+1 The timer should be defined as "within both parties session of play." meaning for the rest of the time either would be logged on which on this server is an easy 12-hours This means if beef starts as you log in you have to watch your back for the rest of your session but when you log back in tomorrow its done. The whole point of the rule is "everyone should know why they are getting shot at." if i fucked someone over earlier that day ill know full well why. submitting re-escalation reports smacks of ruleplaying a lot of the time.

Modify player speed based on what AP amount they have equipped
Quietthecutie replied to Demonmit1's topic in Game Suggestions
The issue i have with this is i just dont think its a change that would work, make the chamges you want to see. It would basically make footchases extreemely tedius for LEOs whilst not really making gunfights that harder for them. Also if we wanna talk running realisim have you ever tried sprinting with your hands tied behind your back? Its wild how people can do that in the city without stumbling and falling on their face every now and again. -
The issue isnt the money. I have worked for JB in the past and honestly i have more fun working at burgershot. As ive said, when the actual legal stuffs goin on and trials are happening etc, its great. but between all that its just so much waiting, paperwork, more waiting, even more paperwork. dockets upon dockets several pages long. oh and the waiting. in a way JB was almost too well designed. we wanted it to ape actual real world courts and it does aspects of that incredibly well. infact it does them too well. the slow wheels of justice and alot of paperwork and proceedure that whilst vital in IRL courts in a videogame is just largely unnecessary. We need to cut down on the paperwork, shorten wait times, make the courts more accessible and much faster. if we can achieve that more people will want to work for JB.

Im not jumping on anyone, and this wasnt anything to do with their legal knowlege. they made assumptions about a branch of government they didnt have the correct details on, Declared something in big red swinging dick capslock and got called out for it. I would expect the same for and from anyone. It is however nice that we are all at lease in agreeance that in its current format JB is a broken thing. and in order for it to work it needs to be rethought from the ground up so that its relatively simple and fun to both interact with and be a part of.
-
What you are saying goes directly against JBs own training. speaking as someone who was a defence lawyer and trainer there. there are multiple sections in the handbook which disprove what you just said. Yes technically an appeal but only because the wording makes more sense given that the trial happens after the arrest. The burden of proof is still on the prosecution. both rply and in proccedings. But i dont want to get dragged into minute, and for the love of all things holy i do not want this to turn into another crim vs cop thread so lets focus on fixing JB instead of arguing over its function.

