Maximum cops in a chase depending on activity.

8 units of police is NOT necessary for a guy with a lockpick and a screwdriver that stole a car. There should be a limit of cops chasing depending on the crimes and the number of people involved.

for example :

  • 3 cops for a stolen car

  • 4 cops for an ATM robbery

  • 5 cops for a store or gas station robbery

  • 7 cops + chopper for a bank robbery / big heist

Of course not these exact numbers but something like this.

This way the response still makes sense, but it’s not ridiculous when the crime is something small. It also helps so not all the units are wasted chasing one guy, while another big crime like a bank robbery is happening somewhere else. Also preserves the fun and the willingness of solos to consider trying out crimes. Police already have the upper hand with faster and better handling cars which makes a chase that big ( 7 cops) impossible to lose.

Would have to go both ways, limiting the maximum number of criminals involved in a situation as well, it would be unreasonable to expect law enforcement OOC response limitations and have 20 people packed inside building to jump the limited allowed response.

Totally agree though, there should be some form of scaling for law enforcement response. we have nine TAC channels available to each department, we should be able to respond to more than one situation at a time. I've been involved in so many pursuits that just end up as pure chaos from LEO side, especially when its a JTAC pursuit.

I had a conversation with another player the other night, were maybe there could be a severity scaling system, that certain situations start out with a maximum number of units responding, but can escalate and request additional units to respond. This would... add complication to how law enforcement actively work, but, i could see a potential solution being that the current LEO shift supervisor acts more as dispatch, controlling who's responding to what. obviously this would be a massive change in culture and playstyle for law enforcement players, but, it could be interesting to see if it would work out.

I don't think there needs to be hard limits, but I feel there should be some sort of resource management.

It's scalable, but also have appropriate response. If you have a bank robbery with a hostage or an officer down? Maybe a call to pile on. If it's one guy towing an ATM, maybe doesn't need 8 Units + Air-1 following.

Also will help calls from being missed or dropped. I know at EMS Supervisors will assign units calls and make sure we are covering if things get hectic.

I can't speak for PD because I'm not in PD, but SD does try to manage the amount of units at a scene or in a chase, unless it's a huge scene like a mass shootout

As stated multiple times, there would have to be a cap on criminal response too. Such as a rule of 6, where LEO's would have a smaller increase on the response of criminals - i.e 6 criminal/8 cops.

I have advocated for a rule of 6, unfortunately, I just believe we are too far gone for an update such as this to be implemented along with not having the correct player base for it.

This does not mean I wouldn't like for it to be implemented, as this would be a healthy change in my opinion.

Personally one of the reasons I play Eclipse over other servers is our lack of limit on activities. I think this kind of limit adds on an unnecessary level of bureaucracy and "checks" when responding to a situation and being immensely unnatural.

Admittedly, I believe an over-reaction from police comes down to boredom at times. If LEO has twenty units who have seen maybe one pursuit in the last hour, and you rob a bank, is it really fair for half of them to just ignore the situation and not get the fun they seek when logging onto what is at the end of the day, a video game?

Measures are taken at times from supervisors to reduce units or cut them from certain scenarios, especially when a routine traffic stop gets a large amount of units during these "slumps" in activity.

@AtlasOLimboif we're talking about "the fun they seek" then jail times should be lowered can't expect people to actually crim and engage in police chases when they know they'll be in jail doing nothing for 2+ hours, which can't be done while disconnected too, so you need to actually stay there. That's why they see ONE pursuit in the last hour because no one wants to get chased by 6 cops.

This is a nonstarter. Reducing jail time has been done multiple times in the server. When I was playing during peak COVID as a crim, I had double digit hour sentences on multiple occasion where there was NO offline reduction, as there is now, or conversion of stamps for any meaningful time reduction. I still had fun. 🙂

Back then vs now is different. Yes you may have had fun then but now doc is legit empty. No guards or other inmates unless you are very lucky and even then guards ignore you most the time.

So the solution is reducing sentences to literally nothing?
