Latest concerns about roleplay

Dear Eclipse Community and Eclipse Staff.

I've started to play on this server about a week ago.
I met many great characters. Had a lot of fun.

But this wouldn't last long.

 

In the last few days we got endless waves of new players.

Players who don't care about the rules. Don't know sh*t about roleplay. They join the server just to steal cars at NCZ's, rob people as soon as they get a weapon and all that.

They have no fear of Death, they chat with "lol", "u" instead of "you", "lmao" and all that stuff.

 

You know, I have been into roleplay since about five years now. Played a lot on german servers, then hopped over to the english ones. And I really love quality. And this server has it. The scripting is incredible. And the server is really stable. Which means a lot nowadays.

So big shoutout to the whole Dev Team on that! Good job!

 

But what I wanna say. I play here since a week, and I only met 3 players who actually do quality roleplay. My personal favorite person is "Rocko Longwood". He's just incredible. And a huge asset to the server. (That doesn't mean that others suck but he just stands out from all the others so far.)

And this is what a good server needs, we get spammed with new gangs with idiotic masks.
Like I said before, new players form new groups. Wan't to create a gang.
But they only love to shoot. Most of these don't even roleplay their actions.
All they can say is "Hands up or we shoot" if you don't comply in 2 seconds you're dead. If they even give you those 2 seconds. I had a situation where I got shot on sight for no reason too.
Lost perhaps hours of hard work.

I am really worries where this is going.

If this continues we loose great RP characters like Rocko or others.
Then the server would be full of trigger happy idiots.

And this would be a shame cause in the second you join the server you see that you've put a lot of work in it. And you know. This would be lost cause you might get overwhelmed by trolls.

These are those characters I'm worried about. Cause they came from GTAO and think it's fun to dress like this. Well too bad we're on a roleplay server not GTAO. 

I just stand there and ignore them because, I don't wan't to roleplay with these kind of people. Which isn't the best way to deal with them but I'm just pissed to see them. Mostly because if you talk to these kind of people they this they some sort of badass. But I just can't take them seriously. I'm sorry. As much as some of the new gangs. Wearing similar clothing.

I really hope something will change.

Because I came to this server to join a Motorcycle Club. To do some really awesome roleplay.
And I didn't even came close to it. I got shot daily by fools that ignore every rule they had to describe in your Application Quiz.

And here I am, quite sad actually that the server is in that state at the moment.
I heard a lot of good of you guys and I really was hyped to join.
Then I join after a month waiting and basically all I get is shot or robbed if I step out of the NCZ.

Which doesn't help me with my roleplay.
And I'm sure others creativity suffers too.

Not everyone want's to fight, join a gang or whatever.

Also, there's so many rule breaking happening on this server and the reports get ignored or answered way too late. I know you all are busy or want to play by yourself. But this just helps those trolls to get away with their stuff.

So please,on behalf of the quality roleplayers on your server, which would be 50 from 300 players at the moment sadly, step in and try to help us. In return you get quality roleplay and loyality.

 

 

Little changes that would help out a lot for now would be:

1. No masks in NCZ. OR even better, no mask if haven't got a good RP reason to do so.

2. Troll characters, talking mostly about the guys around the NCZ, who jump on other cars, hit people with their BMX and claim that it was desync should get kicked off and re-read the rules. After that they should be watched closely. 

3. Robberies should be handled by the way the rules describe them.

4. Less robberies at all. Less shootings. More talking, more RP'ing. We're on a ROLEPLAY Server at all. Not a FiveM DM Server where you can shoot all the NPC's.

5. No more new gangs. PLEASE. max 5-6 Gangs are enough for this town. 

(These are only suggestions of course)

And If staff applications are open at the moment I'd love to volunteer to help out where ever I can. That doesn't mean ban 90% of the players of course. But explain to them. Respond to reports ASAP and help those admins out who are busy with more important stuff.

I like this server and it's community and I personally don't want to leave you all.

This text might have issues mostly with spelling but yeah, I hope you'll get what I mean.
If I find more mistakes made by myself I'll correct them.

