The Cayo Perico Bridge Needs to go

I know this is going to be a controversial post, but it’s something that’s been on my mind for a while, and I think it’s worth discussing with the community as a lot of the people I know agree with me on this, but personally I think that the Cayo Perico Bridge needs to go and here’s why:

🛥️ It Kills the Need for Boats and Helicopters
One of the coolest things about Cayo Perico was that you actually needed to find a way there either by Boat or Heli. Now you can just drive over, and it makes those assets pretty much pointless.

🌍 It Breaks Immersion
A massive bridge to a supposedly secret/private island which is loosely based on the real life islands of Norman's Cay in the Bahamas which is off the coast of  Florida, it makes no sense at all that a bridge would be built there. In an RP standpoint it also doesn’t fit the vibe or lore at all, especially as its known to be the second home of the Cartel and the bridge just completely ruins that value and realism.

🐞 It's Buggy and Janky
On top of all that I'll be honest, the bridge causes more issues than it solves causing issues like glitching through the floor, texture bugs, random scuffed collisions it’s not exactly a smooth experience. I get that it was added for convenience, and I know some people like it. But in the bigger picture, it takes away from the challenge, creativity, and realism of the server. Removing it adds more life into how we interact with Cayo whether it’s smuggling, air travel, or just planning an escape or even a marriage.

🚗 I get the appeal of bringing cars to Cayo and I’m all for it
I actually really like the idea of using vehicles on the island. But the bridge isn’t the only way to do that and it’s probably the worst option. I thought of three more immersive alternatives that I think are just way better in my opinion:

  1. Rental cars on Cayo – Pay a fee to rent a local vehicle when you arrive like the city bees in the city. Also gives more of an incentive to buy VIP wink wink.

  2. Random vehicle spawns – Just like in the city, have local NPC cars spawn naturally on the island, either then having to steal them or just having the keys left in the glovebox for example depending on how hard you want it to be to obtain a vehicle on Cayo Perico.

  3. A Ferry System – Say for example you park your car at a dock (like LSIA or Vespucci), and then it becomes available on Cayo to unpark it there when you arrive for a small fee. Could be limited to one car at a time per person to keep it balanced.

These options let people use cars without breaking immersion or undermining the rest of the games mechanics.

Please note I'm just curious to what others think, and I’m not trying to start drama.

Let’s make Cayo feel like a remote island again and not just a stop on the highway!

I dont see any vallue in either keeping or removing the bridge, i think its nice to drive there to have that option but its a ghost town, if other things would be there it could be worth but that comes with the risk everyone will go to lobby there and the city running more empty,

i personaly think cayo should become the clapper zone (island in international waters) where no rules DM rules count, so for those who really wanna clapp, they can go ham over there

that’s just asking for a NHTRP ban and this is a RP server…. I’m sure you can find a server like that elsewhere.

Now I’ve only really used the bridge a handful of times. I never really had an issue with falling through it or hitboxes being weird. I’m +/- 1 on this. Sure the cargo is cool but I really hardly see people trucking anymore after the hype cooled down.

Now it would be cool to see it as international waters and have a constant lab there or a lab that opens randomly after it’s shut. EX: Opens 24 hours after it’s closed but once it’s closed again the timer is randomized to 36 hours. something along the sorts. Give the island some more use.

Yeah 100% I agree with part of what you’re saying. I’ve only used the bridge a handful of times too, and never had major bugs myself. But I think the real issue is less about the bugs and more about what the bridge represents for RP overall. The trucking update was a cool idea at first moving illegal guns and cargo from Cayo to the city sounded great on paper. But realistically, it doesn’t make much sense. If that kind of traffic was actually happening in real life over a massive bridge, PD would have checkpoints, surveillance drones, spike strips, the whole nine yards. The bridge kind of removes the whole “smuggler island” vibe that made Cayo feel unique and dangerous.

Also, like you said trucking hype died out. I barely see anyone doing those runs anymore, so now the bridge is just sitting there, ruining the immersion for everyone else. It feels like a leftover piece of a feature that no longer adds much value. And honestly, considering how long the grind is to even unlock illegal shipments we’re talking a week or more casually from level 0 to access I don’t think it’s a huge stretch to have players spawn a boat, drive to Cayo get the product and then drive back, then load up a truck from the boat. That alone would add way more depth to the process than just driving straight over like it’s another part of the mainland.

