Milo.
I will try to describe my experience as a new player, (as an experienced roleplayer and firearm owner) attempting to obtain a legal firearms permit in game. The First day, I (Milo) set out to get a driver's license and job of some sort. Ending up a as a money truck driver after talking to some people who have been around awhile. Milo is more than up for putting the work in to get started. He does this job for some time. Alright, things are going OK! I got in contact with some fine gentlemen who hooked me up with a ride to get a car. As time went on, more and more chaos broke out throughout the city. By the end of the day, Milo had been stabbed, beaten and robbed multiple times. OK, Milo decides it's time to get a firearms permit. His life is in danger. He goes down to the station and has an informative exchange with an officer. Milo follows the man's instruction, filing his application on the government website. Obtaining this permit is now Milo's #1 goal. Milo fills out the EXTENSIVE application, which takes some time to fill out. He eagerly awaits the results, abiding the law, getting beaten and stabbed a few more times(trying to avoid conflict) before receiving them. He gets his results, which state he is denied for getting one answer wrong on the "written part of the exam". Milo goes to confirm the 72 hour waiting period with an officer. The Officer states in OOC chat that it is "for sure in-game hours" Milo re-applies for the license. Milo receives another denial because he did not wait 72 actual hours. Milo now realizes he's pretty much screwed for the next 72 hours unless he becomes a criminal or a cop. The problem here is, I am sure, Milo is not the only one faced with this dilemma. At this point, I can no longer roleplay Milo as his character is meant to be roleplayed. I think that there are probably A LOT of people who immediately turn to a life of blatant crime and chaos due to this. I believe if a firearms permit were more reasonable to obtain, it would significantly reduce the amount of chaos caused by this loop. I would ask that the firearms licensing system be re-evaluated, ending in a law abiding citizen to be able to obtain a permit, after what most people would agree to be a reasonable amount of time and effort. kenichis
hey, you should probably try and give an email on the government forums to the FLD / Firearms Licensing Division. Since the FLD is run by players and you can send a complaint about their current system to the FLD directly.
CaesarSeizure
This is an IC issue and should in no way be enforced by any rules.
Milo.
Anything that hinders roleplay, especially to this effect, is no longer an IC issue, in my opinion. Clearly, the intention of this post is to expose how flawed the firearms permitting system is and it's impact on roleplay. I posted in this thread in hopes that someone who actually has the ability to implement changes would come across it. I went out of my way to point out how broken this permit system is and how it impacts roleplay, it's up to the ones who run the server to act on it. I stopped playing pretty much because of this, just my experience though.
Marca
You're not the first or last to get a denied application, it's hardly a reason to stop playing. This is also a IC issue and should be solved IC. Keep in mind gov forum is entirely IC, however times are OOC to eliminate confusion.
Milo.
I will decide when something is an IC issue for MY roleplay or not. Thanks for yet another arbitrary response, I guess?
Knoxi
Still seems like an IC thing to me! I'm not really sure your issue here, we have pretty extensive protocol around Firearms Licensing for good reasons.
Denza
The firearms licensing exam is literally the easiest thing in existence. How do yo uget it wrong? And if there's some miscommunication between you and an officer, thats entirely between you two, no?
TreMetal
1. There is no suggestion (this should be in "discussions" if anything). 2. The test is laughably easy. Most of the questions are obvious as hell and if not covered in a 2 page document that takes maybe 2 minutes to read.
Osborn
Hello, thank you for your suggestion. As others have explained, your issue is more of an In Character issue rather than a rule discussion. There are ways to appeal FLD decisions / complain about firearms licensing officers using In Character ways. I hope that you understand, - Osborn.
