Helicopters are overused 100%, i dont think having Polmavs up patrolling is a bad thing, i think the misuse comes from PD high command and SD that use the buzzard gunship 24/7 with MK2 guns with no recoil and marksman rifles that 2 shot people. THAT is completely unrealistic and overused to patrol in.

I spoke with someone in PD HC about it, PD/SD should realistically use Polmavs, no gunners on the side, and buzzards could only be used to pre-planned raids and such as it is genuinely a MILITARY aircraft, just de-weaponized. This was really brought up the other night when 2 people got demands from a low flying buzzard with snipers on each side, for dragging an ATM... I brought up the thing about going back to older things with helis because it is, hate to say, a very weighted thing.

I said pre-planned things buzzards can come out, like raids, etc, but I dont remember the last time a polmav was used in a chase, its always a buzzard with a gunner. Idk what others think about it. You could make a suggestion like you have and would get 50 upvotes on it, but thats a server suggestion not a PD/SD suggestion. idk if I make any valid points but thats my 2 cents nobody asked for

so to be clear, your issue is that the buzzard is used and you can fire from it with marksman rifles...

From an SD perspective at least, I can only recall one time ive been present where a shot has been fired from a helicopter during a situation. said situation was a massive gang shootout where LEOs were coming under heavy fire, in which case fire from a Helicopter is totally reasonable given the escalation. aside from that. our Helis usually dont even have a camera operator, never mind marksmen... so i really dont understand your perspective. that said i cant speak for PD.

To be clear again in SD, there are mammoth rules and checks in place to ensure only reasonable force is applied and nothing more but if you shoot at an LEO with automatic weapons, you should expect everything short of tanks being thrown at you, because thats the reasonable and expected response from law enforcement.

Who's abusing it? Give me some names and the problem will be solved today.

My thoughts are that police shouldn’t be using a military helicopter for normal patrols and should only be used for pre-planned operations or DIRE situations - I.E LEO taken hostage, prison riots, large scale shootouts.

I don’t have a problem with Helis in general, when I was in PD/SD I loved to fly them and even though yeah you miss the ground stuff, it’s still a new element. With the new camera/thermal thing, that’s on IRL helicopters, I don’t think that’s a problem at all.

And as a response to this if I had names I would, hard to tell who’s who when you’re 400 feet above the ground.. I’ve already spoken with Sanchez and raised that from PDs side

I feel like the argument about helicopters being used with riflemen on the side and comparing that to Afghanistan or another war-torn country kinda falls apart when you take into account the fact that the shootouts they are deployed in are also Afghanistan level clusterfucks such as the rockford plaza insurgent incident from last week.

edit: Just to be clear, I'm all for gangs using force as they see necessary and believe it should be managed/handled in an in-character manner by law enforcement. I'm just making the parallel to make sure there are no double standards. If any gang wants to rock up deep and attempt a wipe on law enforcement then all brakes will be cut and they should be met with an unstoppable force in the same in-character manner.

Would you hear a plane above 1500ft? No, you wouldnt.

Aircraft engineer here. I can confirm you can hear a plane up to 25,000 ft. not that I disagree with you.

Also rendering wise, multiple times I've heard helicopters, but i NEVER see them. even when i have a spotlight on me, I can't see the copter. dunno what can be done about it

This depends on your Distance Scaling. Objects render in less detail when further away, with RAGE, this introduces a fair bit of Desync with actually seeing vehicles.

I'll check this on my settings! thank you!

LEO usage of their airship is currently not something we hold interest in creating a server rule for; this is something that is currently solely established by the factions themselves via deployment policy and LFM (Legal Faction Management) who oversees these factions from an OOC management perspective.

If you hold serious concerns about how legal factions such as the LSPD, LSSD, etc utilize their vehicles, the best avenue would be to contact a member of the faction's leadership/command whether it be an attempt through a Discord private message or via an OOC Roleplay Standard Report (OOC IA) to raise the issue.