I worked for JB for about 6 months so ill try to shed some light on the major issues you see in both the slowness of cases being finished and in retention/recruitment of staff: 1. Its a job very few players are interested in doing. What do JB members do when they are clocked on? mostly spend their time tabbed out on the gov website, responding to emails, moving cases along if they can, things like that. now even on your busiest day out of court, there wont be enough of that to even fill an hour of game time and even if there was, its mostly boring and tedious paperwork for the sake of realism. Occasionally you will get some sort of Op where a defence lawyer meets with a defendant or a prosecuting attorney will meet with law enforcement but these are rare and usually over email also. you could pay a JB lawyer 10k an hour it wouldn't matter because no amount of money would motivate you to do this. If youve ever thought to yourself "huh i barely see any JB on ever." that's because most of us would just keep up with our gov paperwork without even logging into the game. Now, when all the ducks are lined up and the time has finally come to go to court, JB can be alot of fun! some of the best RP ive seen on the server were tense battles in the court where no one watching actually knew which way the judge would swing. but getting to that point is so hard. because..... 2. Serious Integration problems Why does a case take 11 months to go to trial? Integration or a lack thereof between various departments internal and external. JB has extremely limited access to information from other departments like DOC/MD/PD/SD. so when the judge orders a motion for discovery (basically the judge telling the prosecutor to go get all the evidence to prove the crime was committed.) The lawyer basically gets on his email, writes one off to PD/SD sometimes both. PD/SD have to then dig through their records to find the correct arrest report/case file/ evidence locker etc and get all that information back to the prosecution, usually with an accompanying witness statement that they have to write too. and PD/SD have no motivation to do this quickly. typically discovery can last a week but you can always get that extended and ive seen them last a month. Now, that is just for discovery. there are alot of different motions that can be set up and each one requires an email to be sent, a response to come back and a decision to be made. Players go on leave, players go inactive, sometimes everyone's schedules just dont line up. some cases are extremely complex and the back and forth on every motion can go on for MONTHS. now, in reality, if everyone was sat down in the same room together ic, you could knock that out in an afternoon. but thats not the case. and its the waiting for a reply that kills ya. which leads me to.... 3. JB players have nothing to do. Alright I know there's gonna be alot of "if they have nothing to do why is my case taking so long." see point 2 for that. Its not that JB are overworked or even seriously understaffed to be honest. its because the system that JB use is based on realism. and realistically court cases do take months/years to complete. and again most of that time is just spent waiting on someone else to deliver something to you or for a decision to be made. Theres very little for you to do. When you think of the minute to minute gameplay for each faction, PD/SD chase crims and fight crime, MD saves lives, Mechanics fix cars, DOC look after inmates, what does JB have to do on a minute to minute level? absolutely nothing. once you've checked your emails and replied there is nothing for you to do but wait, and most of the time to log off/play an alt. VERY occasionally you will get a call from DOC about someone asking for a lawyer but honestly that might happen once or twice a week, and even when it does, that requires a defence attorney to be clocked on and DOC being willing to let the interview happen. its moby dick rare. TLDR; So, we have a job where the employees are rarely clocked on because they can do most of their work tabbed out on the government website, a system that has so many checks and balances in place that the wait for replies and scheduling means that cases take months to conclude, and a department that is bored out of their head when physically clocked on. Is there anything worth salvaging in this? ***THE NUCELAR OPTION*** Cut JB down to the absolute bare bones in terms of realism. Lose the facade of realistic criminal cases and paperwork in favour of a more Judge Judy style of kangaroo court that can be organised and executed in a matter of days instead of months. The Pros: -because the wait time is massively reduced, basically every case where the prosecution has received the arrest report is ready to go. we dont go through discovery or supression on the docket, that will now happen in the trial itself. if either side wants something suppressed they object to it on the spot and the decision is made on the spot, not in 7-10 IRL days time. -JB Will become relevant again. most people dont bother with JB anymore because they cant be arsed waiting. with the wait time cut to inside a week, suddenly JB will have an influx of cases, meaning they have more stuff to do in the city, but less paperwork weighing them down. more interaction, less time spent tabbed out on the gov website. -More time in the courts! the actual fun part of JB is during trial. with more things having to be settled in court instead of on the docket trials will become less of a rehearsed back and forth with the occasional objection, and more like "reality" tv courts where theres more back and forth, more gavel banging and more fun. both the lawyers and the judges will have to think more on their feet because of this. The Cons: -JB will end up being less realistic. I think that is unavoidable as the attempt at realism is what has slowed everything down to a snails pace. there will be less docket work and less realistic due process. - Anyone expecting JB to be a source of IC justice should rethink their expectations. JB would become and honestly always should be a source for RP, not an internal reports system. honestly anyone operating as a judge or lawyer should have mammoth amounts of leeway when it comes to making decisions and strategy, and I don't care how realistic it is, I don't care if your case strategy is based on a feverdream fanfic between saul goodman, jerry springer and lionel hutz. so long as its fun the decision shouldn't matter. OK this has been a good hours worth of writing im just gonna leave this here for now.

Disallow AI images of your character on Lifeinvader
Quietthecutie replied to Eliza's topic in Rules Suggestions
-1. "real-world images" The ruleset makes no mention of AI generated ones. frankly the games beginning to show its age and a little AI sprucing seems fine to me. -
Genuinely interested to see how this plays out. itll be nice to see more weapon variety.

