thats...actually a really good idea. would effectively third the current suspension time and wouldnt be a script issue then. -
Change the current license suspension system

Youre right, Criminals evade and shoot....they're criminals. I always find it amusing when someone oocly rips into a faction for just playing their role in the city. this is like saying cops are terrible because they pull you for speeding. its not a morality thing, its certainly not an OOC thing and its an invalid argument. -

I just think its daft to have them last an IC 24 years. if its a script issue then the playerbase shouldnt be punished for those limitations. -

Cant, and isnt IC, for reasons I have already given that you're not addressing. also what Calvin just said also bombs the IC suggestion as now its a script issue? didn't know that played a part. -
You're right, rules dictate that once you're being held up taking advantage of the person lowering their weapon to type is a rule break, and that during a rp scenario any time a person starts typing theres a sort of minipause where everyone should wait for that person to send whatever they typed. i understand the rules but if you read what im saying that's not really what i'm worried about here. i'm talking about that initial gun drawing moment, not what follows it. demands being given, not once they have been obeyed. and whilst youre correct in your assessment of the rules, in practicality, speaking as someone who has played on this server for over a year never being able to use voip, they dont work. and i dont wanna spend half my time typing up reports over the minute of when exactly i started typing and the reported coming back with the obvious answer of them not noticing the typing bubble above my head therefore didnt feel obligated to stop. take the scenario i gave to @Astrx how would me stopping to type work exactly? because he isnt going to notice or stop, he will have gained about 20 yards by the time i hit send and could well be out of range.

Damn. That must not have been a fun experience for you. and I am in agreement over a lot of what you say and how you feel. Unfortunately, By the current rules of the server, neither the gangs nor the police did anything wrong. Gang 1 had justification (albeit flimsy) to believe there were items of value within that property. Gang 2 had every reason to roll up and counter, as multiple valuable weapons were visible and by your own reckoning, both parties were deep enough and armed to the teeth to justify their caviller attitude. The police in this instance, were not only justified but obligated to show up, bring an end to the madness and try to figure out what in the blue hell was going on. how exactly they were able to figure out that your house was both active and involved in said shootout is down to their own individual RP which i am not aware of, but at a guess i would say its a combination of shots fired and most likely the gang members from both sides icly protesting/taunting eachother/blabbing to cops whilst being arrested/medically treated that gave them justification to at least perform a sweep. The point I'm trying to get to here is that none of the other players in this situation actually did anything wrong. cops gotta cop, crims gotta crim and the RP will flow. on a roleplay server of any kind, you gotta be able to accept that some days, youll log onto your character and just get perpetually shit on because at the end of the day thats the nature with any multiplayer game where one player wins and another loses. the good news is that in a RP server you can take your Ls and use them. Maybe your character will realise that theres safety in numbers and move into a bigger org, maybe they will adapt and diversify their income streams so they cant be caught so hard next time, maybe they will decide thug life isnt all its cracked up to be and try to go straight or maybe they will brutally snap and go on a one man rampage against those who wronged him. we cant always control what happens to our characters but we can control how it changes and develops them as characters. Really the only boring thing you could do at this point is going back to what you did before with little or no change.

The problem with AHK in this context is that unlike something like mechanic work for example, i may be unable to stand perfectly still not touching my keyboard while giving demands. I might be moving, rolling, taking cover, pressing any number of buttons that would mess with AHK and muddy a verbal text that really needs to be crystal clear and not open to confusion or interpretation for obvious reasons. Example: i pull up to a drug lab and find someone picking plants that i want. they appear unarmed and alone and i decide that in this secluded area the risk vs reward is worth me robbing him. I drive next to him and get out of my car He starts running i pull out my gun and chase after him. Now we are both sprinting, i'm pursuing, i could feasibly just shoot the guy, hes within range. but presently i need to stop and type at him to stop or ill shoot. if i tried using an AHK command to do this what he would read would be something along the lines of "swwwtaaaowwwpaaa aaaorwwwiwwwshootaaa!" See the problem?

Ok so this is one for our verbally challenged homies. If youre like me and dont use voice chat in this server. it can be incredibly fiddily to effectively hold someone up, for reasons lawful or otherwise. the best current solution is to "prime" a holdup by basically typing out something along the lines of "put your hands up, now! or i shoot!" Copy that, delete that, then paste it and send quickly right as youre pulling your weapon out. Its incredibly ineffective and restricts you from acting freely in fluid roleplay, where every second matters and stopping to type something can have dire consequences. My proposal would be to, when you have a weapon out and are aiming with it, be able to use a hotkey (or an addition shift+number shortcut.) that immediately makes your character shout a line like "hands up, right now!" etc. From there, the roleplay would develop exactly the same way it would if that line was delivered verbally. same reasonable time to comply, same escalation rules.

