What rule policy to expect from ECLIPSE Roleplay?

ECLIPSE Roleplay

The ECLIPSE Network community had a few discussions and made a lot of speculations about the rules and expected roleplay level of our server. First of all, the development team views the server as a plain roleplay server and does not classify it as Light, Medium or Hardcore. As we develop, our primary objective is to introduce features that are fun, practical and balanced. We also try to keep our features realistic, but this is a game and that's not always the best solution, immersion is also important and it will be included where possible, but player choice of action will not be limited by the general server rules.

What level of roleplay can I expect from Eclipse Roleplay?

At this point, you may expect a light level of roleplay enforcement within the general playerbase and light to medium level of roleplay enforcement within government factions, which are going to have their own roleplay policies that will be more strict and will be enforced by faction managers, not server administrators. Commercial and criminal factions will be owned and fully managed by players which means they can set their own roleplay policies from none to hardcore.

What roleplay rules are going to be enforced by administrators?

No Random Deathmatch will be our main rule, as every player must have a valid in-character reason to kill another person. NLR and revenge killing rules are also going to be enforced. Metagaming will not be allowed, but it will be enforced by our scripts where we see it necessary (ex.: police officers working undercover will have no indicators of their true occupation).

Do I have to engage in roleplay with other players?

You do not. You may only be punished by the leader of your faction, if your faction enforces any kind of roleplay rules, but you will not get kicked or banned by administrators. Avoiding roleplay may sometimes be counted as resistance (ex.: running from a robber, not complying with a police officer) and can give another player a valid reason to kill or arrest you. In other cases, we will try to force roleplay from a scripting perspective (ex.: 'fear roleplay' does not need to be faked, because if we have a death penalty or other undesirable consequences, the player might be genuinely afraid of resisting or dying).

Will I be able to roleplay using text chat?

You will. But you need to remember that our server is based on voice chat. This means that if you are in a critical situation (ex.: some kind of exchange of shots) you are going to be in a disadvantage, since you are not going to be able to write out to the text chat as fast as to say it in the voice chat.
