Dev Work

Hello!

Im hoping to spark this into a topic that inspires POSITIVE CHANGE, not negatives of "this is wrong - this is wrong" etc etc....

It is clear there are problems that needs to be addressed.

CURRENTLY: we are at peak times. When the server should have the most amount of players, upwards of 225-250, the most RP happens, the events happen, etc etc. At 9PM UTC the peak is currently at 150. So, I've asked a few people what they think needs to be addressed, and thought maybe turning a suggestion in and getting others to voice their concerns, might be able to poke at Developers to start targeting certain areas to bring people back in and active.

1. The biggest thing that EVERYONE I've talked to has in common. Dev work is non-existent. We have very few Devs, and usually their focus is NOT on the crim side.

-You look at other servers, and I know we aren't supposed to compare or "promote" other servers, which I wont, but a certain server that everyone is currently on has MONTHLY updates to keep things new, make new additions, etc. The newest things that have been added over the last 6 months OF VALUE: .....U menu... Levels of different things... new banks, new labs... a HSW update tease that nobody wants..

-One player was recently banned and after several months, they were so excited to return, just to see that barely anything had been done and realized things were still boring. That is why most players have moved over to FiveM servers. When it comes to ECRP, there really is no competition that its the best Rage server out there. some may argue GTAW cause thats the OG, but personally I still think this server has more promise.

-Another player plays SD mainly, but also has a crim they've been playing more. Their thoughts are "Criminals have barely anything to do. Chop cars for no profit, hit a bank, get 30k from said bank, but normally have PD/SD camping said banks because THEY have nothing to do, or go to labs and fight 24/7, which now is mostly cheaters." So from that standpoint, everything is stale! Devs need to figure out that developing CRIMINAL activities is the jumpstarter that will give LEOs things to do, which then gives DOC more activity, and its a domino effect.

2. The toxicity of the server

-Most people I asked complained that the server itself, has just gotten so toxic, and staff are not only letting it happen, but some of them are the problems themselves. What do I mean by this? Think back to the last time you had a situation where the other party ACTUALLY wanted to roleplay. It kind of baffles me with a lot of these changes, it takes away from the ability to do /me and /do, and its just forcing stuff on other players when realistically it should be a dance between two or more people.

-Most people have lowered their standards SO LOW that the server is barely recognizable.  People lower their standards because others that have joined are not held to a standard as much any more. The issue is, EVERYONE complains about it, but nobody changes and leads by example.

Im just gonna stop there so its not a novel, and I want others to bring up issues - but also offer solutions. Because we all know there is a problem.. the next step is to fix it together and try to lift things up. For crim - FM has stated we need to not rely on script to provide RP, but lets be honest we are VERY limited in our options on that route. So, please lets not make this a complete bitch fest but make some constructive ideas to assist. If we just let it go, this is going to turn into another NGG situation where the server will close its doors, and 20 copycat servers will show up and split our playerbase. So, floor is open!

SIDE NOTE: None of this is meant to be slandering the server, so don't take it as such, and dont make this an opportunity to singling specific people out. That isnt what this is meant for, so do it elsewhere if thats what you want.

tl;dr- We're bored and want something else to do - ECRP feels like a game that's been in a content drought longer than Overwatch 1 was.

Maybe the levelling system should have been released alongside some more fun content. Stuff to progress that isn't just a level in the U menu. Progressing gives you better stuff to do. Take inspo from those who are doing it better than us right now I beg!

I'm tired of seeing the server with only 140–150 players at peak times when it used to have 240+ before. This creates less RP scenarios and less overall activity on the server.

Recently, there was a poll about allowing players to plant weed seeds anywhere on the map. It had 91% voting “yes,” yet it still hasn’t been implemented.

^ This was a really cool idea. do more concepts for this, buffing specific jobs for a small amount of time. criminal and civilian.

I feel we're at a point where theres no more big mechanic/script changes coming, and we're just looking at coasting till the end. little QOL here and there, auto alias, repair kits, impound. FM and Event team should really be looking at fostering regular crim/world events. no offense, but admin spawned race track events are just not it. the last one i bothered to go to had like 25 people total. spawn a crate out in the middle of nowhere, throw a flare on it, then TP as a PED character to a hotspot with people and start spreading a rumour about a crate falling out of a cartel plane. notice there's a bunch of people in DOC standing around doing nothing? pop in, spawn a switchblade on the ground, then leave! just little stuff, unscripted, unplanned, regularly, with different things for people to do. All this type of random situations is barred from players behind layers and layers of red tape for altRP requests, just start doing them randomly without any requests and let people just play it out. proactively make RP happen as Server faction management, and event staff, cause we already know theres no big dev changes happening.