It's understandable to get frustrated with things when your first week in the server isn't as pleasant as you expected. 

As you stated, robberies and other crimes are quite high in volume but a lot of this stems from the pursuit of money being a vicious cycle. Most people join and try to grind money till they have a nice home and cars. Yes having nice cars and a home can help "build" your character's image and your own self worth but it doesn't magically generate roleplay, they're meant to support it. When you put cars and houses aside and engage others in roleplay, you'll find yourself feeling much more satisfied and fulfilled. 

Lots of people try to play law abiding citizens at first and begin the grind for cars and homes like mentioned above but once people get set back a few times due to being a victim of a crime, most reach their breaking point and turn to crime themselves. This is why gangs are so common and active, it's strength in numbers while providing a feeling of belonging. Sure there's "legal" factions but not everyone wants to be a cop, medic, mechanic, cab driver, etc which leaves people alone and stranded making them ripe targets as victims.

Civilian RP has been a focus point lately and is still being addressed. Every week new businesses are trying to start up but it's not an easy process depending on what the business is. We see on the forums where people try to start worker unions for jobs but they have to rally people in character and actually build these things themselves rather than hoping for something scripted to be implemented. There's potential for so many Civilian RP avenues, there just has to be more motivation and drive from players to do it. I myself play a law abiding character and joined the government in order to help support additional civilian growth but it's surely not an overnight process unfortunately, it all takes time. If you put in the time and effort, you can do anything on this server honestly.

The greatest strength Eclipse Roleplay has is the level of acceptance the community itself has towards new players. What I mean by that is there's very minimal amounts of elitism throughout the players. Most people will gladly role play with random people outside of their circle of friends and new players have to take advantage of this. Sure it's a bit intimidating to approach random people at first for new players but once you can break out of the "shyness shell" you'll find all sorts of fun and entertaining characters being played by the players of the community.

Everyone is here to have fun at the end of the day. There are some who play like it's a competition that they always have to win but they're the minority compared to the majority of players who just want to have fun role playing. The ones seeking to "win" generally are the chain robbers and what not so they're seen more in random encounters around town which gives off the impression that's how the whole server is at first but if you can make it past that, you'll find that there's much more going on besides that.

I know this all doesn't magically fix things or makes things better but hopefully it brings some assurances that things get better, especially when you strive for your goals with your own effort and dedication.

I play Civilian RP! Almost exclusively (almost).

It is hard, it is painful, it is frustrating, it is downright awful!

All that being said, I am still here doing it. It is possible to put up with the BS, and find those great moments you are looking for. It is a double edge sword, Eclipse being so light on RP standards for criminals. On one hand roleplaying a civilian can make you feel defeated, bullied, and frustrated. On the other hand, it keeps the action and RP alive. Their is no shortage of creativity and diversity here. 

I have played on strict RP servers and they stale quickly for me. I rather enjoy playing the victim in Crim/Civ RP, and would do it every day!

But, it can be really, really, really hard! Many of my friends have left the server because the rules and enforcement of them is so heavily weighted to criminals.

All I can do is keep trying to show Civ RP is fun, and important, and hope enough people see it and make it better for us.

At the moment I can confirm there is no point as play civilian, there isn't any perk and it should change.

In addition, I'm playing Eclipse for time ago and as you say, there are amazing roleplayers who love the RP and create fantastic situations. But then, I meet gangs and people who just want to shoot, and always win. Also, I play as Police Officer, that's quite stressing sometimes... In a minute can explain some weird situations happened to me:

1. Yesterday, we went into a pursuit, and a sports bike just climb a mountain, yes, a mountain with a ridiculous % of elevation, just to reach the peak and fall from there. None is just surrendering, or RPing accidents. He just prefer to fall from the cliff instead surrender. Criminals mostly do it, and when they get captured they would say "/me gets a bobbypin from the sock and attempts to unlock the door", or just resists 20 minutes, waiting their friends to pick him up, ignoring 10 tase on their body. But of course, if they get a headshot, they want to RP death "because it's realistic".... or maybe because they don't want jail. Also, if they are not scriptly injured, they don't RP anything.

