RustyOsprey2 Posted January 4 Report Posted January 4 Who is the suggestion for? This is for all players and the Staff Team. It helps anyone involved in a forum report where a staff member is involved as either the reported or reporting party. Why is the suggestion being made? Right now staff often keep their video private if it shows "Staff Chat" Only providing it to the staff member who is handling the report. This means players cannot see the evidence against them. This suggestion is being made to make the report process more open and fair for everyone, by having members of staff blur or block the chat instead. What are the pros and/or cons of the suggestion? Pros: Players can see the video evidence used in their case. It shows the community that the reporting process is honest. Players can explain their side better if they can see the full video. Staff chat stays secret because it is covered up. Cons: Staff will need a minute or two to blur or block the chat before uploading. How should the suggestion be implemented? Staff should not keep the whole video private instead they should: Put a black box or a blur over the chat area. Post the video publicly in the report, just like players have to do. This can be done easily with any basic video editor or recording software. Note: I am not fully informed on the policies and guidelines on forum reporting. But from my knowledge, the system currently works like mentioned. However, if I am wrong I do apologize.
Eliza Posted January 4 Report Posted January 4 For transparency, the reason this is currently handled the way it is comes down to the nature of in game staff chat. These chats can contain very sensitive information that, under staff guidelines, cannot be shared. This is something that is taken very seriously and is strictly enforced. As it currently stands, this is what is outlined in the Player Report Requirements: All videos and screenshots may not be edited or tampered with in any way. Video evidence must be viewable with readable resolution and screenshots must be of appropriate size to clearly see all text. Audio should be present in all videos and no evidence can be cropped. Because of this requirement, staff cannot simply blur or block portions of a video without violating the existing reporting rules. In an ideal scenario, I do agree there could be a better middle ground. A potential solution would be having two versions of the video: One version with sensitive staff chat properly censored, provided for the reported player so they can clearly see the context of the report and explain their actions, and a second, unedited version provided privately to the handling staff member so they can fully and accurately review the situation.
Aldarine Posted January 4 Report Posted January 4 Hello There When it comes to staff submitted evidence there should always be 2 versions - one that is only viewable to staff (and contains staff chat) and one that is viewable to the reported player (and has chat hidden). Players need visible context of the situation regardless of whom is reporting them be it staff or otherwise. i will make sure this is reinforced to the team in our guidelines as it may have been forgotten over time. Thank you so much for making this post! x Aldarine Head of Player Reports 1
