Is this true?

I don’t think there’s any way to prove this but you have to remember each report made precedent. So now with out it there is not consistency. In ways it feels that 2  different reports that are 99% the same will have different outcomes do to the lack of precedent. Old reports give a chance to see how rules play out in real time and how to dictate those rules go with it.

I actualy learned a lot from the report forum, how to stay out of trouble, because i was very scared  of doing something wrong, i have only 5 warnings to my name in almost 4 years of playing because of this helpfull tool,

not only was it helpful, it was sometimes kinda entertaining aswell hehe,

One of them is the report mentality and that was fueled on the public execution style report system we had. Where people's mistakes or staff's handling of said mistakes was open for everyone to scrutinize. For what? The rules of the server are arbitrary anyway. They are whatever those people in charge decide them to be and are applied when those in charge want them to be applied. So, this idea of it should be public, it's silly.

The other culture is the doxxing culture, where some individuals in the community feel so aggrieved by certain situations going against them, they reach into people's private lives and for what, because you caught a ban on an RP server or whatever the fuck?

This is an extremely serious issue which does show the worst of our community. however hiding the forum reports section does not fix it. if anything, it makes it worse.

Reports that used to be a matter of public record for the whole community to see are no longer available. that doesn't change the fact that people (particularly the people involved in the reports and therefore still have access to them post archive) will talk. will put their own spin and own conclusions as to why what happened to them happened and circulate that around their circle of friends and acquaintances.

they will do this in DMs and unofficial discords which are impossible to moderate. and now there's no longer a record available to look at regarding it, so their word is gospel and people can no longer see the whole story and make their own conclusions.

As i said, Hiding the forum reports only fosters this culture of us vs them. we are talking about a punishment system that can lock people out of characters and accounts that they spent a significant amount of time and money into. and now interested parties can no longer look at previous reports to better inform themselves about the application of the rules. you hiding this, scares people.

When i started in this server i was not used to GTA RP, and took it upon myself to do a lot of reading on previous reports to figure out what flies and what doesn't. reports demonstrate this a lot clearer and in practice than the list of rules. fast forward to now and i have a spotless panel. not a single behavioural mark on it not so much as a warning.

I was able to do this because i had the information available to me to be informed. we are under threat of losing that.

End of the day, the application of rules in a gaming community is on an arbitrary basis. Using terms like public record is pointless, because each report is individual to the people involved in it and the situation they found themselves in. How staff choose to deal with that person ain't any of your concern or my concern for that matter.

Reports don't need to be a matter of public debate or record. What other people got punished for, outside of you being personally involved has absolutely nothing to do with you.

As for people talking, they'll do that regardless.

Hello, it’s been some time that I’ve been wanting to comment about this however I wanted to see what others think first.

1. So, when this was posted by @Dola I didn’t really agree with this at first due to the fact that people started being petty and reflecting their actions on other reports that were denied and saying “I did this because this report was denied”.

2. My opinion has changed about this and now I agree that that section should be public to others, mainly because I want other people to learn. Faction leaders have a tough time keeping track on their members about who’s being reported/punished, there might be instances where members don’t tell their command that they have been reported or punished. As a Faction they need to be able to keep track of what’s going on with their members so they can display it to their Guides, that way it would show Guides whether or not their Faction is honest.

3. However, If players still conduct actions that they’ve seen from other reports and mention it in reports that they are doing this because they saw someone else doing it “and that they got away with it”, I think they deserve a punishment just for saying that, that’s a very disrespectful comment imo and Forum Reports sections should stay how it is. I think what people don’t really see here is that no forum reports are the same, not all rule breaching scenarios/reports are the same, not all escalations are the same. Most of the times, decisions are made as a group where 95% if not 99% of us share the same opinion upon issuing a punishment or making a decision.

To sum up all of this yapping, I support this suggestion.

I was just randomly sitting on forums after I had a situation in the game where a player wanted to report me for something I’m 100% confident is the right thing to do however the player /pms me and said “Trust me I know how things work, that’s a rule break” and it made me laugh cause of the fact I know for a fact I did not breach any ECRP rules.

Long story short, I saw myself in his situation when I first joined the server and got a lot of reports denied thinking I was doing the right thing, however, after that instance, I decided to stop reporting players and instead look through the report section and see the outcome of at the time hundreds of reports each day (2020 forum report fest) and learn how to not involve yourself or even worse other people in situations where there could be a rule breach that 75% of the time causes a forum report.

Now enough yapping about my personal experiences, sorry to whoever is reading this.

I am genuinely surprised that this topic was posted in January and there hasn’t been a change ( as of today June 7th, 2024).

This is a SERIOUS issue, maybe not for 1 or 2 people but for the 98% of the community it is

There are literal staff members that can access the archived reports section whenever they want, agreeing to what Dola has posted and not only…

I've come back to the server after a 1,5-year break and I felt like a new player… I didn’t know shit and I thought “Oh I’ll just go look through some reports, let’s see what’s changed” SIKE you can’t…

Had to get some friends that were active on the server to explain everything all over again and it felt unnecessarily overwhelming.

honestly, I don’t even know why I just wrote this, it never goes through anyway.

PS: The only good adjustment to the forums was when the reactions were disabled from the forum reports section. Cause everyone was reacting :dead: to opposing parties' forum reports.

Have fun y'all!

Hey there!

As seen in the announcements channel in the ECRP Discord. player reports have become viewable to all again. If you seek more information, I'd recommend checking the aforementioned channel.

Suggestion archived.