2. People using bikes to ram everything. Yes ladies and gentleman, bikes are OP on GTA, but you cannot use them to ram vehicles using desync or ram people. IRL if you ram a pedestrian with a bike, you will fall, for sure... The unique objective for most of players is WIN, WIN and WIN! They will try everything instead comply in a RP.

3. People ignoring environment RP: I was playing on a Spanish server for so long, and they actually have a very good RP level. There is a law authorizing you to frisk people wearing mask, as a probably cause. Here criminals just can stay around f***ng when you are doing a traffic stop or arresting someone, waiting the exact moment to help him, or just bothering you. Then there is people who just come to the PD by car and says you "fuck you officer", by free. People abuses using masks.

In addition, I was working as investigator inside the LSPD, and I saw many people failing RP as fuck... Just rushing interesting RP like a weapon exchange, doing them in the middle of the parking lot or at NCZ, abusing they can't be robbed there... Also I reported once someone doing a weapon exchange at LSPD, and the report just got denied, I still think this is lack of RP and non-rp.

 

Then you created "Rate RP", I don't for what is this useful or where can I check this RP track regarding a player... I don't know how that can be useful at all if only admins can see it. I would love if people get more concerned about the kind of RP they are doing, and if they try to improve it. It should be any reward to those players who hardly fight everyday to keep RPing well, otherwise we will lost them due to these others who are failing RP or are lacking RP and don't get punished. One good thing could be reduce jail time in RP involving the police.

 

For the last, I would like to congratulate that people who is hardly playing as civilian, but at any time they committed a crime. For example, I know a character who committed a crime 6 months ago (December 2018), armed robbery. It's the unique crime in her criminal record, and due to that, she cannot apply for firearm license or some government factions. This shouldn't be like that, as it's a game and as in some countries you can do.... There should be a way when a time pass, you can "delete this crime" for your record, or just don't take it in account. Otherwise is annoying to someone who just love his character, and is trying to keep a civilian RP.

Another cause is that the salaried factions have strict screening requirements that check for RP ability, among other traits.  Most players who suck ass at RP or are just stupid in general cannot pass even the most basic RP screening mechanisms.

Then, their only money-making option is crime.  The courier and trucking jobs are a joke, so it’s down to farming, mining, and fishing for legal jobs.  Those have limited to no RP because they are solo activities that do not require interaction, so they’re boring.  In addition, after getting robbed a few times, the ONLY way for bad RPers to have fun on the server is to be a criminal.

This is why you have so many people “RPing” a badass criminal who fears no one and basically powergames, leaving the other person in a “RP” with no ability to Roleplay back.

When I get robbed, if I do anything other than comply with demands, like RP fear by actions and words or begging or something, they just shout the same thing over and over at me, threaten reporting for stalling RP, etc.  Literally when I get robbed, these are my keys:

Ctrl + 1

/down

/do yes

/acceptfrisk

That’s it.  I try to say or do anything else and it’s just fucking chaos.  RPing with criminals on this server sucks because they suck at RP.

There should be more strict review of criminal RP and more temporary bans (like a few days) for non-RP.

This shit criminal RP frustrates both faction players and civilians, leading to constantly escalating OOC tension between (new and/or dumb) criminal players and non-criminal players.

Of course I’m sure many people RPing criminals do an excellent job, but those people also are not chain robbing.  It’s the regular criminal RP players who are terrible.

Problem is, most gangs act like we're on Gta Online.

Mostly Zetas.

All you can hear over voice is ten 15 years old kids laughing their asses off when they shoot you on sight.
That's my problem. And no one cares about it. Zetas have maybe 5 people who you can take seriously and you'd love to rp with. And I had the honor once. But thats it.

The Application quiz should be harder in the first place and new players watched closely.

And those who already on the server sorted out if they do shit.

I mean no offense to the younger Roleplayers, welcome to Eclipse.
But those trolls just destroy everything.

