Counter Meta Gaming

When I played Arma 2 in a realism server it was required for all people in the server to be in teamspeak or it automatically kicked them from the server. I'm not sure of the mod they were using.

It was set up that you could hear people talking up to a certain distance much like IRL and pretty much eradicated meta gaming and honestly I had some of the most immersive enjoyable gameplay I can recall.

Due to imo opinion rampant meta gaming by some.. I think if something similar to this could be implemented it would increase the RP experience of everyone.

While your idea is good, I am 100% sure that when people played on that server of yours, they could still talk on 3rd party software. There is no way for us to prevent others from using 3rd party software to metagame. There is no way to stop players from metagaming and I believe that while some people are in discord servers together, just being in there to talk isn't metagaming.

I would also like to point out, that accusation of metagaming is being thrown around to easily, people hear someone is talking out of game and they immediately accuse them of metagaming, while not considering the impact of what was said in game, if I say for example: "Lol I just killed 3 people" and it only stays at that, that isn't really metagaming in my opinon, its just some people making fun of how someone can kill 3 people. Metagaming would be if after I said that, people came to where I killed the guys and helped me get their stuff.

Well your mic had to be active, so yes you could in theory be in something else with somebody who is on the other side of the map but when you talked the person beside would hear what you say if you get what I mean. This in itself would level the playing ground for people who don't want to forced into a discord as at least you would know if they are planning to rob you etc

Yes you could use text based meta etc but it was pretty solid from my experience.

Being in a discord while playing is far too much of temptation for some play to win mentalitys. And really the views that some people have that's it's only a bit of meta is wrong imo.

And everyone has experienced people turning up "randomly" when your in a RP situation.

Not in theory, let me give you how you can actually do it. There is a software out there that allows you to emulate microphones, you would receive the sound from your microphone and split it in 2 virtual microphones, one is for the TS to be always on and one is for the 3rd party app.  You can then set that with a press of a button, the microphone to the TS lowers its gain to almost nothing, but not as low so that the TS doesn't detect it as non active, while the one on 3rd party app has the normal gain. There it is bypassed. Easy. Not in  Theory. Achievable by anyone.

I guess one way this could be done is by either opening criminal faction discords to eclipse staff members, so they can monitor it, or creating voice chats on eclipse discord dedicated to criminal groups, so that they can use it on eclipse discord and be monitored there.

The one downside to that idea @braindead is it implies that the staff would actually spend time in the voice chat. The exiled Discord has 5 admins in, including Ballin, but that doesn't mean they spend a lot of their time sat in the voice channels.

As for the Metagaming aspects of this, whilst it is true that people will be tempted to metagame if they are in a discord, they are still human beings with a free will, if they do metagame then that is their choice. Even if they weren't in discord, there are still plenty of ways people can metagame. I spend most of my time in discord when im playing, not because im doing so with the intention of metagaming, but because a lot of the people i regularly play with are my friends, not just in game friends, but actual friends, several of whom i came to Ecclipse with the express purpose of playing with them. Even if Im playing something other than Eclipse, which admittedly i dont do much of lately, i would still be sat in discord with those people, and i wouldnt really want to play if i couldnt. What i do have though is a hotkey set up to mute discord if im getting into a situation when there are multiple people online. If theres only a couple of us, and its not particularly noisy then i often wont bother, I have push to talk on for discord, so they cant hear me unless im trying to tell them something.

Thats not to say at times i havent accidentally held down in game push to talk instead of discord push to talk and vice versa, but we are all only human
