  1. That would be awesome if there could be an area for it (meaning commendations) because I think it would be nice for both staff and players. There are times where I feel like a thank you just doesn't do it justice. That way when any staff member had a particularly bad situation or it tested their patience they can come to that section to see how many people really appreciate what you all do!
  2. I'm honestly on the fence about this idea. It would be a huge change as others have said.. it's an interesting thought and honestly feels like a great idea for another server. Something along the lines of ECRP Civil War. If there was significant amount of RP that happened that caused this sort of divide between the two parts of the map, that would be very cool. I just don't know how it would work exactly.
  3. I think this is essentially the problem with ECRP at times. You literally hit the nail on the head. Build around the good players and people will stay because they enjoy the RP brought about by those players. Just... this on so many levels hits home and is a mood.
  4. If this already exists, please tell me so I can write something beautiful about an admin that helped me today. I have had the best experiences with some admins over my time in ECRP... and some of the worst. There are some that go out of their way to help others and be just absolutely amazing all around. I would love to be able to write an essay (as that's pretty much what I'm known for at this point... teeheee) about how great these people are for everyone to see. For instance, Pixiejewels is always quick to respond and give a fair answer. She looks at both sides of an argument before deciding her decision and then makes a decision based off of that. Has she always ruled in my favour? No. However, I never walk away feeling slighted. I would say Aleks is the same way as well. On the flip side, if there was an area for complaints... you might start to see a trend where certain admins abuse power, rule on their own situations, or answer friends reports so that the outcome favour their friend. Of course, not every complaint would be warranted, but it would be good for you all to know who is complained about more than others... because honestly... there might be some truth there. I'm not saying the complaints have to be seen by the public, but it would be nice for the commendations to be seen.
  5. Oh trust me @AbsoluteBadonkers I have seen the flip side, meaning yes I have seen where guards just ignore prisoners. My character specifically goes out of her way to bring food and water to prisoners as well as pickaxes because I know how hard it is for crims in there. I understand not all guards are like this and my character may be an anomaly, but I am hoping to change things by being the change I want to see in DOC. I think this can go both ways. Meaning... prisoners spend less time afk in DOC and more time trying to interact with guards, as well as guards doing the same.
  6. I agree with 99% of what you've said. However as someone who plays on a DOC character and loves it... I would argue that half the time I have a problem with getting people in prison to interact with me... or follow server rules. I try to play music or do charades or play movies or whatever it is at the time, but half the people are tabbed out and/or afk and won't even speak when spoken to. Not only that... but people feel that FRP just doesn't exist in prison, which I get that they're going to be there regardless of whether or not I taze them... but it should still hurt and they should still not want to feel it... unless their character is weirdly into that sort of thing... and hey... no kink shaming here... just saying... I've sat there with someone during their entire prison sentence and they mentioned how they actually enjoyed prison. I think the problem with prison right now is the assumption that it will be boring so you just have to sit there AFK and get it over with. I agree the fines are way too much and should be halfed AT LEAST, if not even more. Fines don't take into account that most people have to pay for their car to be unimpounded as well... It's just more money after more money and more of a senseless grind. I agree with everything else you said pretty much. I just wanted to comment on this one thing. Overall @Commander783 this is a beautiful post with great commentary on freelance jobs as I feel you basically hit the nail on the head with your assessments. I'd also like to mention the suggestions made by @FatherOsborn. When it comes to the trucking job, not only would getting random orders be nice, but also bonus pay for those with their own trucks vs. renting. There should be a fee to rent the truck as people who own their own trucks have to service them and fill them with petroleum. Also, it should not take so long to do petroleum jobs. The money vs time spent does not add up. I quit trucking on my character when I spent almost 30+ minutes waiting for my tank to fill only to c0 from the server and come back to nothing. When it comes to the coroner job: there's already bodies that show up at roadworker sites, why not just put an auto call to coroners when something happens so they can clean up the bodies? More RP for all!