I'm normally used to hardcore Roleplay which makes it harder for me to roleplay with them but....I don't think these kids who are just here to troll are any good for the server and should be *ahem* "removed".

Sounds harsh but, you gotta keep out the trash. No matter what standards you have.

Such heartfelt words, I agree. robbing should not be the focus of criminal RP, give them something else to do... make a rule that a person can't wear a mask at bank... I hate that shit all we see is masks everywhere and its actually pretty meta because the only reason they are doing it is because they know it stops people from aliasing them aka remembering what they look like. There are a lot of things that can and will get better, I've heard a lot of the admin team chiming in recently, I used to think they were all tired and done... but recently we've seen them take such a strong active role in rule and server reform that I am hopeful we will see a lot of support for real honest RP... parties at a house, maybe a barbecue where you aren't gang rushed because they see 3 cars parked in a drive way. Also +1 to characters that make the server go around, Rocko is awesome and there are others like him. Unfortunately we lost one of the pillars of RP because they said the name of another server.... but still so many more are taking up that mantle, and we need more :).

I've only been here for a few days now and honestly I'm caught between getting the fuck out of here or sticking around and hoping it gets better. I come from SAMP, from NGG and LSRP way back when. I left NGG when, you guessed it, I grew up and didn't want to play SARPG low IQ simulator anymore and switched to LSRP for actual character driven story telling and roleplay. Since my time on here I don't think I've even seen one instance of genuine passive roleplay anywhere yet, was told the bank was much like the mall from LSRP, a hotspot for people hanging out and stuff. So, wanting to see what was going on I headed over there, in what should have been 3 minutes of a calm walk up there I was ran over twice by people driving sports cars flying over the hills as if they were tobogganing down a snowy mountain. One of which actually stopped and got out while I roleplayed being in critical condition after a large metal object going about 100mph smashed into my body. Thinking I was about to receive help and apologies from the driver of the second car I was happy, until he got closer. A man with tattoos all over wearing neon bright clothing, a party hat and a fucking clown mask walked up with a gun before saying, "Oh you're new," before running back into his car like nothing happened and driving off. I logged off and laughed for the next 20 minutes before going to the store and buying a 30 pack of beer before returning to continue exploring the server.

 

Once reaching bank and being slightly intoxicated from the 10 beers I chugged prior to logging in I saw nothing but neon bright sports cars, crotch rockets, and some other cancer inducing visual aids. Same with the people, all looking like they just left a hot topic mixed with a party city on acid with bass heavy rap blaring over speakers. The only /me I saw on my expedition into neveragainland was some guy with no arms apparently sniffing the ass crack of a female character that wanted nothing more than to get the fuck out of there. I walked up despite by instincts to delete Systems 32 and brick my computer. Immediately some guy wearing a top hat and a biker jacket walked up to me and asked me if I was looking to join a crew, attempting to think logically and reasonably I asked if he meant like a work crew or something. He told me no it was a gang, I responded the way any rational human being would and told him I didn't even know who the fuck he was and that I'd rather not. I was gifted the most beautiful, "lol k," by this man before he ran off and got ran over by a truck before continuing to run away into the distance like a gimp legged horse that wasn't put down. 

 

