Teenyinnit Posted August 24, 2024 Report Posted August 24, 2024 (edited) I'd like to see a change with cuffing, currently it's extremely hard to resist cuffs. I think if your hands are up in surrender it should be easier to cuff like it currently is however if the crim is not hands up or on knees, they should be given the option to resist and the /me roleplay should be conducted, currently PD (mainly) just walk up to you and cuff you with zero RP. Yesterday myself and some shadows were simply standing around a police car (to try and be intimidating) and cops showed up and just cuffed some of us with zero conversation or chance to resist. I play SD and Crim currently and I always RP the cuff unless the person is tazed or incapacitated. it's important to remember that as an LEO you are effectively the judge jury and executioner and this change where the RP has been removed is extremely powergamey and unfair on criminals. so rule suggestion: Unless person is tased or incapacitated, make it RPly necessary to /me the cuff. the current cuffing is so quick that it's impossible to resist with no prior warning, especially as IRL it takes more than half a second to put someone in cuffs. (which is about how long we have to resist) EDIT: thanks for the comments! i agree now that insta cuffing is more realistic especially when it's Verbally RP'd "i'm going for cuffs" kinda vibe! thanks guys! SquirtleSquad Posted August 24, 2024 Report Posted August 24, 2024 This isn't a thing that needs to be suggested as a server rule but could be considered for reworking the cuff mechanic. There doesn't need to be any OOC protocols to inform the player that they are to be cuffed, that's why there's a script minigame there to resist. I've seen plenty resist and be successful with it.
Quietthecutie Posted August 25, 2024 Report Posted August 25, 2024 Prior to the cuffing minigame, it was required for an LEO to rp attempting to cuff you, giving you a chance to respond. However with its introduction, that changed. The minigame is now the interaction. LEOs are not currently required to rp the cuffing. So yeah, it would be a mechanic rework youre looking for. LEOs rping the cuffs when theres already a minogame would be redundant. 1
Cup Posted August 25, 2024 Report Posted August 25, 2024 to be quite honest its extremely easy once your used to the minigame to resist cuffs. It gets harder if your tased then cuffed.
Requiem Posted August 28, 2024 Report Posted August 28, 2024 Echoing the comments above. It would be redundant to have to do both as the mini game already exists. I have seen a lot of people break free from the cuffing whenever they have tried. Also, take into account that drugs can help these minigames to allow you to more easily breakout of cuffs as well.
starset Posted September 7, 2024 Report Posted September 7, 2024 I will tell you what i've seen in other places where this script is emplemented. Everytime they use this script. THEY SHOUT with their voice GOING FOR CUFFS, then they apply cuffs. I think they should warn the players that they're going to use that script making them ready to react. In my case last night a cop just cuffed me with the script cuz i was just not cooperating with him.
Bala Posted September 9, 2024 Report Posted September 9, 2024 (edited) I'll be honest with you, I miss the command and having to do the RP, surrounding it. Some things should be done through RP, like cuffing and BLS, wasn't any need to fuck with it. CTRL + X then waiting for the timer, is not it. Edited September 9, 2024 by Bala
Loca_Mocha Posted September 9, 2024 Report Posted September 9, 2024 On 9/7/2024 at 8:11 PM, starset said: THEY SHOUT with their voice GOING FOR CUFFS I personally always audibly say "Ok, going for cuffs" about a second before I press the key bind. And If I notice that they were (( Typing... )) as I press the key bind, I then /uncuff them instantly. so that they have the chance actually to resist if they wanted to, and then do it all over again. 1
Quietthecutie Posted September 12, 2024 Report Posted September 12, 2024 (edited) Honestly for 90% of interactions, I think we are overthinking this. it should be self evident that someone is about to be cuffed, and that is entirely dependant on the situation that the arrestees IC actions puts them in. if you have been naughty, and you see a cop move behind you, then you should expect to be cuffed. you do not need a 3 2 1 go to resist. Now in most cases that involve a cuffing, this will be on an arrest, or an evasion aftermath or some other controlled scene where its clear you are about to get cuffed. even for street arrests I will say to the person before I cuff them "ok sir/maam i will at this point be arresting/detaining you." as this is just good roleplay. what I will not currently do is /me tries to cuff. because the act of me telling them that they are under arrest or detained already explains the situation to them if its not already immediately self evident, such as if they have just tried to evade. in which case I will go just go for cuffs. Once again, we used to have mandatory "/me tries to cuff" RP because there didn't used to be a minigame. and the resisting part of the cuffing and how that was handled was up to the arresting LEO. sometimes they would dice for it or provide RP as to weather or not the person could run off, and sometimes they would just say "NOPE" and cuff them anyways. Now we have the minigame. so it is no longer the LEOs call, its down to the crim and their skill to shake off the cuffing through the minigame. a minigame you already get 2 attempts at and the skillchecks are not that hard. fast but large success zones. So in short, as I said, what you're looking for is a rework or a revert back to the old system of it being RP based and not skillcheck based. otherwise its just a skill issue if youre asking for a countdown for the minigame. Ranger Posted October 8, 2024 Report Posted October 8, 2024 The change was brought in to make the RP of being arrested/cuffed quicker and get rid of the awkward interactions of two players sitting still for (sometimes up to) minutes for RP to happen. The minigame was added to allow for resistance to cuffs, and LEO factions have adopted a "warning" to ensure that players are not just being surprised; in a way to "prepare" them for the incoming cuff so they can do the minigame if they want to resist. At this time, for the reason(s) mentioned above, we will not be adding this suggestion to the server rules and by the EDIT on the main post, it seems that this is no longer being pursued. This will be archived.
