Any PVP-related game modifications should be against the rules
tuccci replied to alexalex303's topic in Rules Suggestions
+ 1 if you want more RP and less PVP, ban people who prioritize PVP over RP. Reward people who RP instead of PVP. Current systems reward the opposite. -
Reduce All criminal charges sentence length by at least HALF.

"We" is a little unfair, as plenty of people choose roleplay over PVP. Believe it or not, plenty of people who evade with a gun don't get out and shoot it as soon as the vehicle stalls, and most people aren't kitted out with 2 guns, Kevlar, and crack when they are finally caught. From a roleplay perspective, you'd have to play a pretty reckless criminal to say "welp, I'm going to jail, may as well get shot by 6 cops 15 times while I'm at it" Alex has equal on both approx. -

I'm on the fence about this. On one hand, I agree with Alex, over the years, we've gotten a lot softer on the sentencing for criminals, I'm sure people who used to do 12 hours, and had to do so online, thought hard about how they would execute their crimes, considering the massive consequences that it might entail. The idea that PVP occurs because people know they're already at max time is silly. People RARELY consider their consequences until after the fact. People PVP because it's what they want to do; other people RP because it's what THEY want to do, they aren't having their hands forced by the mathematics of the penal code. I really think that even if we capped prison at 1 hour, people would still complain about it, and PVP just as much (50% more actually now that they're in prison less time) probably because at the end of the day, if you want to play some drug dealer simulator, Prison Simulator doesn't scratch that itch. You're never going to be happy with getting arrested or going to prison, unless it's something you set out to do. On the other hand - Doing the job properly, or extending arrest or questioning RP, is seen as some sort of OOC punishment. So I could feel less bad about this if the charges were a bit shorter, I really doubt it though, reducing charges will make the arrest the longest part of IC punishment, so I doubt people will be looking to extend it further. I'd also technically get to arrest people 50% more often, as someone could fit 2 prison stays into a 2-hour gaming session rather comfortably. Most importantly Snitch for less time -
Staff led street races. I think if we want to get away from PVP, we've got to put something else in the forefront. Maybe the cartel could host nightly street races. They'd need to be organized by vehicle type so that certain vehicles didn't dominate the track. IE: Elegy races every Monday, D5 races Tuesday, etc. Giving people something to do besides PVP is important. LABS Maybe the problem is that "Those guys are holding a lab" is the green light for PVP. Once you've got numbers, all you need to do is walk up the the lab and make demands to the people inside and BOOM. You've got yourself some PVP, almost completely devoid of any narrative or story. When we made holding a lab with heavies ( with the reward for doing so being access to heavier weapons down the line), the cornerstone of criminal roleplay, we made a PVP game of King of the Hill the cornerstone of criminal roleplay. At this point, the massive lab system props up PVP culture. Unless rules are implemented to stop people from PVPing each other for the sake of holding labs, PVP will continue to be at the forefront of lab activities, with roleplay taking a backseat. Players At the end of the day, there are people who really prefer PVP at labs over immersive roleplay. I'd love it if when I went to Jamestown, there were gang members hanging around smoking blunts and mean-mugging me, that'd be sick. But I don't expect them to do something that's not fun to them. Murder or bank robbery is 100x more common on our server than DUI. This is because drinking and driving (ICLY of course) is the epitome of roleplaying. You have 0 to gain from drunk driving in-game; drinking doesn't really make playing your character fun or easy, so people who decide to drink and drive are doing so for full RP value and immersion. Pulling an ATM out of a wall is very similar - you've got about a 95% chance to get caught, but its a pretty funny ass thing to do, and say you've done ICLY. Some people just prefer to play it more as an MMO, with RP taking a back seat.

