Don't allow crims to speak on PD/SD freqs

I am going to start with I think the new changes are really good but there is only one real issue and that is the new police scanner allows you to talk on it. The main reason behind this is that its going to get misused to hard and we are just going to be ear raped for 3 min. It happened today with some people screaming random things using it. And It is kind of weird that you can talk on our radio with a scanner which is supposed to just listen in to the radio. Again this is not to bash crims but to make it a little bit more reasonable and so that PD/SD radio does not become completely useless.

Agreed, I think that if people are still going to be allowed to talk, PD/SD should be given the means to locate them through their radio usage. (Much like how the FCC would be able find you if you used a ham radio). I find it unrealistic for criminal organizations to be able to purchase these devices and be able to comp PD/SD freqs and have basically zero repurcussions as it stands. It is incredibly difficult for LEO to comp a gang freq and incredibly easy for crims to get onto ours right now. It does not feel balanced nor does it feel fun to have people shit talking on what is supposed to be a secure and encrypted frequency.

If LEO were given a way to track down where jammers are located, or counteract people hacking into our radio frequency, it would be more fun. It just isn't right now. I like the idea of these new items, it's super creative and could lead to more entertaining RP, however, it seems to be the best tool to troll gov factions instead.

I believe it could be risk/reward type thing. I’m sure there’s countless times GND have listened in to gang frequencies and I can recall several instances of the detective noobing and accidentally blowing their own cover.

I believe the same would also apply to criminals, most criminals definitely wouldn’t want to risk being caught on a frequency with police when they’re not authorized to do so, I say most criminals because there are some criminals who would do it for the thrill.

I believe that voices shouldn’t be used initially to charge an individual, however it could easily lead to further investigation to be had that could lead to the individual being charged for being on an unauthorized frequency.

Thats just my two cents 🤷‍♀️

I'd rather people couldn't do it but honestly, I don't really mind them listening to the regular channel. If you wanna hear people going to the Impound or asking for an field training officer, that's your kink buddy.

That being said, knowing our player base as I know our player base, being able to transmit on the frequency is something that more often than not is going to lead to someone yelling stupid shit down the radio, as @IAmTurtle said. I'm sure there would be instances where criminals could make a play using it but those instances would likely only work on someone that has little to no experience in PD/SD.

For those of you that care about realism, most, if not all law enforcement agencies are actually making the switch to using encrypted frequencies, which makes listening very, very difficult for two reasons. One is to protect people's personal information which is often transmitted over the radio and the second, is to avoid journalists and organised crime being able to use the information for their own ends. I shit you not lol.

Listening in to a police frequency in 2024 is a little meh but you could suspend your disbelief on it. Being able to transmit though? Unrealistic and a poor game mechanic.
