Public RP Appreciation on Discord and Forums

Recommended Posts

Posted

There is so much negativity on the forums, this constant negative attitude that reinforces an sad a poor rp environment.

I personally see so much interesting and great RP from members of this server, and a place to praise that, I feel would positively benefit this community.

Just a small section of the forums or discord to name a character in the server and show appreciation for the hard work they put into RP could not only show deserved praise for RP'ers who really put in that effort but also encourage more interesting RP for the whole community.

This is a fantastic idea.

It wont get as much traction as others, as it isn't about immediate gratification or change. but it would be a great way to reward/recognise members of the community who ultimately, are the ones who make the server fun.

I could and would nominate a ton of players, across multiple characters, who oftentimes make my day when I interact with them. I wish the /goodrp command had more power (as it doesn't seem to have much now.) but perhaps this suggestion could change that. If they were to suddenly decide to sstop playing, or went to another server, like so many people with less skin in the game do, they would be sorely missed and the server would feel it.

We should look for more ways to encourage positive activity in the server, instead of just more ways to punish poor activity or generate the same old conflicts.

If this gets implemented there are pros and cons to this (which could be either or)

Pros or Cons:

  1. More forgiving in forum reports
  2. Have IC favoritism towards someone who gave you good feedback (Metagaming)
  3. There would be a lot of love that would be spread around (Spam)

I appreciate the good /me's and /do's, but I don't want to be given any IC love from another person/faction because of my goodwilling OOC love-filled forum post. Because I wouldn't want to do it either. Relationships can change in an instant in the server.

If any staff member/-s are ready to be solely responsible for reviewing good feedback about players/factions and give them goodie points, then that is a lot more paperwork, because there should be a point in it, right?

How do we reward people for good RP? Maybe if everything else is not good IMO, then maybe gift some credits for Credit shop?

Sitting in forums and only checking the negative posts which also have a "HOT" flair will only make you think everything is negative when in reality is actually quite positive in game.

Good RP should be the standard not something to reward someone for

Bad RP should be punished - which is already in place

If you appreciate someone's RP that much, Discord DM will do the job.

You could even make a funny compilation video of someone or a group of people making your day and post it in the Videos & Screenshots section. It will certainly mask away any other negativity.

If you love and appreciate a certain faction's RP, there are Google Forms made for this for every Faction to make a positive feedback on any other factions.

IMO I also appreciate someone and sometimes change my RP towards them just because of how much I like the person OOC, but that is borderline metagaming, so I try to get my character to like their character and become friends IC as well.

EDIT:
P.S. To encourage good RP in the server, people all around each other should do good RP. Crowd behaviour you know

I would love to shout out some crims and Leo’s that really make the difference in the server with great interactions and take the negativity away from the reports section.

can we have a section for us to share GOOD clips and give shout outs to people?

It may start to sway some of the mindset and help the non PVPers find good people to RP with?

Posting any good RP interactions in the relevant faction RP showcase area of the forums should be encouraged. It would be nice to see more on those posts rather than just a bunch of text. Videos or pictures are great to see to!

Hey! Not trying to take away from the original suggestion. Just wanted to also mention that you can give feedback to factions directly if you’ve had a good experience or want to shout someone out. Here are a few links in case anyone’s interested:

+1 on all this, especially Eliza's links.

I would also encourage people, as long as they can follow the meta and mixing rules, to feel free to let that player know if you enjoy their roleplay. I personally love to tell people when I like their RP. I fangirl over good RPers in the server!

There is a similar suggestion below but I think it needs to be addressed again.

  • Who is the suggestion for?
    - New players and constant players alike
  • Why is the suggestion being made?
    - I think morale on the server can be low sometimes, and especially new players who don't get to see intense roleplay off the bat. This will show them that there are a variety of good roleplay moments that happen day to day, and will make the community feel good by seeing a lot of it out there.

  • What are the pros and/or cons of the suggestion?

Pros:

-Increases the chance of solid rp by giving people public acknowledgement of creating strong, fun, and inspiring roleplay scenarios

-Shows new players the quality of RP happening on the server from day to day

-Makes returning players who constantly bring good rp to the server feel good and rewarded for providing good rp

-Boosts morale on the server as you always here about the negative rp and reports, but never about the good rp that are driving server life and activity.