Theres your problem right there. this idea that you need to make sure your gang is running 30 deep at all times. and the need to throw new recruits in right away regardless of vetting them, simply because yous are not 30/30. If you lose members, and you have no one suitable and trustworthy to replace them, then you shouldnt replace them. you should be more patient in your recruitment process and be sure before you hit that add button. over time, this will increase the quality of your org until youre getting way fewer reports than you used to. Now, is 2 reports a month the right number? i dont know. but i certainly do know that i respect the concept of holding crim orgs more accountable for their actions. and rewarding gangs for actually following the rules, roleplaying, and not just clapping.
-
No, thats not how we recruit. we recruit on a number of factors. 1. is your standing in the community. we are looking to recruit experenced roleplayers with skin in the game. 2. youll have a sitdown with the group and a discussion about who we are and what we are about. then youll have a turn to tell the group a little bit about yourself. we try to get as many of our members down for this. this step is crucial as it lets you know what we expect going in and sets the tone. 3. after this stage if everyones happy we will share certain information and frequencies with you and you can start doing ops with us. this is a good time to see how you handle yourself in the field both ICly and OOCly and its not about how well you drive or shoot. we are more looking for your RP chops, your ability to listen and talk well and most importantly how you react both ICly and OOCly when things dont go well for you. stage 3 can go on for weeks before we make a decision on if we want you to be a full time member with us. its not a snap decision. its not something we take lightly. That is an extremely condensed summary of how our org recruits. and it works. 0 punishments and barely any kind of report activity because we are careful with who joins us. Now none of this is to say the people we recruit are not already friends with us somehow, be it friend of a friend or their alt being known and friendly to us or something like that. however, if they are not a good fit for the group we would let them know. and if they are unwilling to compromise on their character or their playstyle well, then maybe our org is not for them. this is us being responsible as an org in our recruitment process. this "oh hes a friend of a friend of a friend and he sounds cool" shit would never fly. you should need more than that to join a top tier criminal org. And honestly if thats your entry criteria do you really think its a bad thing you dont have access to top tier imports when other orgs are putting in that effort? like that seems perfectly reasonable to me in terms of you getting out what you put in. and this isnt me stiffling your RP or saying you cant have certain guns, you can. you'll just have to purchase them third party.
-
Settle down Shia LaBeouf Honestly I think the fact Crim orgs will now need to vet their members more closely and raise standards is a good thing. Out with the old technique of accepting anyone who has a few guns and a meta car because hey, we are not capped so we could use the extra hands. When you run a gang, it is an RP commitment, gangs have to write lore and stick to it, this is what gives them their identity. Gangs like LOST and ENVY are great examples of this. both frequently run events or ops that coincide with their lore. this also means that not just anyone is a good fit for their orgs. other gangs i could name frequently ride roughshot with their lore or ignore it altogether once the opening hype has passed doing just enough to get official before forgetting about it altogether. you have to be selective even if that means you are not always running at max cap. Its no surprise that the smaller, more selective gangs are usually the ones with minimal forum reports and even fewer punishments. and i believe if you run a gang you should take some responsibility for who you allow to join you just like a legal faction would. after all your organisation enables a lot of their roleplay, so you do have a duty of care. Now the actual numbers, limits and timeframes are open to debate. do i think 2 punishments in any month is too harsh? not enough? i dont know. i dont think any of us actually know how this is gonna play out just yet. but for now im confident enough with my crim and their gang that im not concerned.
-
I think its not unreasonable that established gangs with a reputation and have been around for a while should start higher on the tiers in 2.0. The punishment system I have mixed feelings on. on one hand, I can see why it would make larger gangs nervous, and i think tier punishments should be on a case by case basis, instead of just a flat 2 punishments in a period of time = demotion. on the other hand, it would force RP standards to be raised, or you lose tiers. no more people eating punishments for the sake of a W.

Make it Non-Rp to randomly search vehicles.
Quietthecutie replied to Jordan's topic in Rules Suggestions
The idea is that by making it clear in the rules, you can point the offender in the direction of that rule, they see they are in the wrong, and walk the RP back. without it being specifically in the rules, players can leave it up to ambiguity. People don't like admitting it when they are wrong, particularly in videogames. without it being a specific mention in the rules, offenders are likely to say they interpret the rules differently, argue its realistic, argue that you are stifling their roleplay, basically make excuses as to why their actions are acceptable and they are more likely to let it go to a report. With it specifically written in, there is no room for this sort of hand wringing, its all there, black and white, clear as crystal and they can see it, know which way a report would go, and walk it back without any staff involvement at all. -

Perhaps an edit to this suggestion to instead show what mechanics are on duty where in the ui i.e "Mechanics on duty :Bennys:0 Bayview:1 LSC:1 so that its no longer a guessing game looking for a mechanic. -

Quietthecutie replied to Jordan's topic in Rules Suggestions
Whilst you are technically not wrong this is the most ham fisted way to resolve the issue. In game reports require an Admin to be available to resolve the issue plus POV/proof to be saved or logs to be checked etc. most of the time admins have better things to do. If no admins about and I have to submit a forum report, that takes time outa my day, an admin then has to spend more time going back and forth with myself and the reported, it takes days to resolve and at the end of it seeing as most snatch and grabs don't exceed 20k I probably don't actually see my stuff returned. so, what to do. let it go and let the troll win or go down this road, take time outa my and an admins day to write a report that wont get my stuff back... Its a lot more elegant if I can just PM the player, tell them I think they broke the rules, and if the rule gives what they did as an example i can point at it and most times they are happy to walk it back. no admin involvement, no drama. but without the example written into the rules it turns into a city hall debate in PMs, which is fun for no one. -
Make it Non-Rp to randomly search vehicles.
Quietthecutie replied to Jordan's topic in Rules Suggestions
I think you may wanna read the suggestion again... this has nothing to do with leaving valuables in your car...its to do with you being there, with your car, and someone totally disregarding that. Its the same shit as someone trying to get into your car as you unlock it to get into it yourself. If someone wishes to be a committed asshole, they can keep this up for an unreasonably long time. -
Allow the ability to disable certain VIP perks
Quietthecutie replied to SquirtleSquad's topic in Game Suggestions
+1. Honestly alot of the VIP perks are pretty superficial. Maybe adding new stronger ones but then having the ability to "select 5" each time you log in or something. So you would have different perks based on what character you logged in as and your planned activities. -

Remove some Vegetation/ trees from the city, frame issues
Quietthecutie replied to Jay_Valentino's topic in Game Suggestions
Im Lowkey ok with the map being cluttered. its supposed to be a city/state, not a trackmania map. the vegetation does sometimes make things harder to see and driving more difficult but it also adds alot of character to the city. -
