepared for NPC drivers in the RAGE update.

Thanks.

EDIT: The admins are defending UNRP driving. All my reports got denied, even the one where a crime was committed in a NCZ. The admins are at the top of the food chain. The only way for driving to be more realistic is for them to enforce SOMETHING. Otherwise, people are going to drive batshit crazy and UNRPly.

Actually you know what, It's not even worth trying to make this server more RP. I'll just join another server. Bye all.

Going to be honest about it and I bet Iots of people thinks the same. I'm going to follow traffic lines, speed limit, going to look at both sides while driving trough intersection. Although I'm not going to follow traffic lights. Why? Simple cuz there's no TRAFFIC in the first place. These traffic lights are created for TRAFFIC not for empty roads. If there would be npcs driving I would have no problem doing that, but to stop at every red traffic light when there's no one is just pointless even if this is "RP" server. Honestly I don't even think that this server should be called RP since we're living in post apocalyptic world where the town is "ruled" by less than 200 active people. The problem is that Los Santos is too big for 200 people if it would be smaller city i wouldn't say anything about fully following traffic lights.

Another thing about this. RP DRIVING punishes civilians without government job. If you're a criminal you don't give a shit about driving rp since you just rob people, if you're in government faction you get paid by by working. If you're a post carrier/trucker/security you get PAID BY DELIVERY, where's rp in that aswell shouldn't all jobs get paid by HOUR?

I see your point and I agree with the traffic lights being treated like "yield" signs. I think this could cause accidents, but I've only come close to an accident once so far, and it was my fault.

In regards to trucking, you get an hourly pay on top of delivery pay. I have 50k and a 16k car and I'm not at 3500 XP yet. Now that I have that 50k, I feel comfortable, and dont have to rush deliveries anymore. I have more time to roleplay while I work. CB radio is often dead though.

Pd will pull over drivers that are breaking the traffic laws in Los Santos, You got to think we have high priority calls that doing traffic stops, But pd will pull them over if we see them and roleplay with you and make your experiencereally good.

Hope this helps alittle bit

Thats also a fair point. If I could recommend anything to PD, it would be to have more members/on-duty. I haven't been pulled over yet, and I've only seen 1 casual stop.

Dynamic speed cameras could be an interesting solution. Emergency vehicles excluded of course.

There was a fair point made, regarding robbers robbing law abiding traffic drivers. I just think, that people shouldn't be pulled over and robbed on the mid of daylight and an open street with good visibility. Same goes for pedestrians of course. There could always be someone observing and reporting it in, in theory.

I love to drive according to law, sometimes I am looking for the "kick" (having a super car and other "toys") although, but never in the city and trying to drive not too life endangering for me. It's been a very long time, since I had to call a paramedic for a vehicle accident, but maybe, that's just me.

My biggest gripe as a member of the LSPD is not stupid driving but the fact that almost everyone drives to a ridiculous speed in the city. It's not uncommon at all to have vehicles blaze past at 180kmph for no particular reason. That type of driving in the city is just not valuing your life, I feel.

I've gotten tired of arresting everybody for reckless operation (150+ in the city) so I setup speed traps specifically where speeds usually arent above that. It gets old having the ratio of arrests to citations in traffic stops being extremely high, not to mention the difficulty of catching those vehicles which is really why they travel at that speed I feel.

I'm completely of mind that we should have a rules limitation on driving ridiculously fast in the city for no reason. Racing? Okay, sure. Fleeing? Great. Impatiently wanting to get from tequilala to the bank as fast as humanly possible? Not so much.

I agree with @Com783. Speed cameras that automatically send you a speeding ticket if you reach more than +20km/h or similiar.
This was implemented on one of the greatest SAMP servers and worked without major issues. It is ridiculous to get 10 new patients outside Pillbox Hill MD because people are driving 200 km/h and then to get inside the emergency drop off lane. That would be a GREAT location to place a speeding cam.

Placing a speed camera right where the highway ends pointing Northbound and taking pictures of southbound traffic coming into LS and passing MD would be a perfect place for a speed camera.

i often do /Cruise 80, not 70. but thats only because my character likes going a little faster than everyone else. ( i drive a maxed schafter V12 ) If my character is very busy, he sometimes does about 150 on big roads in the city. But not without a reason. And he knows the risk of getting pulled over aswell. I try to stop at as many red lights as possible, and OFTEN i actually see people across the lights, doing the same thing, simply because i'm doing it! ( maybe the think i'm a cop? ) whenever i see a cop i also drive as nice as i can. I mean -> It's RP. People against these things, are people who drive supers and dont give a fuck, or people who just dont give a fuck generally about the level of RP, or RP driving. big +1 on this one man. I hope speed cameras become a thing

I spend the majority of my time, driving a courier truck.
As much as I enjoy roleplay driving, I don't really stop for red ( except if I'm roleplaying of course )
That being said, I mostly /cruise 70, and sometimes I do go faster. ( Even though I was punished with a ticket last time I started speeding ).
And honestly, I think it's okay as long as people just watch out before emerging.
As someone said, it's not a really dense populated city, it's understandable players don't want to stop at red lights while delivering ( Since you're paid per delivery, plus you can't even stop your cars sometimes without getting rear ended with 200 km/h )

I just think that maybe we should teach people to slow down at intersections and check both sides, instead of flying past it top speed, or completely stopping. ( <-- Unless if they want to of course )

Traffic lights aren't synced. There's no traffic in the city so there's no reason to follow traffic lights. I speed through the city with my car all the time and getting a "commitment" from the community isn't going to work.

Traffic lights have been synced since rage 0.3.2

Normally players who have been on the server for a while and have got some form of reputation will stop and apologise for any traffic collision if they caused it. If you are talking about people driving dangerously then its down to PD to challenge that mentality, hopefully speed cameras will reduce dangerous driving. I have been pulled over a fair bit on my criminal character for dangerous driving, failing to maintain lane and speeding in various areas on the map so there is definitely some police officers attempting to combat this issue.

You mentioned that admins are not punishing players for breaking road laws in NCZs but the rules state that victimless crimes can be committed in NCZs and often breaking road laws has no victim. I would understand if two players had a traffic collision and one of them was killed during the incident then it is a different matter as there is clearly a victim and a player could have charges pressed for manslaughter, but from my experience this is quite rare.