  7. Did I say it was their fault? I said this is a Government allowed monopoly, which it is. It is also a scriptly allowed monopoly. As anything else that tried to compete WOULD NOT OFFER THE SAME SERVICES, making Weazel, still a monopoly. I can create a new Weazel all I want, but I cannot post ads the way they can, I cannot offer the same services Weazel can by way of blips or putting their story in the newspaper that anyone can buy at a general store. So literally it is impossible to create competition as you cannot offer the same services. Does this not make sense?
  8. Like I stated multiple times. The owner of MPT would only talk about how his business was failing every time my character spoke to him in game. It is very easy to sit on the sidelines and say "be the change you want to see". It is another story to actually have to do it. Did you ever talk to him to see how hard it was for him to do everything he did? Do you understand how hard and how much money someone has to dump into a business like that before they could even see an inkling of gain? And even then, they'll probably still lose money on ads, blips, salaries for employees, and other business costs.
  9. There are laws in the United States, which is where Los Santos is supposed to be located, that prevent these types of things. "The antitrust laws prohibit conduct by a single firm that unreasonably restrains competition by creating or maintaining monopoly power. Most Section 2 claims involve the conduct of a firm with a leading market position, although Section 2 of the Sherman Act also bans attempts to monopolize and conspiracies to monopolize. As a first step, courts ask if the firm has "monopoly power" in any market. This requires in-depth study of the products sold by the leading firm, and any alternative products consumers may turn to if the firm attempted to raise prices. Then courts ask if that leading position was gained or maintained through improper conduct—that is, something other than merely having a better product, superior management or historic accident. Here courts evaluate the anticompetitive effects of the conduct and its procompetitive justifications." "a "monopolist" is a firm with significant and durable market power" I would consider Weazel and DCC to be a monopoly as there is no current alternative that offers the same thing. If Weazel raises prices where do you place ads? If Weazel blacklists you where do you place ads or blips? If DCC blacklists you, how do you get a ride when no friends are online?
  10. Right, but it's not that way anymore. So anyone who wants to do that same thing... would be already at a big disadvantage. All I'm asking is that you see the flip side of things. Yes, you can make these things, as it is possible without a script. However... most will just go to Weazel. As we've seen with MPT, people did come to MPT (such as myself because I really love the RP) but the AVERAGE player just sticks to Bayview or LSC. Once they had the ability to actually repair cars, you would see more and more people show up, but even then I still would hear from MPT's business owner about how it's failing. The average player on this server is not a heavy RPer. The average player is a medium to low RPer.
  11. My last post did not give enough of an explanation as it was archived, so let me try to explain with greater detail. With the implementation of people being able to start/own their own business with more and more availability, why only have an OOC place for businesses? Legal scripted jobs have the Government website, but there's no place for just the average business to hold an online presence. I would not consider this an advertisement, but a company website of sorts. The "Marketplace" tab doesn't really do it justice as it is used for everything from people selling properties, items, to businesses. Problems this would fix/examples: Someone want to create a company that competes with Weazel. Currently, they have no place to post their newspaper that can be viewed by the public. This does not fall into any category under the IC business section. Someone wants to post about their company, give information on it such as the logo, motto of the company, basic information on where to find it, what it does, etc. Someone wants to post about their non-profit, events that it holds, ways to get involved, volunteer opportunities Kellie designs art. If there was a section where she could post about her business people could leave reviews, she could update customers on the status of her business, etc. etc. The orphanage that Pierce Hardy and Melissa Hall applied for wouldn't be able to post in Advertisements... but if there was a business section/non-profit area, they could. I could go on, but I hope that you understand my point.
  12. Do you not see the difference? If someone started a competing business now. There would be no newspaper for them. No place to post their articles. No ads they could run except for in their own publications, which wouldn't be able to be posted anywhere. You're missing the point of the post. It's not to get apart of the factions. It's to create competition in the city for monopolies that exist.
