Right now, we have Scriptly supported cameras that you can buy at furniture stores. They work properly, you can place them, cut the wires, check footage, and so on. The issue is with the default GTA 5 map cameras. These are the ones already placed in stores or around the city. You cannot scriptly interact with them at all, but they are still being used as in-character evidence.

Example: You walk into a store, cut the wires on the script camera, and rob the place. Police show up, see the wires were cut, but then say there is also a GTA default camera in the store and use that to pull footage. You had no way to scriptly disable it or interact with it, but it still gets used against you. That does not make sense.

I understand why this was the system before. When script cameras did not exist, it made sense to rely on the map props. Same with bodycams, since those do not have script support yet. But now that we have working and interactive cameras, it feels strange that every default camera on the map still counts as active and usable.

If script cameras are the only ones players can interact with, then they should be the only ones that are valid for in-character evidence.

I understand the fact that you can simply RP breaking them. But it does not make sense to have a script to support cameras, and still expect players to RPly brake all non-script cameras around the area.

The current CCTV script is absolutely awful. It lags, skips, often misses details like weapons or vehicles and is pretty much only used to grab visual descriptions of suspects. We have to rely on roleplayed CCTV to get any level of detail but do honor when cameras are broken (Properly roleplayed destruction of bodycam and dashcams for example with proper /fdo's.)

If a camera is directly facing the area in which you are expected to provide roleplay, it should be fair game. This is a roleplay server.

I second this. Have either one of em but not both. If the CCTV script sucks then it should be fixed and bettered so that RP CCTV is not needed. Now if script CCTV is awful and wont be fixed or bettered then remove them completely and let people RP the CCTV. Having both is a hassle and confuses even experienced players and makes disabling CCTV for crims a drag. After cutting wires from the script CCTV, you're then expected to RP breaking all the non script ones and leave /fdo's to indicate so. Let's keep it a buck, probably 9/10 criminal players will think it's just annoying. RP is RP, no way around that but there are better and smoother ways to go about it.

This contradicts my experience.

I had my character jumped in a public place on Legion Square, and when I reported it - the police informed me that they couldn't do anything, because of lack of cameras/evidence. There was a camera, but it wasn't scripted - so the police officer told me that it couldn't be used, because it wasn't scripted, despite me having OOC evidence video footage of the attack.

Can someone clarify to me how exactly this is supposed to work? Are non-scripted public cameras allowed to be used as IC evidence, if I have the actual OOC evidence?
