  1. If I ICly obtain someone's identity and /alias them, how is that metagaming? I can recognize people's faces IRL. The resolution in the game isn't high enough to use that method, which is why we have /alias. You can make it so getting plastic surgery removes all /alias, although maybe that already happens? Or the /alias tag only shows up when they're within FOV? Although the latter would take a lot of coding.

    8 gangs!

TFW there are so many gangs and criminals on the server you run out of primary colors
  3. The solution isn't to increase punishment for crimes, IMO. The solution is to hold criminals to the same standard of Fear RP that civilians and non-criminals are. Criminals need to realistically fear death and prison, but they do not, while civilians are expected to comply with every demand when a gun is pointed their way. Criminals playing on the server as if they DGAF about dying or getting caught is Non-RP and should be punished as such.
  4. +1 to setting speaker default to 0.
  5. I mean, most are forced trips to the hospital if the player is downed, it's just they get teleported to the front once they're brought to the hospital.
  6. The way I RP this as an EMT is I usually do "field treatment" and basically get the person in stable condition, and tell them that the doctors at the hospital will do full treatment. The only problem with this RP is the /stabilize animation, since the entire point of an EMT is to stabilize and deliver to the hospital. Maybe there should be no /stabilize animation. Instead, the script should just prevent the person from dying once the medic gets there so the medic can /anim kneel and RP with a person who is on the ground, not someone standing up while they have 4 gunshot wounds and a broken leg. My suggestion would be to remove the /stabilize animation and make it a script purely for the purpose of stopping HP loss, just like /heal gives back health. With respect to OP's suggestion, I will add that given the call to units-on-duty ratio, tying up medics in complex doctor-patient RP at a hospital will lead to a ton of people dying on the street. The treatment has to be somewhat fast because sometimes lots of people get injured all over the map. Maybe we can have permanent in-hospital doctors, but that's going to take a lot more thought.
  7. Another cause is that the salaried factions have strict screening requirements that check for RP ability, among other traits. Most players who suck ass at RP or are just stupid in general cannot pass even the most basic RP screening mechanisms. Then, their only money-making option is crime. The courier and trucking jobs are a joke, so it’s down to farming, mining, and fishing for legal jobs. Those have limited to no RP because they are solo activities that do not require interaction, so they’re boring. In addition, after getting robbed a few times, the ONLY way for bad RPers to have fun on the server is to be a criminal. This is why you have so many people “RPing” a badass criminal who fears no one and basically powergames, leaving the other person in a “RP” with no ability to Roleplay back. When I get robbed, if I do anything other than comply with demands, like RP fear by actions and words or begging or something, they just shout the same thing over and over at me, threaten reporting for stalling RP, etc. Literally when I get robbed, these are my keys: Ctrl + 1 /down /do yes /acceptfrisk That’s it. I try to say or do anything else and it’s just fucking chaos. RPing with criminals on this server sucks because they suck at RP. There should be more strict review of criminal RP and more temporary bans (like a few days) for non-RP. Edit- This shit criminal RP frustrates both faction players and civilians, leading to constantly escalating OOC tension between (new and/or dumb) criminal players and non-criminal players. Of course I’m sure many people RPing criminals do an excellent job, but those people also are not chain robbing. It’s the regular criminal RP players who are terrible.
  8. It's been mentioned everywhere already, so I don't need to reiterate the problem of people "RPing" criminals running around with guns, finding every joe schmo on the road, point a gun, yelling "HANDS UP", typing /frisk and /do success?, and then making off with everything the player has, from burgers and water to radios and guns, and then driving off with the player's car. Not only is this garbage RP from the get-go, but wanton chain-robbing should be considered a violation of Fear RP. There's a reason why people don't get robbed at gunpoint constantly in real life. Criminals are both afraid of prison and also afraid of being killed by the police. Yet on the server, criminals behave as if they have zero fear of the police. They willingly get into shootouts, they don't care about getting caught, and they're more than happy to rob, stash, and deposit, and then get into a shootout and afk in prison once the cops finally catch up to them, if at all. Fear RP needs to extend beyond merely complying with everything someone says when they have a gun pointed at you. The whole point of Fear RP is to create a realistic RP scenario. The consequences of either capture by the police or even death are so low that player's don't RP as if the threat of violence or death is even real. Either make criminals bound by Fear RP, or change the rule so civilians don't have to comply with every demand just because someone was hiding in a corner in the foundry, using 3rd person view to wait for the first non-new player to walk by before jumping out and yelling HANDS HANDS HANDS.
  9. I get that. I want to donate because I think management, coders, and everyone else involved in running the server have done an excellent job and I want to help the server continue to thrive. That said, I do want to use my credits in an informed manner, so I was just wondering what was "fun, cool or unique" about the Windsor. I tried asking around a bunch IC but nobody could give more details beyond what you can tell by looking at it and that it drives fast/handles well, which is actually good enough for me. I just don't know why someone would recommend not getting it.
  10. Why not? I'm trying to decide what car to buy. Any recommendations? Also wondering what about the SuperD makes it so expensive (both in credits and cash), aside from its looks, which seem rather ordinary to me.
  11. Does anybody own the Windsor? Wondering if it’s a good car.
  12. Maybe make wearing masks sufficient probable cause for a police officer to stop and frisk? It is suspicious after all.