Cons

-Could be a spammy channel

-May see some players get glazed by their friends

  • How will this affect players on ECLIPSE Roleplay?                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 -I believe it will increase the likeliness of seeing good, strong RP, and take away some of the win/loss rp mentality we see from many players, especially on the crim side of life.

  • How should the suggestion be implemented?
    - I believe that it would be beneficial to make a discord channel under general called #rp-appreciation that should have a format similar to the suggestion listed below. It should include the character name, their discord ID, the date, why you appreciated their RP. There could also be the option to include a link to a clip from the rp.

and lets face it, new players are more likely to check the discord. Please +1 this if you think it's a good idea!

I could see morale benefit of having maybe a discord channel with a basic format template like #crash-reports where you can glaze some good roleplay e.g.

Quote

Your name: Jeff Goldbloom
Who you want to praise: Big Jimbo from Bennys
Reason: This person used sound effects and fully roleplayed actually interesting things when i took my faggio in to be repaired after I ran over a squirrel

It'll be a bit spammy but could serve as a bit of a benchmark especially when hiring people to factions to quickly search someones name to see if anyone has anything positive to say about them that's worth considering as well as just giving people motivation and an ego boost for playing something a bit out of the norm.

I think the main benefit would be to newer people checking out the server and being able to see more of the good things at a glance, or even better giving people ideas on new things they can do.

Would require minor amounts of moderation but nothing too complex, so +1

Just wanted to way in on this.  (And let me be clear! I understand what your saying and appreciate your opinion... This is not meant to be argumenative, just to debate).

Good RP should be rewarded, especially if you want it to be the norm. It's Positive Reinforcement which psychology shows us is vastly important to keeping a behaviour that way.

Just because we expect good rp doesn't mean that that is going to come. And what is expected really, is neutral RP with no rule breaks, GOOD RP is strong character development and interesting scenarios. People who aren't afraid to lose money or belongings for the sake of good rp. People who aren't in a win/lose mindset but unfortunately, that is the way a lot of people are. Is that bad rp? No! People put time and effort and want to keep what they worked for...

but that's the difference between RP, and GREAT RP.

A great RPer understands that fun scenarios doesn't mean winning, it means making interesting stuff happens! Who cares if you won a gun fight. Is that what you remember? No! It's why that gun fight happened. It's that dude who decided to steal a cab and take out the parts infront of the cab driver becuase he was homeless and needed cash! It's that guy who is speaking in an old man voice who is falling over because his bones hurt even if it means he caught by the police.

Interesting characters, interesting scenarios... that breeds good rp. That should be rewarded! And honestly, an RP appreciation form, and hell, a couple credits for people who get it constantly from a wide variety of people never hurts!

George Vern - Honestly my favourite cop to RP with in the past and it's a shame not to see him around anymore, I did some meaningful ldo RP and other forms of RP, he was creative and resourceful and for that he deserves a shout

Jeff Cooper - speaking of ldo RP, I haven't actually known him very long but I spray painted some walls in doc, and luckily for him, joselynn knows me ooc and we set up some ldo RP that honestly whilst it's not much, it is really fun to just do that shit

Solomon Cobb - tbh I think we all know why, his constant contributions to the media page of ecrp, entertaining content and dedication to his character shouldn't go unnoticed

Wilbur Figglebottom - I'm sure some people might see him as a pain in the ass or annoying, but I can't help but realise he absolutely uses the right amount of /me and /dos in a variety of situations clearly showing dedication to actually playing for the sake of RP

Dale Ashcroft - haven't seen the guy lately :C but he is a great detective, likeable and absolutely deserves to be on the list for keeping a positive experience for other players he interacts with

Diesel 'Gator' Bates - I miss him :C such a fan guy to RP with, you wouldn't think the man wasn't a hillbilly American ooc with how well he played gator, sticking to the accent and character building.

Willy Bostigan & Puddle Bates - both characters I always had fun playing with, especially puddle (gators brother) who would get him into stupidly hilarious shenanigans, I still don't appreciate being called "zoo-man" 😠 lol

Aki Kurokawa & Joselynn Trejos (plus the other 50 characters she owns) - call me biased as this server has allowed me to become close friends with her but she clearly deserves the attention. she has made multiple characters dedicating each one a specific role whom of which I've always enjoyed interacting with, clearly she is here to spread a positive light to the community and for that she will have my respect.

