NinerTwoGolf Posted November 15, 2025 Report Posted November 15, 2025 (edited) Fishing is here! And for the most part, it's fun. Few things here and there that are a little wonky but I'd say it definitely hits more than it misses. While enjoying the fishing, chatting, and teaching others the Art of the Pisces @kat, @Ms.Somebody , and I had a conversation that I think would be worth suggesting here. Ms.Somebody brought up that when fishing was first hinted at a year ago, there was talks of being allowed to rent larger and larger boats. Kat and I agreed, but scrubbing through the forums and Discord, I can't seem to find that post. Maybe someone else can find it, as my Search-Fu is failing me. The conversation branched, and Kat and I both agreed that while boat renting might have been scrapped. It would be nice to see some ocean fishing spots. Kat pointed out how boats are pretty under-utilized in the city, myself commenting I hadn't taken mine out since the bridge was built to Cayo. So here is my idea, have some Sea Fishing areas. Places where individuals with boats can pull up, drop anchor, and fish until the holds are full and head back to off-load. I think if you were to buff the catch rate a little on the location, along with the usual buffs for group size, time of day, and weather, it would be a good option for those who want to take the time to prepare and pack for a long fishing trip. The sunken sea lab on the west coast springs to mind, as well as any of the ship or aircraft wreckage that dots the coast. Maybe go a step further where the farther the location is from the docks, the better the buffs it has to incentivize those locations. Edited November 15, 2025 by NinerTwoGolf 3
Ms.Somebody Posted November 15, 2025 Report Posted November 15, 2025 +1 To this, it’s a fantastic idea. What they did with fishing was great already, but it can always be even better. Boats are under utilized on the server already, and with the bridge to Cayo update, they’re practically useless. Putting boosted fishing spots (either shorter time between catches, boosted values, or both) out in the ocean would get people to use them again, and keep the boat dealers and boat gas stations alive. Maybe even introduce fish that can only be caught in those sea areas to incentivize players to invest in boats to go out into the ocean to try and catch those fish. 2

kat Posted November 15, 2025 Report Posted November 15, 2025 +1 would love to see more people utilizing boats with the big fishing update 2

Daxu Posted November 17, 2025 Report Posted November 17, 2025 Major +1. Would be crazy to see a system like labs where the hotpots rotate based on player engagement (overfishing the area would cause it to not be as lucrative and a new spot would be identified). This would keep players dynamically moving across the map but also stay together in groups to engage with one another. We could integrate it like helicopters, where in a boat you can see other vessels and the hotpot in the ocean (like the area-of-interest big circles). Also would be cool pirate potential.
Bala Posted November 17, 2025 Report Posted November 17, 2025 I strongly disagree and honestly, I won't over-elaborate like i normally do. We simply don't have enough players for everyone going off to their own little corners of the map. The past two days, with like 8-15 people fishing on the pier at a time, has felt actually pretty good. It gives people who normally wouldn't be able to interact for whatever reason, be it geographical or whatever and given that we have the player base we have, it's exactly what the server needs. I don't even really like the fact there are so many fishing spots around because to me, it sort of defeats the purpose. We're closer to having 30 players in the server than 300 and we need to make the best of that. Fishing is a great example. Where an Assistant Chief, a Assistant Governor, the Waterfelons and a New Player can all peacefully interact.

There is actually a depletion system in place. If you use the U menu you get the 'Fishing Zone Info' Where you can see the current fish stock, what fish you can catch, what bonuses you can get, etc. Currently, both the the Del Perro and Paleto Pier don't deplete so I haven't really seen people at others spots. Also haven't investigated enough to see if other spots have different types of fish, I've only ever seen Bass, Salmon, and Tuna. Haven't had the chance to really deep dive this week.

I think you’re overthinking this Bala, we’re not asking for the ability to fish all over the ocean, we’re asking for the fishing spots like we have now on the GPS to be added to a few ocean areas, 2-3 would be the ideal number. There is nothing stopping individual people all from converging on an area in their own boats and fishing off of those and conversing within the area with each other their boats dotted all over the ocean, or going on a friends marquis and fishing off of that. We may as well get rid of boats entirely since there is nothing we can do with them that is unique to them anymore if that is your opinion.
Ritchie Stones Posted November 18, 2025 Report Posted November 18, 2025 hmmm. the idea sounds great, but there is in paleto maybe 10 to 15 people fishing, way less than i expected this update would bring, 4 years ago it was 100-150 people, lets not spread even more or over complicate, the idea from its core sound very promising, but it already very slim in people actualy fishing atm, i made a suggestion on lures, making a blib on the map to have better fish faster, heavy'er, to also lure people to a spot hoping to revive the pier the way it once was, i am starting to get some real homesick feelings after this update

It was closer to the number of people we have now in paleto fishing at that pier alone, if not 1-2% higher. People concentrated on the pier because it was really the only place people could go and not have to worry about being NRP robbed back then. We have way more people fishing now than we did back then, but they are spread out and going to different places to find different and more valuable fish. Adding fishing spots in the ocean won’t change anything except people buying boats, and going out to fish either alone, with their friends or just to see who is out there. Putting fishing spots in the ocean would also benefit criminals and promote roleplay, as out in the ocean, if you’re all alone there is a chance you could get boarded by someone else and be robbed out there due to the recent change in the rules, it is a great boon to the criminal side of the server as much as it would be to the civ side.

The way the current fishing system works it splits up the fishing population anyway because different places provide different XP different fish so it is spread out the way it is.. I think putting in a limited zone where people could deep sea fish so they're not spread out in every single corner of the world Something like around the pier and on a boat you get a little bit more XP or something would be better 1

Something like fishing doesnt have to be overcomplicated. Get people together and get people talking, this might be good for the forums to

I think putting in a limited zone where people could deep sea fish so they're not spread out in every single corner of the world Something like around the pier and on a boat you get a little bit more XP or something would be better It's a running theme unfortunately but we often seem to be out of sync with what would benefit the player base. I said this privately to Paulius but the server NEEDS hotspots. By hotspots, I mean a location that any player can go to, whether they are new, old, cop, crim, civ, eu, us, aus.. and find people to interact with. The server NEEDS that hot spot more than it needs an expansive fishing job. Consider that the fishing pier got big, because of that social element and it was literally just being to fish one fish, with no bait or other items fishable. The Pier was popping. Deep Sea Fishing would be great, if we could spare the people. But we can't. Groups of 3-4 people fishing other players does nothing for anyone outside of those 3-4 people. If you want to 'deep sea' fish, then just do it along Del Perro beach if you have to, in view of the Pier. But the fishing on the Del Perro Pier WITH a bunch of people should be incentivised to the point where it is people's preference. Any thing else solves absolutely nothing. 1
Ranger Posted November 21, 2025 Report Posted November 21, 2025 After speaking with a developer regarding this suggestion, it was decided that at this time the current zones will remain. This may change in the future, but for now, fishing zones in the water will not be created. 1 1