  13. It's also weird that cops aren't allowed to camp known criminal spots, or camp the foundry/fishing spots, but criminals can camp them so they can chain rob civilians.
  14. This makes a lot of sense. Currently, the price of "fun criminal RP" is borne by new players trying to make enough money to buy a car so they don't have to jog from the bank to their bus driving job. It makes no sense that the ultra-wealthy of the server, such as people who can afford multi-million shops and properties, are not the primary potential victims of crime. If the rich were at risk of losing money to crime, they would be incentivized to hire private security, which would open up an entire industry of RP. I believe there are people who are trying to get private security businesses off the ground, but nothing is going to work unless it's more profitable than chain robbing. Although I guess the server does a pretty good job of emulating real life in that the rich can have fun and do whatever they want, while the poor have to drive a truck in circles and do nothing else but get robbed on occasion (or turn to crime). "But the poor can RP!" Sure, if they never want to be able to afford more than a $10k sedan, because they can't make money while RPing anything other than a delivery driver or a miner. It is also a little jarring walking past the constant Halloween party outside the bank, speaker and all.
  15. I only started playing on the server yesterday, but I will agree that it feels like my job is to drive a truck around and hope to not get robbed. There doesn't seem much else for civilians to do, as the jobs (especially the most profitable ones like farming and mining) require zero player interaction, so I just drive around to try and make enough money for a car while hoping that nobody decides to jump me as I'm leaving the foundry.
  16. I'll add that there is an official penal code in the police department subforum that outlines everything that is and isn't legal. I'd check that spreadsheet to see if standing on public property is listed. It might be a good idea to put the laws in a more obvious and accessible area.
  17. I agree that the speakers (in random public places like in front of a hospital) in general are weird, annoying, and immersion-breaking.
  18. +1, but I have a lot of comments and proposed modifications. Thanks for taking the time to write this up and propose this! I am actually a lawyer IRL (can provide proof to mods if this is required in case they don't want people making bold claims), and I think it would be really fun to RP a judicial system. However, as I'm sure most of you are aware, not only is the RL judicial system very complicated, it is also very slow. One of the main reasons it's slow is because there are so many moving parts. In addition, the law is complex, because it is designed to deal with a wide variety of situations. Adopting anything close to a real life judicial system would be far too onerous a task, as everyone involved in the RP would have to spend a substantial amount of time learning the law, including the entire PD. From a RP perspective, your proposed trial requires too many people to be online. You need a judge, the arresting officer(s), a proescutor, the defendant, witnesses, and a defense attorney. Not only does this require a huge amount of coordination and time, it also ties up the officers that may be needed for other crimes around the city. This doesn't mean that the officers shouldn't need to be present--it just means that the process needs to be relatively quick. The following area few ideas that could make a Judicial System feasible: - Because there is already a very handy and comprehensive Penal Code available, there should be a cutoff point at which the judicial system kicks in. For example, speeding tickets shouldn't tried. It may make sense to only employ the judicial system for crimes where the prison sentence is 1 hour or longer. - We should cut out the prosecutor, and instead have the only lawyers in the room be the judge and the defense attorney. The arresting officer will be forced to take on the role of a "prosecutor," but the legal Role Play only needs to be between the judge and the defense attorney. The defense attorney's job is to convince the judge that the evidence the officer has gathered is not sufficient to meet the state's burden of proof, and the judge will be the ultimate arbiter. The arresting officer needs to only present the evidence that he discovered--he should not have a role in arguing whether the burden is met or not. Here's some more elaboration on how the trial would proceed (they are nothing like IRL court proceedings, but are tailored to make sense for RP): State's Case in Chief The arresting officer first takes the stand, submits all of the evidence he has gathered to the judge, and answers any questions the judge has. After the judge is done questioning the arresting officer, the defense attorney can then cross examine the arresting officer. This process can be repeated for all of the state's witnesses, although anybody who isn't the arresting officer will not be submitting evidence. There should be strict time limits on the questioning of witnesses--maybe 10 minutes. Defendant's Case in Chief After the state (arresting officer) has made its case, the defendant takes the stand. The defense attorney will question the defendant, after which the judge will have an opportunity to cross examine. Each session should last no more than 10 minutes. Then, any witnesses who are testifying on behalf of the defendant are able to be questioned in the same process. At the end, the judge will make a final determination. Maybe the judge will have the authority to either increase or decrease the punishment based on whatever mitigating evidence the defendant presents (duress, etc.). The person RPing the judge must be impartial and pass some type of legal exam, which I am more than happy to help write. The entire "trial" shouldn't take more than an hour, although getting everyone together and settled might take longer than that. - It may make sense to increase the punishment for crimes for which a trial can be held, because now, criminals have a chance of getting away with their crime via the trial. To be clear, the trial shouldn't just be an extended sentence where the criminal ends up in prison anyway--the defense should be able to win. RP Benefits of the System The reason this system works is because it balances the need for efficiency and simplicity with the fun of roleplaying a criminal trial. For example, witnesses can be bribed, kidnapped, or even killed. Conversely, they can be actively protected by the police. Arresting officers will have a much greater incentive to get witnesses who will testify to the crime. There can be snitches in open court, who may then have to deal with the rest of the gang. The judge and the defense attorney's questioning of the witnesses to get the whole story will also be an exciting process. If this works really well, implementation of a jury would be easy, as you would pull random players in to be the actual arbiter. In that case, the judge would basically be the prosecutor.