its not tho, Some of these very reasonable arguments cannot be made ICly as they are quite unreasonable from a realistic standpoint. as per previous comments, IRL people would lose their license indefinitely for certain offenses. This does not work however, within a videogame. therefore, its not just an IC issue. -

unbelieveably im kinda down with this. its an actual IC punishment, insted of just hitting a "sorry, you have reached your alloted amount of fun for tonight, please insert 50 cents" situation. and seeing as drivers Ed courses are a real thing in the criminal justice system it kinda fits. speaking purely as this is a game: as an LEO, Part of the tradeoff with being able to get into chases/shootouts with sophisticated weaponry and vehicles with no personal risk attached is the fact you have to do paperwork/cleanup. not to mention you are paid for your trouble win or lose. this is opposed to criminals who do not have to do paperwork or cleanup however when they lose, they lose assets, they lose hard, and they are not guaranteed a paycheck. both sides have downsides and neither will ever be truly happy. that does not mean we shouldnt be open minded when it comes to keeping the balance of the game reasonable. -

Again, i think as much as we try to stay on the side of realism, we also need to concede that this is a videogame. agreed. again, not contesting that license suspension should be a thing, but either the duration of the charge should be lowered or the frequency of it being applied. having a license suspended for almost any crime for what is rply 24 years is not good, neither is this being tacked on to basically every criminal op. one or both of these needs to be looked at. -

massive +1. 1-2 hours starting after sentence is served. Theres almost no criminal op you can commit where LEO will not apply endangerment (they are doing nothing wrong, just following their training.) but with it being such a common charge the punishment of not being able to legally drive for a full IRL day is ludicrous. -
agreed. as a minimum NLR could be rephrased to make specific mention to suicide, as the wording is now, most players seem to interpret NLR to only apply to incidents that involve other players. chases, shootouts, violent interactions in general. as @Bala mentioned, this kind of thing can be interesting and fun if done right and in moderation. as the suggestion is coming from players with characters in MD's CRU, i am guessing its happening more frequently than it should which is diluting the whole experience

Remove The Car Jack From Chop Shops At Labs
Quietthecutie replied to Eliza's topic in Criminal Suggestions
i have actually bumped the chilli one a few times while moving from engine hoist to car lift but that one could be more a skill issue. The really annoying one for me is northlabs/holeinwall. its slap bang in the middle as youre driving in and out and against that backdrop it can be quite hard to see. it can also get in the way when youre pushing back after taking the engine out. -
Remove The Car Jack From Chop Shops At Labs
Quietthecutie replied to Eliza's topic in Criminal Suggestions
It dosent really work that way, a well organised chop crew will organise and divide labour over pushing cars, chopping parts, removing engines, there's a system but everything revolves around that car lift. because the small jack is fixed to the ground and cannot be maneuvered it just makes things awkward it might as well be a concrete pillar. and ultimately if you want to full chop, every car will need to go through the large jack anyways. -
i hope youre kidding.

+1 for the idea. but it will never happen. This is a business, the idea of letting people recycle 25-50% of the money they spend on the server into other things would hit the bottom line of the server. Itll never happen and to be honest i dont blame them.

Prison cap capping and not capping at 3 hours

Stop the cap! -
This has already been suggested. some ideas were floated around but sadly due to the limitations of RAGE we cannot mechanically hide guns on a persons body. therefore the call was made to not do what youre suggesting. if we tried to do this only scriptly it causes too many metagaming problems. there are ways to hide your guns in the game that people use (car storage/bags.)

This is assuming that said characters motivations are purely for the gain of money/material goods. a lot of this wouldnt apply to anarchists, political protesters, basically anyone with a motivation besides money. so long as these motivations are properly developed in prior roleplay, shouldnt be a problem.

Welcome to our weird little world! The best and most interesting way to find out about our city is to simply jump in and start experiencing it! this will allow you to make those in character interactions yourself, form your own friend groups and develop your character. There is an FAQ and server guide section on the forums that has a wealth of information on everything from server mechanics to fun RP ideas. I highly recommend you take a look, ill list a few examples below: Youll notice that while guides like these give you an overview of how roleplay works and the mechanics of the server, they are pretty light on specifics of how to go about anything. The reason for this is that we encourage players to "find out IC." meaning log on, explore the city, talk to people, and ask questions there. remember that your interactions should be "in character." so you shouldnt be saying things like "oh yeah i just found this server. still trying to figure out how it works" but saying something like "oh im new in the city, dont really know where to start.." you should only talk out of character as a last resort, say, if you are bugged or something. you can use the /b command to type OOCly. all voice chat has to also be IC. Once again, welcome to the community x