Wasn't this possible at one Point a few years ago? Definetly saw some videos od People Planting weed Plants under Bridges and such, if this was to return maybe it could be ballanced for the weed Plants planted outside of labs to grow a little slower then those in the labs. It would devide players to those not in a gang that plant outside of labs and those which are in a gang and collect Plants from Labs.

Adding more stuff to the crim side would definetly spice things up not only for the crims but the whole server as a whole.

Some ideas I have are :

BAGS - People could place them over Peoples heads to add to Kidnapping roleplay, People with bags over their heads would be blinded by a bag texture or something, and their movements inverted.

More use for trucks: At this point on the server trucks are used either for moving furniture or freelance Jobs. It would be cool for criminals to have more use for trucks, either by transporting some sort of material that could aid them or transporting weaponry for whatever reason. Trucks definetly have more potential to be used by Crims if some stuff were to be added.

Something the server would benefit a lot from is just things to do solo. The only thing remotely worth doing by yourself is house robberies. However, even that gets ruined by people checking ui's on doors and robbing u once u walk out. Personally, i log in, check high end and low end, and if the gang i'm apart of isn't doing much i just log off and go check other games. Sitting around possibly hours for something to do that is remotely exciting isn't something i'm willing to do anymore.

I like the new trucking, bus ideas and think it would be great to revamp other jobs too, as i'm seeing less and less people doing freelance jobs because they are boring.

Ive said this quite a few times, but i believe the server would benefit from a more detailed way to get whitelisted. These days, u can do a quiz which u can just google the answers to, and write a half assed backstory. I believe the server would benefit from people actually wanting to RP instead of joining the server to get a gun and roll labs from the getgo. Im not saying do interviews, as that can put alot of strain onto staff, but just a more detailed way of getting whitelisted or maybe just making it a bit stricter.

Ive wrote countless ideas on other posts like this but ive forgotten half of it. So il stop it here. Server needs more crim stuff. Which is a win win for cops + crims. More freelance reworks, which helps the select few people who do freelance. And more stuff to do by yourself that isn't robbing an atm for 9k and risking a DOC visit for 2 hours. Which actually brings me to a last point. DOC ACTIVITIES. I saw someone on the forums get a punishment for being afk in doc, or spoken to i cant quite recall. What bothered me about this is the fact DOC is known as a place to just go AFK and do nothing for the entire sentence. There's quite literally nothing to do but pickup trash and do laundry. Im not talking about making doc a place people want to go, but just make it so people dont want to claw out their eyes while inside. It feels like an ic and ooc punishment with how boring it is.

Anyways thats all from me, just thought id mention some things i wanna see. Look forward to seeing everyone elses ideas.

There are so many things that are fundamentally wrong with the current state of the server, and I understand that Dev work requires a lot of effort between concept, development & debugging. But it cannot be sustainable to have 2 Devs working on a project this big, and expect major updates/patches/meta changes.

The state of the server & its internal systems are so stale (doesn't necessarily mean that they are bad per se, but no matter how good something is, if you get accustomed to it for long enough, it becomes monotonous & uneventful).

1 - LEO vs Crim balance - Problem

This is arguably the biggest issue in the server. The current flow of events always favors LEO's instead of balancing it to be 50/50 or, in my opinion, slightly favoring Crims.

- LEO's have no repercussions from dying. Therefore allowing them to carelessly engage in RP scenes.
- LEO's have access to multidepartment backup. How's it balanced to have PD, SD, DOC, for gods sake even EMS, GOV, SASG, all together? But god forbid 2 small gangs try to cooperate against a bigger gang BACKUPPPP BREACH!!!
- Absolute disregard for realistic budgeting & response type. There is no regard for how many times a unit can spawn a new cruiser, no actual limit on how many units can respond to a scene, no real "the crime wasn't as bad, maybe we shouldn't send 15 units + air 1 + HSU just because the person has evaded".
- Let's not talk about the pagers, access to super cars that make no sense for LEO's to have, access to virtually every single weapon available in the game, access to unique equipment, access to locked frequency channels, access to an unlimited number of members in the faction, access to virtually anything without no real limitation, and i cant list the endless perks that LEO's get for literally no reason at all.

1 - Solution

Have LFM revisit PD/SD factions. Introduce tiers & regulations, promotions, demotions, and the sort for them as well. They are arguably the most important factions in the server, why are they exempt from the faction tier list? Why do reports not weigh the whole faction down? Why are they allowed to disregard any type of punishment, and if someone gets banned, they just replace him the next day?
Whereas god forbid one of my members doesn't put their hands up when SD shows up to a scene with guns, GET DEMOTED TO TIER -5

Introduce tiers, make them work for the access that they are given, punish the whole faction for rule breakers, and balance things out. Stop putting LEOs on a pedestal. If I die, I lose 100k (between Heavy Weapons, .50, blunts, steroids/heroin, AP armor, Impound Fees, Prison Fines), whereas if the LEO dies, nothing happens; he's lock and loaded for the next RP (DM) Scene.