Billy The Drunk (haven't had enough interaction with Tim Sutton) - a hilarious character dedicated to being stupidly drunk all the time. The effort into using that voice and behaving like a silly drunk is a refreshing character to have in an RP server.

Poppy Popov - she scares me, that cutesy doll like childlike innocent cannibal serial killer is a good character and the person behind Poppy and her alts always seemed to care for a good RP character

Roman Cassidy - the absolute commitment to playing his character is something I always loved and I had fun interacting with his goofy character.

There are a ton more people I can add here honestly but imma leave it for now as it is like 5am for me as I'm typing this completely on a whim.

I wanna extend a huge thanks to Liam Binnie, Deano Jackson and Sean LeBlanc wherever the prior 2 may be alongside the rest of LSC for the fun times we had during my very legal time working there 😛

Plus the Souls of course.

This includes some of the above such as aki, willy and gator. Plus Jesse Saint, Ronny Miguel, Rob Reaper, Arthur Green, Jeffe Villanueva, Winston Yin and the rest of you lovely folk. whilst not being my 1st gang technically, allowed me to grow my character, and my presence within the gang and the server as a whole

The Architects, Richie Reed and Steve Reed for being my 1st buddy's in the server (Richie reintroducing me early 2024 to ecrp after I joined and left in 2021 :P) and showing me the ropes of criminal RP.

If I know you and I didn't mention you, don't get upset at me please, I just typed as I thought, I couldn't come up with every single name in the span of half an hour

Lastly about Ace Aethernite, I apologise to people who had shit experiences with me rply, I have honestly tried to do as best as I can, sometimes with my ADHD ridden brain I will start staring into space and forget I'm rply on the ground in cuffs or sum shit, I have often times corrected my mistakes so thanks to those who were patient with me. Additionally I have always tried to make things fair such as when a cop experiences a glitch in game and wants to continue a chase whilst in most cases criminals don't get the benefit of voiding a glitch (from what I've seen) I will go back to a spot where we can continue a chase. I've always tried using non meta cars to create more fun evasions for me and the cops.

Whilst this server sure ain't perfect, it's had it's fun moments for sure, I've seen some positive change, and some negatives. I believe for the server to truly grow, it needs to suck up and bite some bullets and really drastically change things. I believe a good start is the PvP aspect of the server which has created the toxic environment the server has become. That's me for now. Thanks :3

i mean hey, if we're doing this, lets do it. as mostly playing GND these days, I typically only interact with criminal players when they get caught, so the interactions are already starting out from a negative point for most people...

David Theangel is one of my favorite criminal players as law enforcement. The dedication of day in and day out doing what he does is something to respect.

Todd Baguley is an absolute goofball and i mean that in the best way possible. I feel like every integration with him ive had is a positive one in my books. He so perfectly represents just the funny shit that you see on LivePD or Cops. lol

Thank you guys for sharing. If we're gonna make this happen, I guess I'll name a few.

Mason Ross/Randy Lee, you make the dullest patrols and shifts fun, and it's just a blast roleplaying with you and seeing your characters' progress.

Clay Thompson/Ronnie Bathsheba, honestly, I just miss RPing with you as much as I used to. Each scenario was fun, especially with Ronnie, and I still remember the surprise when I found out you were the same person.

Margaret and Marjorie Evans, as much as they are not on the server as much anymore, I loved the RP I had with them, and doing the bus pass bandits was some of my best time on Eclipse.

Julia Whitehorse/Sebastian Knight, I love the bits of silly RP you bring to the server, makes the boring bits fun.

Hope Kant, I've RP'd with you for the past few years with JB, and it has been great, both IC and OOC. She is carrying the faction, and she deserves all the best that comes from it.

Aki Kurokawa and the Souls, every RP situation I've been in, even the losses, has been fun. I've had great interactions with a lot of them IC and OOC, and it's always been great.

Amie Koal, I've RP'd with you a bunch over the last few years, and it's been so fun, just the variety that you bring to the server with each of your characters is amazing, and I would love to see you keep doing what you're doing.

I'll probably add a bunch later, but these are just some I thought of now.
