DM permission revamp for the DOC

Recommended Posts

Hello all and thanks for reading,

i recently got unbanned from the server due to me being stupid lmao, and i got arrested today. When i was taken to DOC i was being escorted by a single DOC guard and i tried to RPly bash her head off of the cells bars.

the guard says I'm unable to because of DM rights! My character is a maximum security inmate and his record literally states that he has a 100% aggression level.

I just got unbanned and honestly it's irritating. I suggest that the DM rules in prison should be changed so that prisoners can attack DOC guards.

Big -1

One of the main reasons why good roleplay seems harder to happen in prison is because everyone starts punching randomly. If anything, we need more strict DM rules in prison.

Roleplay is more than just attacking people, and the sooner we get rid of behavior like that, the sooner we can get actual roleplay going on. DOC posted some great examples of prison RP, that would be totally ruined by a "100% aggression level inmate" attacking guards.

We have recently become more strict on the DM rules inside of SADOC to further improve roleplay quality for not only DOC employees but inmates. I have genuinely had a lot more fun at SADOC, and inmates too, since we have become more strict on these rules as DM happens way less likely.

RPly your character's insane, which is fine, but that doesn't make you more powerful than server rules.

A big -1 from me.

There are plenty of valid reasons why you could naturally work your way to actually have a roleplayable fight with a guard, but I don't think that the first instinct should be to just fight.

I myself am considered an MSO/MSI or whatever they call it these days and the reason I have been able to hold that status is because I can pick and choose my battles in accordance to the rule set. There is nothing wrong with RPly attempting to punch a guard for something they say to you. Fact of the matter is, because this is a game, they can't dedicate enough people at all times to handle such priority targets because people have jobs and other commitments outside of the game, however, out of respect, you have to take that on board.

The prison is already a DM mess and as such, I've become a much smarter criminal because of this fact and as such have barely been sent there for a long time. This isn't because of the guards, it is because of the other inmates mindset while being in prison. If anything, DM rules should be a lot more inforced in prison.

Personally it's a -1 from me
I'm not throwing shade by saying this by any means, but during the time you've been banned several things have changed at DOC. The major one obviously is the new prison but also a paradigm shift in how people in the DOC faction think and also how inmates view prison roleplay.

From browsing the forum and getting feedback from regular criminals it's no secret that prison has been seen as an OOC punishment or somewhere you go to afk. As High Command of the DOC, we have put a LOT of thought in how to combat this stigma and have been trying to push various things to push the prison in a positive direction for people roleplaying both sides.

The main point of your post is obviously DM in prison. One of the main issues we have found with the old way of doing things was inmates randomly deathmatching and attacking each other, and also guards, which severely hindered roleplay. As mentioned in the above few posts, by having our DOC faction members more active in reporting deathmatching and enforcing it is appropriately used has significantly reduced these issues and also allowed for officers to be within the cellblock and open up new RP opportunities beyond "woah a guard lets jump them" in the prison.
There's a few other factors to that of course such as more heavy weapons held for patrolling as a deterrent for a more realistic fear inmates would have of guards for the trouble causers but generally speaking us enforcing the rules that should be being followed anyway has been amazing for prison RP the last few weeks.

This does not allow your character to get special treatment with the rules. We have several "Maximum Security Inmates/MSI's", when they attack a guard it should be done with reasonable escalation within the DM rules. And people thinking "I am roleplaying a 100% aggression level person" is borderline powergaming and a dangerous slope to go down.
In an RP server you are not the main character. And as @Z0thian says above me, it's unfair to expect people to bend to how you're playing your character (especially when your roleplay revolves around their faction when they have other people to cater to as well)

As @LeroySimpson and @alexalex303 say, the last few weeks have been amazing for DOC RP now that guards have been cracking down on rule breakers and not allowing people to randomly start fights without adequate escalation or reason beyond "my character is angry" and i urge you to give it a fair try instead of trying to go back to the old way of trying to force a huge situation, or hostage scenario whenever you come to the prison before you were banned.

The new prison has also opened up many avenues for more roleplay opportunities for everyone and at it's current state I don't believe DM rules need to be modified. In fact, expect people to be more strict with what they allow you to get away with in terms of rule breaches like DM and NonRP as we have told our faction members to ensure people have DM rights or prison break permissions for hostage situations and the right reasons required for randomly attacking people. These won't be immediate reports and ideally will be a simple message in /b to inform people first as plenty of people do not quite know DM rules apply in prison.

Big -1

This rule of DM has been around on the server for a long time. No matter the situation, no matter the person. Yes. You are an MSI, but MSI OOCLY is typically given to people who show a high level of rp skill and will allow rp and story to develop to reach a reason to DM. MSI/HVTs/inmates have plenty of rp opportunity within the DOC. MSI is strictly an IC label that DOC place on inmates that might attempt to harm or be a high security risk.

Also, an characters motive should not be solely focused on attacking officers or other people. I understand people might have characters who are serial killers or psychopaths, who have deep mental issues. But, these characters still have motives and build their character; not just wanting to attack every person they see.

We have a new prison, and we have agreed from the get-go that we would be strict when it comes to people randomly DM. Dm has been a continuous issue, which needs to be stop now. DOC has a zero tolerance for that behaviour. Especially since it's against the server rules. It takes away the fun for officers and inmates, if we are constantly being hit or attacked. In real prisons officer patrol around the cells and are respected/intimidated by officers because they know attack would be a high risk, low reward situation.

I was the officer in question. The officer you tried to bash my head into the metal bars. My character was walking you to a cell and then you just decided to attack me, we had no prior rp leading to this. I asked you to come to a cell and placed you in a cell. That doesn't give you DM rights. Yes, I was alone with you and yes, you could have easily attacked me, if you had an rp reason to attack me. If my character and your character has previous rp interaction; which would want to make your character attack mine.

The DOC now is a place for people to continue high level of rp and not be stopped by continues rule breakers. We all want to have fun, and dm is not fun.

SUGGESTION DENIED

Thank you for your patience while this suggestion was being reviewed/researched.

After reviewing/researching this suggestion, we have decided to deny it for the following reason(s):

  • SADOC has recently been given their very own prison rules which underlines that DM is no different outside of DOC than in.

This decision is final. Unless instructed to, do not post another suggestion pertaining to this topic. You will still be able to submit other suggestions on the forums.

Regards,

Chunder
