Development will not aid a mentality problem; updates should not be the reason why you're on a roleplay server, they will never be able to put up enough updates to satisfy script-oriented people. Make your own fun, preferably with friends and you will not need updates to enjoy your time here.

I frequently roleplay to the best of my ability on a daily basis. It becomes increasingly difficult with a dwindling playerbase. "Script-oriented people" makes it sound like we shouldn't expect any script support in a video game. Especially a lighter RP server like Eclipse compared to some others where money is acquired typically through senseless grinding.

If there was ways to acquire money through purely roleplay, I'd be all for it. Sadly there is no such system in place. Bit of a tangent, but. I hope you get the point!

  2. As far as I can tell, player counts are at the lowest they've been in a long, long time. My personal opinion that this is from the perceived inattention from the two developers we have at the moment. I've said it before and I will say it again, the current developers either need to dedicate more of their time to the server or we need more developers.

A consistent stream of even small updates makes people hopeful they're heard and can rely on an evergrowing, everchanging server to play on.

Speaking from experience in copyright infringement, there is a lot of the script that we don't see as players. The value isn't so much in the way it's optimized, but in the way it works. A potential rogue developer could easily steal the code, make aesthetic or stylistic changes, and present itself as original. Even an Eclipse knockoff would be better than any RAGE based competing server, and its existence would be an inherent threat to ECRP's interests. The concern is justified in this sense, sure it seems so simple to say it's paranoid but it's not wrong for the devs to be protective. It's intelligent property with intrinsic value. I think the only option that addresses this issue is the idea of an investor developer. An agreement that compensates the developers for the code upfront, and in return allows the third party investor an interest in the project. The current devs would retain rights as 1/3 interest, with options to buy out one or more of the other parties if desired.

There would be people interested in doing that deal, but they are probably content with current profits.

I can understand this in some ways, and I understand that aesthetic/visual changes can exist but like I said. Who can afford the sunken cost to run all this infrastructure and try and rebuild a community with even a fraction of the numbers Eclipse has? There's also the cost benefit analysis at how much are you willing to inhibit your own product to keep your rather small trusted team in line? There's people like @Bala who have dedicated time to creating entire features that can easily be ported into their codebase, but to no effort from the development team in doing so seemingly.

Honestly all they need to do is hire like 1-2 more devs who can work on smaller projects (bug fixes, QOL, etc.) while the main 2 work on the big ones, they could also just make a testing server where at a certain time the server is open for 1-2 hours where people like donators or staff could go play and game test the update and give feedback

This. But for who knows what reason the developers are adamantly against bringing anyone else onboard, fearing leaks. If something leaks, who's going to have the infrastructure to run it? And if they do run it, it's obviously ripped from Eclipse. And Eclipse will retain its players. It's a false fear. But I digress.

It's a balance, the reason I think a bunch of people have been annoyed is there's 2-3 large updates going on at once in the background. Back when there was 1 big thing being worked on in the background and smaller more frequent changes and QoL things were added people seemed very satisfied. I think that's the sweet spot to aim for.

Yeah. This. The drug, gun update, etc. Have all been teased but delayed seemingly to work on another. I say this because I can understand getting tired of working on the same update, but it results in nothing getting out the door and large delays between updates. I think this is the best approach.

  6. While I can understand the desire to push large, significant updates with a team of non-fulltime two developers this is extremely difficult to do and has shown. Updates takes months and months and get delayed for longer. I'd much rather be drip fed smaller updates where things can be ironed out over time than months of polishing on a huge one.

Just looking for thoughts from the community!

    Updated/merged thread here.

I don't think that going back to the Pier is a good idea, the popularity of the pier happened naturally.

I mentioned some time ago about the implementation of the Los Santos Mall and as far as I'm aware, that's still the plan in the future so that should be quite the meeting point, a little more organically than the Pier given what there would be to do there.

When are we going to get the mall? Years down the line? I've treated every promise of updates from the development team with tempered expectations for a while and it seems to have worked out. I don't think we can rely on the development team to fix the hangout problem in the meantime.

I’ll just jump in here and say we do hear you and we do listen. I appreciate not knowing is the worst thing, but I can assure you lots of change is on the horizon.

A key example is that we currently have a chat dedicated to criminal roleplay changes. This chat consists of criminal faction leaders and historically notable criminal role players with a direct point of contact with the dev team. Here discussions have been ongoing to make the criminal role more rewarding, fun and interactive.

Last night we had a long management meeting discussing most points made in that chat and have agreed to implement, develop and change a long list of points to achieve the above goal.

I also must note that we recently had the highest intake of server applications since after the COVID lockdowns resulting in higher concurrent player counts - but don’t worry as we are not being complacent with that, we aim to capitalise on it by giving all players new and old a reason to stay.

    We hear you.

There's some points here that I'd like to touch on but I think that's better suited for another thread. But as a player who quit and has tried to come back a couple times now, it's always frustrating to hear "It's coming, it's coming." e.g; The drug update. I'd much rather consistent, small bites of updates than these huge updates that are consistently delayed.

As the previous two said, this is the natural cycle of communities. There's always gonna be old timers who stick around, but most won't regardless of quality or changes. Can you please provide constructive feedback past "change something" so we can further identify what you're trying to focus on? I'll relay feedback up the chain.

The points of lack of communication and inconsistent development have been brought up numerous times to no avail.

  10. I'm more than okay with small, bite sized updates continuously. But time and time again the development team have shown they cannot do this. They push a massive update, with a few bug fix updates to follow and then go silent for months on end. I'd much prefer consistent updates overtime that introduce features bit by bit. It allows for patches, hotfixes, adjustments to be made without throwing everyone for a spin. We need more communication.

EDIT: Also, both legal and illegal factions are painful to start. Extremely painful. The economy is in absolute turmoil, property prices are sky high. It just sucks.
