COMPLETELY delete public lab tables and chop shops.
Daxu replied to Demonmit1's topic in Criminal Suggestions
Giant +1 I think public labs should stay around while this new system would be tried out. As much as we may argue it's best to keep new players out of labs and chopping, there's something to be said for balancing the experience, as its really some of the only ways new crims can get a start. If there were positive reactions to a "place anywhere" system, removing the preset tables and lowering the startup cost for players would be a definite next-step. Maybe developing a system where you buy the lab components (beakers, burners, etc.) and chemicals from humane labs/imports, a folding table from the general store, etc. then combine them in the inventory to get a functional drug table? Maybe that's too much but something similar might be a cool way to balance the startup costs with complexity. -
+1 with the caveat that it should be either the mechanic or the customer who has it then gets a benefit. I really enjoy being able to do my job faster as a mechanic as I can RP the less intense repairs or mods with a bit more realism.

-1 I've been playing here for like 6-7 years and every crim character I have would be hit pretty big if they lost an AK due to a rulebreak LOL. - I agree that unnecessary reports exist--glancing at almost every player report that comes in, you can tell some have more weight than others off the jump. I can't speak to the potential culture of "throwing everything at the wall and seeing what sticks", but I'd bet staff has an idea of watching for those trends and considers it accordingly. We don't ever want to discourage the community from reporting a potential rule break, and I fear making some arbitrary anti-criminal solution about refunds would cause that. If there's no recourse to a rule-break situation other than educating someone else, many people won't put the effort in to prepare a report, Reports are meant to punish egregious cases of poor behavior, sure, but their primary goal is to educate players and (hopefully) improve the community at large. If someone has a question as to how a particular situation went down, they should absolutely get council on it, so they may take that understanding and be positive beacons to their associates in the server, educating them on future situations, past misunderstandings, etc. With that, there is room to advocate players try working issues out between themselves first, before running to forums. Of course you need to be careful about trying to void a situation without staff approval and all that stuff, but there's no harm in attempting a civil discussion like "hey XYZ happened and I'm not sure how I feel about it. can you give me insight on what your escalation and motives were" or similar. Maybe it allows you to gain a mutual understanding that, hey maybe A's robbery location wasn't realistic, and B's decision to kidnap C should have been done better. Then if you wanted to see about giving/getting items back, check in with staff (if approval would be needed) sans giant report. Either way I think this suggestion comes from a good place but this iteration wouldn't work. -1

Reviving this thread to note that I have also run into this issue with lighting fixtures within my apartment. My interior happens to be the motel-room style, and for the lights I've placed, being "on" when I enter is a gamble. I've also noticed some lights only come on during in-game night, which is fine, but likely not the original issue.

+1 I hear where you're coming from--I wonder if that would be an easy rulebreak to notice though? Maybe as a workaround that doesn't clog up reports, upon vehicle destruction, items in the safe could drop into a physical safe entity that can't be picked up, but could be opened/picked/cut/etc.? So if you drive a vehicle into water, technically anyone could get it, but the owner would have a much easier time (with the key). That's just an off-the-cuff thought so I'm sure that has its own abuse avenues I'm not considering at the moment

+1 I would love an increase in RP between toll booth workers and factions (Mechanics, LE, EMS) if more people were incentivized to work them. Quoting @smalldogbyte

+1 I try to use it when I can, but by the time I have a chance to, the situation has often passed and I can't get it submitted +1 don't disincentivize folks to continue helping out with server/community costs if they have the means. +1 this mindset is healthier than the "get players out of the community" approach. What I might suggest is that in more situations (not all) where poor RP was on display and it led to significant IC consequences, maybe don't issue punishments but allow for it to be voided/restarted. In this way, all players benefit from an educational experience with staff and are not screwed over from something that wouldn't have happened if best practices were followed. Maybe this is already in place, not sure but I don't think I've ever seen this approach. -1 I have been a member of the community for 6+ years and still find myself asking people in /f chat "hey wait, is am I allowed to keep this person locked in the bed of a truck while waiting for police, or is it powergaming since they could realistically stand up?" (pulling from a real IC scenario I had the other day at Bayview ). I think we should all try to strive for perfection and higher standards, that way our outcome is "pretty good", but leaving no room for education across all experience levels with an ever-evolving community & rule-set is dangerous. I would encourage anyone to be the change that they want to see, and inspire others to follow you on that journey. Behavior is infectious and is easier to set in when you're new to something, so maybe try helping players get really fun, varied experiences where they can witness high-quality RP and learn from it (not just running labs and grinding freelance jobs). Engage with player-ran businesses and buy food/cater events instead of just spamming the general store/burgershot--plenty of high quality RP possible at a bakery or something. I'd even support/partake in educational sessions based on the (many) forum posts/private collections of RP guides/archived reports.

To legally own a firearm, you require a gun safe in your car if it is to be stored there. If you store your firearm in the possible scripted areas, you have a 1/3 chance that it gets yoinked by a some bobby-pinning boofah swiping glove boxes and center consoles. I propose an addition to the U menu that locks/unlocks a new inventory accessible with something like /CarSafe or U menu integration. This would still be pick-able for the real slim-shady's, but at an increased difficulty (could add scaling with safe quality, either be assigned to the car or customizable at mechanic shops). I lightly mocked up what it could look like: I'd love to hear what your thoughts are.

+1 I almost never use the VIP perk of free car washes because to drive down to the city and back, it ends up dirty again.

Reviving this to note that a Bayview dock has since been constructed near my initial suggestion point. Hopefully this idea keeps traction and we can see something done!

- I don't know if people are currently brute-forcing their way through ~10k freqs to find one that someone might be using, or ever really stumbling upon currently used ones all that often, but I'm not against making it a 5 or 6 digits value I guess, to mimic real frequencies. - I like the current complexity and limitations of the radio though, given that it's a radio and not some higher-quality transmission device. You famously can't get encrypted channels, only kind of mimicking it with trunking (which is, I think, what our version of the protected frequencies like 911 are). You also can't usually see how many users are actively receiving. With that, I'd love to see some other device in the future that could fill that role, it would be sweet. - Interceptors already exist IC, and are usually used to access the trunked frequencies like 911. Jammers exist, too I'd say +1 but maybe not to the extent of tweaking a whole lot that currently exists.
