Insane Prison Fines ~ Removing Auto Tickets For Speeding

Recommended Posts

Hello, I'll be suggesting to lower the price of prison fines significantly, as I've recently been wiped completely of my characters assets not once, but twice.

As it stands, the prison fines seem to be way too much, and the dumb automatic ticketing system doesn't make it any better. That's what we have cops for, we don't need an automated script to hand out tickets when we have a ENTIRE PD force!

I just got fined $48,000 and went to jail for 100 minutes.  The fines are ridiculous, I'm a new player and this is just dumb.

What are your thoughts?

Maybe... don't do crimes and don't speed? I work as a taxi driver and have to drive around town everytime I'm on duty. I'm not complaining about speeding tickets cause I keep my speed down. Since I drive so often, I don't use the GPS routes often times since although it does show me the shortest distance route, I can go much faster if I took that highway instead. I think thinking like this comes from experience instead of just speeding on regular roads and complaining when you get ticketed.

On my criminal character once I lost bigtime a bag full of drugs was lost cause I was stopped by a cop who had a warrant in to arrest me for speeding. I lost my gun license and I was heavily fined. I'm not complaining, since I made the choice to be a criminal on that character, and since jail time is only a few hours IRL where in reality I would've been in for a couple years I think the fines make sense to be there.

TL,DR: Don't do crimes if you can afford to pay for it. As a new player I'd recommend trying civilian RP till you get the hang of things. Keep your speed down, its not like it takes too long. Smarter route choices.

The prison system and the fines that come with it are there for a reason. If you don’t want to be punished and have to pay money/do time, either become a law abiding citizen or stop getting caught.

Especially as a new player, you should be spending your time building connections and networking.

The automatic ticketing systems are mostly setup at NCZs, which represent heavily guarded areas. Realistically, you wouldn’t be able to go insane speeds through a these areas. Set your cruise control and don’t go over the limit.

Funny because in a post about the same thing you wanted the speeding tickets gone, now all of a sudden your opinion has changed, lol. But if you really think OOCly enforcing something ICly is useful, then that is quite the laugh.

I've already built more than enough connections and done enough networking, I know what I'm talking about. These fines aren't so bizare in real life. I shouldn't be forced to roleplay legal because I'm going to pretty much be punished OOCly if caught.

Nobody is forcing you to play legal. Nobody is forcing you to commit crimes either. If you don’t like spending money on fines... maybe you should find a way to stop getting the fines?

If fines are cheaper than they are now, there would be no repercussions for being a criminal character. It’s the choice you made when you started roleplaying that character. The penal code is public information, you should know the consequences of your actions.

What is punishing you OOCly? The fines are only in IC currency. Noone is taking your IRL money.

Yeah I made a post about speeding tickets once, I said to stop putting out reckless when caught by cameras. I think they should be reserved for actual PD units as they have the capability as people to look at a scenario and judge accordingly. A good example would be when I was going 180kmph in a DCC Super Diamond and a cop pulled me over. I wasn't even given a ticket let alone a warrant because I was carrying someone to the hospital.

I still think regular fines for speeding and especially crimes should stay.

When I spend 4 days making 50k and get raped on prison fines thats an ooc punishment.

PD will always be smaller than the amount of gangs, non-gang criminals, and civilians. There is no way they can regulate every last citizen for driving violations let alone catch them. Why wouldn't they invest in speeding cameras to help them?

No its a perfectly IC punishment since you chose to do the crimes. If you're admin jailed for something you did OOCly then that would be an OOC punishment.

Also, I believe this is the thread you're referring to that I made in August:

Notice I highlighted reckless being given out by cameras only. I'm down for the tickets since speeding is a choice.

It seems to me that the fines are in position to help keep our inflated economy under control, but there isn't a consideration for players that don't have dispensable income.

I think having some kind of fine modifier, that works on a similar basis to the income tax when picking up your salary would be better.

Personally, i've never liked the idea of giving someone a fine and also jail time, it should be one or another. I say this as a cop.

"Maybe don't do crimes and don't speed?" -- From a law enforcement standpoint, that's no helpful solution, you want to encourage criminals to commit crime smarter yes, but you don't want to encourage them not to commit crime at all.

I'm pretty sure most people don't read the penal code to find out how much the fines are so they only find out a) that they are getting fined and b) what the fine is when they've been placed in prison already.

You don't just lose the money that you are fined, you lose the money that you could potentially be out there earning when you are locked up.

New players aren't looking to build connections or to network, they're looking to make money. They can't do it legit because they'll get run over by the gangs so they end up having to turn to crime themselves, then they end up with a problem like the OP.

The only speed camera that should be in the server is the one at the bank and that is because there is a high concentration of people/vehicles there where cars driving out of control becomes a potential cluster-fuck.

The one at Pillbox for example is some hokey BS. You have to slow down quite a bit before going under the bridge so you don't set the camera off.

-1 The spots for speed cameras are very easy to memorise, not only that they are only place in areas like the Bank to prevent people from speeding like maniacs, which is what happened before the cameras were added.

People still speed there now, it hasn't fixed the problem. It also mixes because it gives you IC consequences for OOC actions.

Why would they be run over by gangs for doing it legit? When I was a new player I grinded the postal job till I could buy an apartment for 130K. Even though its somewhat boring, I still get to see some action now and again while driving around.

Some factions start accepting people from 3000 XP (the mechanic shops to name). If anything, its much MUCH more easier to make money legit than illegaly as you literally get paid to talk to people and actually roleplay (a plus imo as grinding druglabs aren't my thing, its just you making things from the script and then selling to a script. The only roleplay you'll get are those 'hands hands'). Its not that people that want to make money are forced to do crimes, its that they want to do crimes. If their only motivation was money they would've just gotten an actual faction job.

Why? Boredom is a massive motivator. There is not only a lack of support for the criminals, there is also a lack of support for civilian roleplay.

Yeah, gonna have to give this a -1. Whilst it sucks hard to get a speeding ticket, or even worse to get arrested, its all part of the RP experience. My illegal character got arrested when I he was pretty low on cash. All I had to my name was a car worth 20k, a mask and an illegal firearm. Now I can't get any sort of job in Law Enforcement, I'm known to police and I have prior, but its all part of the RP, you have to own your choices.

Don't want to get fined for speeding?  Don't speed where the cameras are.  Or drive the speed limit and avoid police attention altogether.

The cameras were added not because police can't hand out enough charges, but because people were driving like total fools and killing people in NCZs.  The automatic fines are supposed to cut down on that.

ima be straightforward on this. as someone with very low cash a $40,000 fine would totally ruin me. possibly never being able to recover if im being honest however. I totally agree about the massive fines because it prevents people going and doing crimes left and right. if it wasn't such a $ risk if im being honest my character would defiantly be doing higher risk crimes instead of petty stuff.