  13. Problem: Currently places like DCC and Weazel are able to operate completely free of competition. For any individual to try to enter into competition with them by creating their own business through the property request system, they would still require script help to function. This means that these businesses can operate, treat, and blacklist customers how they would like without fear of repercussions because scriptly no other business like theirs can exist. Solution: How it could work... For DCC competition: create a ride sharing application similar to a freelance job, where people can get on the job and will get notifications if someone needs a ride. Much like roadworker, tollbooth, etc. you pick up the job Another person would /gooberlift need a ride here please. got one person plus myself. The driver would type /af or /acceptfare then the ID of the fare. For example: /af 102 For Weazel: allow people to post their own ads, however they wouldn't be able to make bulks and would have to be online to do it. That would be the difference between something like LangleysList over Weazel. How it could work.... /placeadvertisement Selling maxed paragon for $420,069. SMS for details 420-6969. How it would look in game... [LangleysList] Selling maxed paragon for $420,069. SMS for details 420-6969. Pro's -Allows for competition -Allows for those who have been blacklisted to still use the server scripts -Server rules would be created for what ads can and can't be created, so it does matter who you are. If you ad is within server rules, it will be run. Con's -LangleysList wouldn't allow for bulks -Possible increase in forum reports due to ads/admin time taken up by regulating ads. -No way to pick/set your own fare for GooberLift -No "boss" to talk to about employee complaints at GooberLift or LangleysList
  14. With the implementation of people being able to start/own their own business with more and more availability, why only have an OOC place for businesses? Legal scripted jobs have the Government website, but there's no place for just the average business to hold an online presence. This is an easy fix: simply make a place for businesses to post ICly on the forums. Essentially... Problem: No IC locations for businesses to send out information. Solution: Have an IC business part of the forums. Located here.

  16. What are Community Meetings? Community Meetings are a way for the civilians to stay connected with the Governmental Bodies of Los Santos. As a citizen of Los Santos, I believe the San Andreas Government should hear all of the likes, dislikes, and suggestions that the public has when it comes to policy changes, government jobs, or matters of the law. Being that civilians pay for all things government to run, these (hopefully) monthly events are held in order to introduce members of the government/new policy changes to the people as well as engage with them in order to fix what doesn't work. They will go on for an hour to two hours at most. During the town hall meeting, whomever (typically me! Olivia Valentine) is leading the meeting will take 5-10 minutes to briefly introduce the changes that have been made since the last meeting. For example, I may summarize the press releases, important announcements or events that have happened since the previous Community Meeting. Once concluded the floor will be opened up to the public to voice their likes, dislikes, concerns and suggestions. Following the meeting, I will summarize and post the notes here so that all will be aware of what our goals are. The hope is that we can change the city for the betterment of everyone: legals, illegals and civilians alike!
  17. Yeah, the OP is correct. It does pull 100% when you get salary. Also I think there should be an option to just not pay your debt at all. People literally do that all the time IRL. This is coming from someone who literally doesn't have any debt on any characters. I just think it should be an option.
  18. I would agree with this wholeheartedly, however there have been multiple times where admins have stopped situations that all people have agreed to OOCly and are enjoying themselves because "you cannot agree to have your character be DM'd". People have received warnings and punishments for this. For instance, Chatty the clown used to kidnap people and take him to his fun house. The understanding OOCly for all involved was that you may die when you go there, but the RP that was had was more than worth it. However, we still had Aldarine pop up and tell people they could not be there or give consent to be DM'd as it breaks the FRP rule. This is just one example of this happening, although it has happened more than once. I don't know how you were able to do it when you were RPing as a serial killer, as I feel it would fall under the same thing as "you cannot agree to get DM'd". However, that's another problem entirely as all admins do not treat everyone equally. Not that like there aren't mostly great admins, just that we are human and favour our friends over those we have no personal connection to.