Needless to say I got the fuck out of there and got on the forums to see if there were at least people out there like myself who were questioning what the fuck was happening and if there was a carbon monoxide build up in the city air to explain the LSD trip I just went on. And yeah there were threads like this one and they're giving me hope, and over the last few days I've held onto that hope. The mentality of the criminal element is bad, with my limited exposure I honestly don't think we're playing the same game, it's almost as if they launched Arma hoping to play a life server that isn't whitelisted but GTA launched instead and they said fuck it. I see nothing but RPG like goal oriented play, no character development, no passive RP with the homies on the block smoking crack out of a hookers ass, not even a trip to Cluckin Bell for 2 number 9's. I see 'gang members,' driving around in sports cars only the richest white collar fuckboi could afford committing petty robbery stealing burgers and water bottles from hard working Americans. And the problem is, I don't think they see this as a problem, but for anyone like me, I've never had to question my will to live much like when asking a guy driving a nice sports car on this server what he does for a living only to be given the chronic depression inducing answer of, "I rob burgers and sodas." Much like OP I joined looking for an MC, I even asked ICly why there were none? The answer I received while serving my first sentence in prison for kidnapping and battery (getting the same time as a cop killer lol) was that there has been MC's around. But they've all died off because.... Get this boys and girls, they don't drive fast enough cars and weren't aggressive enough. Dear god no, just no, the BIKER GANG doesn't drive fast enough cars to get away from people and wont use crotch rockets... Because no shit they were a 1% club, you know.... The Harley riders? Those guys? Yeah they didn't drive fast enough cars like Mr.IRobBurgers. End my sweet suffering I'm going to cling to hope it gets better and hopefully they open an LEO agency that lets me get the fuck out of Megacity 1 and into the county where I can hopefully RP without having burger robbers wearing clown masks driving ferrarri's trying to take my lunch away from me to sell for crack money.

 

The mentality of people here makes me want to commit genocide and the few people I've met that I've enjoyed being around are few and far between but I cherish their presence because they're probably going through the same thing I am.

 

tl;dr Feel swindled by the presentation of serious RP when it's more a Judge Dredd LSD trip simulator.

@Liam Boland Your feelings are valid, but you should not name other servers here, its tacky and against the rules. I also believe your anger is justified though you could be a little less aggressive in your post. All that being said you share some of the sentiments that a lot of us attempted civilian rpers have... we exist, but in small circles usually huddling around a quiet place on the outside of town, or in the home of someone hanging out. I don't know about motorcycle clubs, but best of luck, they existed for a long time, they just disbanded. The balance is way off and needs help, but like I said the admins have noticed, but they are dealing with so much, while trying to get the server functionally scripted in all elements, dealing with the massive influx in players, and rewriting a lot of the rules to suit the new changes... I don't know if or when it will happen... but I hope it does.

I say what comes to mind, it was meant to sound aggressive as well as humorous, I found the overall experience rather hilarious haha. Can't really convey the tone I meant to use over text. Also the rules state advertising GTA V communities. So I believe in naming two SAMP communities, one of which is dead and the other not far behind it is still well within the rules listed. And as you say the admins have noticed so I'll take your word for it, like I said I'm clinging to hope and sticking around for the time being to see if it gets better with time. Like a fine wine, or a dirty cheese.

To be honest if i'd be admin and would see this he'd be jailed for 2h. if he still runs around like this I'd kick him off forever. No one needs that trash.

As funny as the tractor guy was as I met him yesterday on the highway. He's basically just trolling.

What pisses me more off are these neon kids or those who can't afford clothes. Like you've posted up there.

Do a heavy check on the gangs. Don't allow new ones. Like I said max 5 are enough for this map.
If these 5 gangs know how to roleplay the whole server begins to shine. And you attract more players with potential, and donations will come from the heart. 
Not just to donate to get a new car asap.

I was reading your entire brick post @Liam Boland, and I was laughing so hard... But the worst, is because I don't want to cry. You explained all my feelings in that post, imagine if it is difficult to be police officer, add to this the amount of these kind of RP.

As @SamWolfe, I have been playing here for almost a year and... Please, if the admins hear us, you don't need scripts.... Scripts are only things to improve the RP experience, but the players need to be logical without scripts, and know when they are failing RP.

Just take out the trash dear Admin team. Your community (those who hide in the shadows so they can rp) will be really grateful.
I'm sure most players who join the server to roleplay are sick to hide in safezones or in houses to do rolpleay that doesn't involve shooting and robbing.

For example I had huge goals on my char. I didn't want to get the most expensive car, or kill as many as I could.
I wanted to join and be a good part of our community here.

But I was forced to get a weapon. I was forced to defend myself after I've been fishing for hours.
I was forced into a gang since i had more chance to survive. And therefore I'm forced to do crime rp to actually survive and maybe one day have something I can be proud of.