Are these 'alot of people that agree with me' in the room with us?

There wasn't a need for boats and helicopters before the bridge. There was a two week period when NBDY added in buyable boats where people bought them and maybe you get the odd ERPing couple but that is about it. The bridge didn't do anything but make the island accessible.

In an RP stand point, it's known as an idea where people go to hold events and @Lewis and GSB went to torture people (allegedly), but since that probably doesn't happen anymore, it's not a problem?

It takes away the challenge, creativity and realism of the server. Does it? The same server where someone walks around in a wolf mask making wolf noises, a criminal faction goes all Iranian embassy on City Hall on a weekly basis and DOC leaves the confines of the prison to go help law enforcement factions fight criminals.

That's not a dig at the server, it's just what we are and I get it, you don't like the bridge but I'd say that the bridge offers something different and tonally, is pretty much in keeping with the world we RP in.

Personally I have used cayo for lots of RP since the bridge was added that would not have been accessible to the character i was doing it on without the bridge.

Water physics being what they are noone really uses boats and Helicopters are 99% of the time only being used by legals.

The bridge made cayo more accessible imo

i would be so happy having a chopper, the thing that holds me back is the licence and ability to be revoked forever, not being able to use your 5 million chopper again, however I understand some people might abuse it if it was changed

Hopefully in the coming updates things will be added there, legal and illegal, to spice the island up a bit as currently it's only used for one job and as a tourist destination. I have enjoyed driving there in my off roads and exploring, but at the same time now that it is accessible it's less "exclusive", for lack of a better word. I think just wait a little and hopefully some things will get added that you might enjoy.

never will happen, they wil prevernt people from stacking there,so whatever it is that will be added,it will not be of anyone interest to go there. and that not realyt a bad thing, I don't want 270 people on an island

no disrespect but it sounds like you dont know a lot of people!!! a lot of people would disagree with you on this!

rarely saw boats being used at all before the bridge. I have a boat and I barely ever use it. Now if something gets added on Cayo where Police could block the bridge because of criminal activity, Boat usage will skyrocket. Dont know about helicopters, doesnt seeem roleplay wise smart to fly to an island or from an island when the police have blocked off the bridge because of criminal activity on the island... but yeah boats will be used A LOT

It Breaks Immersion

subjective viewpoint, i think a small minority agree with you. Everyone else and myself have their immersion boosted by this.
It is in a perfect spot. Before the bridge, there was leaks.. I thought the bridge was gonna appear somehow on the highway where it turns left. You know the 4 lane highway between the Containers and the Merryweather lab. But now that it stands more to east and and is visible from a distance(containers and merry weather lab)..  that is pretty coool!!

 It's Buggy and Janky

It is perfect. If the bridge is buggy for some, then the rest of the map also is buggy for those individuals and there are already existing solutions for this.

Rental cars on Cayo

Would not sound remote when you have rental vehicles there. Rental vehicles are for public spaces where there is a lot of points of interest around the area and not just criminal activities. But if you remove the bridge, but add labs there then also it is not neccessary. It would be a lot of planning to go cook there if there is no bridge and no rentals. People will think ahead. But let the bridge stay.

Random vehicle spawns

Not a bad idea, this would be lovely if it would come with a drug lab, chop, planting zone and so on, on the island.
Then if the bridge is blocked off, THEN the boats become useful.

Quote

A Ferry System

thats a lot of work. very ambitious. Maybe even lets add a casino and a strip club on the ferry haha, but in all seriousness no, bridge works just fine.

It is quite remote and there is no highway connected to it. You need to go off a highway to get on it. Remote means its distant from tourist usual tours. This means you dont want cayo perico at all because making it remote means, removing any possibilites of future upcoming drug labs and remove the bridge. Why delete good stuff with a lot of potential??

End note:
When I saw the title of this post, i couldnt believe my eyes. Bridge is perfect and I cant wait for more activities on Cayo Perico. Not just events. That treasure hunt event on the island was the coolest thing that Weazel and the admins thought of, props to them! Cant wait for more events but rather receive a lab, chop, planting zone and NPC cars there.