The fact of the matter is if you give people the choice between a car that goes 240, and picking a car that fits their character/lore, most people will pick the vehicles that take W's. I don't hate re-adjusting the prices, but it would cause a situation where people who already have these vehicles make bank on the market changing.I'm not a dev but this would also take A LOT of work compared to restricting speed across the board. But also, you're right, this WOULD have 0 on people who already have meta vehicles. What is the ultimate goal of this suggestion? Disrupting stagnant meta that revolves around going 240. You can make the vehicles cost more, but people will likely do what they do now, just wait till they have enough money for a 240 vehicle, while driving an off-road motorcycle or BMX to evade police in the meantime. Some questions I think people ought to ask when thinking about this suggestion- Does anyone need to go to 240 to enjoy themselves? Is there a reason to go 240 besides trying to escape the ops/cops?
-
This would fix the D5 issue. But it wouldn't do anything for the multitude of cars that don't get used because they aren't meta.
-
I think it's important to remember that going 240 is easier than ever. Cars like the D5 are extremely affordable (Around 250K) This kinda of blows the "It takes a lot of grinding/hard work to get a car that goes that fast" out of the water. The D5 invalidates 100s of vehicles in this way. Why spend big money on a Comet/VSTR/ any other fast vehicle when you can get the same for cheaper? Why spend extra money to roleplay when you can win for cheaper?

Bold of you to speak for "Most people," especially on a roleplay server lmao. It's hard to think that the driving force to play a role-playing game is "achievements." It's kinda unfair to the people you've spent 1000s of hours roleplaying with. I'm pretty sure you played the game with them because you like them, not because anyone would reward you for playing the game with them, or because you thought maybe you'd get a T20 out of it. And I hope you've enjoyed the time you've spent with your friends roleplaying. It's EXTREMELY easy to take for granted the social aspect of the server and RP in general. But that's kinda off topic innt. This is about capping the speed to 200.

Is the implication that the only difference between any two vehicles is how fast they go? 20 million dollar super cars are 20 million dollars because they are typically 1 of 1, or the amount of them is otherwise limited. At the end of the day, Roleplay isn't about achievement, it's about enjoyment, if the only way you can enjoy the game is by going 240, I honestly am not here to shit on that. The idea is that by capping the speed at 200, you'd have a myriad of vehicles that are just as suitable for pursuits as the 1 of 1 supercars that only a small fraction of the server own. Would this lower the value of 1 of 1 vehicles? or any vehicle that goes 240 right now? of course it would. Would it increase the value of MANY more vehicles? I think it would.
-
So here the thing, because it exists, because it goes 240, you sort of HAVE to use it to respond to a gang shootout like you said. You almost make it sound like you don't want to use it. If you give people a W button, they will press it. You even explain that because the Niobi is so fast, when you want to actually RP, you've got to get a different vehicle. You've got to break away from the RP that makes the most immersive sense for you(low riders cholo type shit), and get into a Niobi. - I think that sucks ass. wouldn't;t ito be sick to take the lower rider to the shoot out? Wouldn't it be sick if the vehicles in Factions threads existed outside of those threads? Or you didn't have to pretend shit like an "Issi Sport" is somehow part of your lore? The amount of expensive high-end vehicles that don't get used because they don't keep up with Jugulars and D5s creates a very stale landscape as far as cars seen in the city.

We should lower the speed cap on the server from 240 KPH to 200 KPH. This would completely upend the current meta, and allow people to use 100s of vehicles that almost never see use because they aren't meta enough to outrun cops or the opps. "What about highspeed? What about Air 1? You want us to hold L's Dale" bro, if everything tops out at 200, we can look at not using a high speed, or even changing protocols around when to deploy AIR 1. Current deployment policy reflects the 240 KPH culture. "But Dale, what about my Niobe/Itali GTO/meta car? I paid for it" Listen, no one who EVER purchased a Niobe/Italia/Meta car did so because it's a faster-than-average car. They did it because they love roleplay, baby! Accusing these people of driving a car JUST because it outruns every other car on the server is unfair, people who drive these cars are GREAT roleplayers, who drive the car for LORE reasons. These cars will also go 200,(I imagine they'll still out-accelerate most vehicles) but you won't HAVE to drive them to get away from LEOS anymore, as many cars can hit 200, while few can hit 240.

Nothing massive BUT. If we made it so that everything in the furniture stores' "Jewelry" tab sells to the pawn shop for 100% value instead of 60% This would allow people to establish physical stashes for assets. If someone has debt? Pay them in 2 gold bars and let them go to the pawn shop. Gold is the future.