- Provide unique access to special equipment/scripts that LEO's dont have access to.
- Remove backup breach rule. - There are not enough crims active in the server these days for this to be an issue. Let 2 tier 4 gangs cooperate to push a larger gang out of a lab.
- Increase member limit for illegal factions. Out of 30 available slots, 5 are always gonna be on LOA's, 5 others are AWOL pretty much, and it's always 15-20 no matter what.
- Have FM & LFM organize server-wide events that involve all factions, not just the regular free raffle @ "insert club here" to attract 35 people. RP Ops the entire server for AltRP organized by FM & LFM, it should be their responsibility to engage the player base, as they are the governing body.

It's so mind blowing that the constant complaint from the player base is "crim is dead, pd is too strong" and yet there's literally no attempt into steering that narrative the opposite way.

2 - Lack of transparency between devs/staff towards the player base - Problem

There's a very concerning lack of transparency between devs/staff when it comes to decisions, future updates, or pretty much anything.

There's a myriad of great suggestions in the Suggestions sub-forum, and 99% of them fall under deaf ears; the ones that receive a lot of traction (like this one) receive no official word from any of the staff members on whether it is being considered/discussed/rejected.

2 - Solution

Implement a new team (from existing Staff) that will bridge that gap between players & Devs. Notifying people whether their idea has been noticed & considered, allowing people to know what the next updates are going to include (just like 99% of games out there).

Furthermore, once people start seeing that their suggestions are not in vain, they can tailor their future ideas based on the feedback that they have received from the staff member. Knowing what the devs think is acceptable and/or doable allows everyone involved to provide better insight.

3 - Staleness - Problem

For a new player, ECRP is fucking amazing. Shit ton of stuff to do, tons of labs to discover, myriad of POI to find, and whatnot.
What about the others? 500k, 1mln, 2mln exp? We've done everything.
Chop Cars, ATMs, Banks, Stores, Labs, everything that the server has to offer. We have all the guns needed, All the cars one can ask for. What is there to do for us? Fly in every day and go goof around at bennys until something happens? Then fly out?
There's literally nothing to achieve after you reach a certain point. No grinding required, no motivation to actually do anything meaningful. People that cook drugs, cook just so they can buy guns, so they can cook/push more, it's just an infinite cycle.
But then everyone pretends that this isnt a PVP server...

Furthermore, something that has been good today, shouldn't be good tomorrow as well. In real life everything fluctuates, stuff gets better, new inventions are made.

Why can't we have a team of devs that balance these things out? Create a meta, where some guns are good, others not so good, for a period of time. This allows to create a circulation of "hot guns", putting illegal factions that can import those guns up in value, whereas making less valuable guns fall down in priority.

Same thing for cars, why is it so hard to implement 2-3-4-5-6 cars every 2-3 months? Edit the performance of a few cars, make them better than others, and cycle them, so we start seeing more life, more color, more variety in the city.
Why do I have to see a Niobe every day? GTA 5 has over 750 vehicles, yet we see the same 20-30 cars in the city over and over.

Kamacho, Paragon, Niobe, Shinobi, BF400, Terminus, etc..

________________________

3 - Solution

Cycle meta's in the server. Tweak numbers of Guns, Vehicles, Illegal Activities.

Add a constant cycle of number changes on the above, improve damage/cost/recoil on some of the guns, while lowering the others.
Increase handling/acceleration/top speed on some cars, while lowering the others.
Increase payouts from certain activities during a period of time but lower others, so people start cycling through all of the activities, and it doesn't become a shit show at labs.

By doing this, you prevent people from sticking to a single thing, forcing everyone to shuffle things around, sell assets to buy the new "hot guns", sell their musty ass fucking kamacho that has been to Island at least 910 times this year alone, just for them to buy the new meta vehicle

Add time-limited activities. 1 week a month there's going to be a special activity that can be done by crims (Counterfeiting, Large Heists, etc..)
Add world events for crims -
Money truck spawn, notify random factions + PD/SD once it gets hit.
Daily smuggler request, random NPC around the city requires a specific item to be provided to him, first faction that brings it to him gains a large sum of money/special item/whatever you have.

Isn't it obvious how such small additions create so many RP opportunities?
I'd personally fucking flying in a second if I knew there was going to be stuff like that planned for that day or what not.

___________________________

These are just a few ideas, a few solutions, for a few of the problems. But there are many, many more problems in the server.

Remember that this is a game, people want to have fun, that should be the first priority, then realism comes in a close second.
But we are currently not doing any of the two.

There's arguably (not so arguably) <2 years left for this version of ECRP, once GTA 6 comes out, all of this is is going to be forgotten. So make these last moments be worthy of remembering, instead of pushing people away day by day.

Enjoy.