  19. I am guessing you're assuming I play a criminal then? I do not. I stay legal on my characters and only dabble here and there into illegal roleplay. Irregardless, you do not know me or my characters that I play, so please do not judge or assume. Your whole post is based off this one sentence, which based off of my IRL experiences is just not true. You need to understand that people have different life experiences and that there are a LOT of people IRL who treat other people as if they're disposable. You don't always "leave a lot of traces for murdering someone" do you realise there are thousands of cold cases for murder that go unsolved in the "Western World" each year? And that only around 60% of them are solved? That means that each time someone kills someone they have about a 50% chance to be caught... IF the police are notified. This is an overall server issue where people abuse NLR. It should not apply to this as we're talking about a change in the DM ruling. I also believe this goes both ways in that LEO's have to value criminals/injured lives as much as they value their own, but they don't. Criminals also need to stop stalling RP just to avoid going to jail and paying the fees. However, I don't think that's ever going to really stop as we are all humans behind the screen and none of us are perfect. I have never seen this "serial killer" mentality, but I do think the whole "you snitch to cops, you die" is a bit crazy as legal citizens don't have a gang to turn to for protection if they call cops. They're just on their own and typically LEO's aren't willing to stick around to protect you when they could be doing something more fun. Your response is sweet in that you clearly try to see the best in people IRL. However I think it would be fun to see something like a "spree killer" or a "serial killer" appear in ECRP. The LEO investigation RP would be so cool, and I'm sure the criminal would have fun as well. This requires more in depth RP on BOTH sides of the fence. LEO's need to care when they get a call about a dead body and not just throw it out. Actually looking around and trying to investigate LIKE IT WAS SOMEONES PRECIOUS LIFE THAT WAS JUST TAKEN. However, that is not the case as most times when my characters or someone close to them calls 911 to report a dead body or something of that nature, they just tell you to call the corner and drive away. This is a server issue in that no one views dying as that big of a deal. ON. BOTH. SIDES. LEGAL. AND. ILLEGAL. No one views dead bodies on the ground as an issue. Sometimes people will just leave them there to sit and ignore it. As someone who loves civilian roleplay and has done that for most of my time on ECRP, this is how I feel. (since apparently I have to state what I RP)
  20. I think it's time for ECRP rules to start gaining a little bit of maturity. I think this is a step in the right direction as it allows for greater types of RP, I don't think the OP wants it to be a killing fest all the time, but to give the community a chance to commit murder without having to somehow "create escalation" (which is completely in the eyes of the beholder) by way of letting the person know they're being targeted. It makes almost no sense to let the person know they're being hunted IRL, but I find as I read over DM reports again and again I see staff saying things like "leave a threatening note"/ "text them with threatening text" as a way to continue escalation... In what world, do you want to let the person you are hunting know you're hunting them? Not just that, but a new definitely of the DM rule might allow for people to KILL SOMEONE WHO IS TESTIFYING AGAINST THEM as this is literally the same as A REPORT TO THE POLICE as it could carry the same weight and should not need more "escalation" than that. There's a reason why witness protection exists IRL...

    Police

I didn't even know everything in your post went on behind the scenes in law enforcement... That's kinda awesome. However, I wanted to agree and expand on this comment as well. It's not just IC consequences people are concerned about. It's also OOC consequences: if you don't do something at, what someone else considers, the right time and place.

Big +1. This is a super amazing idea.

Clearly you didn't read what I said, so let me repeat it "It is completely possible for a helicopter to follow a car without the need of 5+ cops behind it at all times. In ECRP." One to two cop cars do not make 5+ cops. I am talking about LIMITING the amount of cars in a pursuit. Not removing them all together.

    A. Where is the statistic that states most people evade in their own vehicle? Or are you just saying this? B. That's false. Please read what this states below about not following pursuits and giving up. It states "it is POSSIBLE that the pursuit will be reestablished" and that "in most cases, if an apprehension is not made quickly and at a reasonable speed the MOST INTELLIGENT ACTION for the officer is to discontinue the pursuit". C. It is completely possible for a helicopter to follow a car without the need of 5+ cops behind it at all times. In ECRP. D. "people only go to their house to store/withdraw weapons in addition to excessively sharing vehicles with no thought about damage" I believe this would be considered NRP and shouldn't be used as a reasoning to not behave as officers would IRL. Just cause someone else breaks immersion doesn't mean you should too.
