Enable Automated Mechanic Services Per Location

Recommended Posts

My character has ran into the problem where he is permanently blacklisted from LSC (which seems to have mechanics on duty more often), the current automated repair system of the city requires no mechanics to be on duty whatsoever to be utilized.

This has led to my character being completely unable to utilize mechanic services when an employee is on-duty at LSC but none are available at Bayview.

my suggestion would be to enable the automated services based upon location and on-duty mechanics at that place of business.

from an RP stance I find it hard to believe a business would turn off something that could earn them income when a competing business is manned.

another I hiccup I’ve ran into is when calling a mechanic using /mechanic, this request goes to bay view and LSC mechanics, when a LSC mechanic arrives and checks me against the black list he refuses services. I would suggest for this that a blacklisted customer’s mechanic request doesn’t show up for LSC or the blacklist be bypassed for /mechanic requests.

also, being able to be permanently placed on the LSC blacklist for something that cannot be proven is very damaging OOC & IC with very little counter play when the opposing party has OOC toxicity permissions and the game mechanics lock a player out of receiving repairs in particular commonly occurring situations.

Thank you for reading.

Honestly, this is an in-character issue because you chose to pursue a storyline which resulted in you getting blacklisted from LSC and you're paying the consequences for having that happen.
Why would they allow you to use an automated system if you're banned from the place anyway? From a realism perspective, automated repair stations aren't a thing, it's purely a mechanic implemented to account for those rare occasions none whatsoever are online (Because it isnt a real job so this can happen)

Another In-character issue, you know you're blacklisted so these kind of issues are the repercussions of that.
At the end of the day its an RP business and if people do things they don't like, they can ban them from using the services. Looks like you'll be Bayview's customer from now on

Your using the term “chose to pursue” pretty liberally here. I didn’t choose to get blacklisted for something that can’t be proven and the person who was used as evidence retracting their statement. The only concrete evidence the player has to use to blacklist me is my kidnap consent request which was OOC. And if you read my suggestion accurately, I’m asking for Bayview’s automated services to work when Bayview doesn’t have mechanics on duty. I am not trying to get my vehicle serviced at LSC automatically or otherwise.

you are also speaking with certainty about my actions in regards to whether or not I deserve to be blacklisted without knowing the actual details the caused the blacklist.

I also believe the automated services are there for when a player cannot get his vehicle repaired by another player due to their unavailability (ie: they are not on duty), in the case I’m referencing, there is not a single player on duty with the ability to repair my vehicle so my suggestion makes sense in my eyes and I’d be happy to consider your stance once you understand the situation fully.

Edit for clarity: The evidence used to blacklist me is me asking an employee’s girlfriend what she values in her boyfriend and what she would tell someone if his life was in jeopardy or he was at risk of being kidnapped. It was being asked to get the person being questioned to truly dig deep when considering her answer, at no point was any actual threats made nor did I follow through with any illegal actions.  Regardless, it’s an IC issue, this thread is for the automated repair services being available geographically based upon on-duty mechanics.

By saying it's IC, I meant that if the only mechanics available are at LSC, and you're banned from there, then it's an IC issue that you can't repair your vehicle. Changing the script limitation to be geographic just to get around the fact you're blacklisted isn't really the way it should go in my opinion. There's people online who scriptly can repair your vehicle or whatever, they're just choosing not to due to IC actions.

Being placed on the LSC blacklist isn't just something that happens. It requires management to process and approve the blacklist request, along with presenting evidence obtained ICly. Most notable of those is the fact that nearly all of LSC is covered by CCTV cameras and LSC management takes blacklist requests seriously. However without MG, your blacklist was temporary, however upgraded to permanent due to IC actions presented by yourself. Like DrPathetic said, your IC actions are your own, nobody forced you into doing what you did to earn yourself a temporary blacklist. And nobody definitely told you to go back and do it a 2nd time.

At the end of the day, your IC decision resulted in you being blacklisted. However, if you sit down and talk with management from LSC, I am sure if you can be mature enough, you can come to an accord with them and possibly get your blacklist reduced.

This definitely got sidetracked because I divulged too much IC information in regards to blacklisting and what not.  To condense the topic...

Bayview Mechanics on duty -> Bayview Auto Repair Station Does NOT work.
LSC Mechanics not on duty -> LSC Auto Repair Station Works

LSC Mechanics on duty -> LSC Auto Repair Station Does NOT work.
Bayview Mechanics not on duty -> Bayview Auto Repair Station Works

That's the suggestion. Thank for you coming to my ted talk.  The blacklist, IC reasons and necessary actions to fix the issue can be handled ICly.  The only reason I brought it up was because OOC Toxicity can be an approved behavior for LSC employees, which could lead to a player being blacklisted for reasons not caused by his own actions and in that case the current auto repair system could lead itself to a situation where the player, through no fault of his own, does not have access to repair services.

I completely understand if anyone disagrees with me, but this was basically to allow the devs an opportunity to fix something if it wasn't an intended result of their current mechanics, if it is already an intended result than I shall deal with this issue ICly only and no longer post about it on the Eclipse Forums.

Edit: Additional Comment: this may only affect a small subset of the server population (probably only me, lol), but if Bayview ever decides to start a blacklist than the problem (or not a problem depending on your point of view) could get larger.

This sentence stood out for me and I will do my best to explain why. Keep in mind everything I say is purely how I see it and purely meant to provide you information about my view on this.
I personally believe the automated repairs were added to give people at least some option in case the server simply would not allow a repair possibility at all (0 mechanics on-duty). Utilizing this feature means that a person repairs their car without needing an actual player that performs mechanic RP on the vehicle. From an RP stance, I personally believe this is fine when the server actually does not offer a repair possibility, but I do not believe any sort of IC situations should change this system.
A business obviously would love to earn income while not having any people working while other competitors do. However, what I believe is wrong with this is that this does not only eliminate interaction/RP, but also decreases realism and could potentially even cause people to purposely use automated repairs to just get their "quick" repairs.

I've been part of both mechanic factions during my time on the server and over all this time I do notice an increase of people putting priority in actually having their vehicle fixed script wise so they can move on than actually roleplaying this out realistically. In my eyes, such system change would be a step further in that direction. This is purely based on personal experience and I would love to see more people's opinions! 🙂
