k0ma Posted July 30, 2025 Report Posted July 30, 2025 Hey everyone, Just wanted to bring something up that's been bothering me since the day I joined the server — mainly during my interactions mainly with PD, but also DOC and even crims. It's the constant use of the almighty "/do able?" I’ve also heard from older members that back in the day people used to constantly use "/do s?", which honestly isn’t any better or worse than “able?”, and apparently staff had to step in and address it. So here we are again. Now I bet everyone reading this post has seen it, and it happens every single time. Whether I'm cuffed and surrounded, sitting in the back of a cruiser or even when I'm already inside DOC locked in with no where out, I still see them use "/do able?" and they actually wait for a response and jump in "/b" asking me to respond to it. It just doesn't make sense to use it in some situations but it feels like people are just programmed to use it. It comes off really robotic and makes police RP feel super repetitive after a while. Now I totally understand that they're trying to avoid PG and keep the RP fair with this, and I fully support that. Let's be real: if the person you’re searching actually thinks they have a legit way to resist or escape, they can still RP that anyway, even if you didn’t type /do able?. The scene would just continue from there, and both sides can respond accordingly. I'm not saying it should be removed completely, but maybe we can chill with it when someone is: - Already cuffed and surrounded by cops - Clearly outnumbered - Locked inside DOC or a cruiser Now there are ton of different scenarios, I obviously can't list them all. But people need to start using common sense and begin calculating their situations in whether they should use it or not instead of just throwing it out there every time to cover themselves. Would be great if staff could drop a short announcement or clarification on when it’s actually needed — like when someone might realistically resist (e.g., only one cop on scene, suspect unrestrained, etc.). Lets talk about it, if you have better suggestions feel free to write it down below, I think its time to have a better roleplay experience! Quote
Harley Posted July 30, 2025 Report Posted July 30, 2025 If I remember correctly, this changed YEARS ago. The proper etiquette to RP should go something like: /me attempts to do X This then gives the other player a chance to do /me resists or /me doesn't resist /do kinda changed from a /do s? command to something more descriptive, like: /do the stench would be coming from the trash can Correct me if I'm wrong but I swear this change was announced ages ago??? 1 Quote
AnnoyingOne Posted July 30, 2025 Report Posted July 30, 2025 I also find it stupid that I would have to type "attempts", it's given that if I am RPing with someone, any action I can do is an attempt, it's just unnecessary. As for when someone can do a forceful action or not, even if you have 20 cops on someone in your example, they still resist. Every action should be resistable unless your character is in a state where they can't resist. (Knocked out, injured, restrained (but even here they can partially resist) ) 1 Quote
k0ma Posted July 30, 2025 Author Report Posted July 30, 2025 Yeah you can partially resist, but the whole point of my post is that PD don't need to ask me in /do if they're able to do a certain action, because if I want to RP resisting it, I will RP it and we can continue from there. Quote
AnnoyingOne Posted July 30, 2025 Report Posted July 30, 2025 I don't ask in /do, unless I want a specific answer. The issue is that if we do ask in /do or in /b the RP goes through sooner. I usually just wait the 30 seconds that they have to RP, and then do my action Certain people intentionally wait till the last seconds of said 30 seconds and if you do any action before that, you will be reported on the forums. So to be safe and not get reported, people just do /do or wait 30 seconds It sucks for everyone involved, but staff is to be blamed here Quote
Ash Posted July 30, 2025 Report Posted July 30, 2025 (edited) if someone does /do am i able, i just ignore it personally and continue with whatever /me is relevant to the actions i'll be doing "/do able?" is just incorrect usage and just a different variation of "/do s?" CalvinKlein Posted July 30, 2025 Report Posted July 30, 2025 Whenever I /me attempst to bla bla .. and the person just stands there and doesnt respond, I usually do /do would I succeed? to get their attention instead of forcing RP or going OOC "respond to rp please" Quote

This is indeed correct. An announcement was put out a couple of years back to inform the community of this change. Players should simply type out their /me input and then wait for the other player to respond with their own RP. Doing /do able? is not proper RP and its unnecessary. Typically if someone misses some RP or doesn't respond immediately, I just send them a friendly PM such as "/pm hey, there is some RP waiting for you" and they typically just say "oh, my bad...didn't see it" and then they respond. I've never had any issues with just PMing someone letting them know that there was RP they missed. Quote
UseroneGaming Posted July 30, 2025 Report Posted July 30, 2025 I absolutely agree. I've seen /do *Able? quite a few times myself. I think if someone's not responding to roleplay, and you think they may've missed your /me action, the most technically correct thing to do in this case is to ask in /b (not /do) whether your character would be able, or just straight up ask them to respond to roleplay. /me is used for third-person descriptions of your character's direct actions, while /do is meant to be used for third-person descriptions of events. /do is not meant to be used for, essentially, out-of-character questions about lack of in-character response, when appropriate (aka. when force/violence is used against someone).
