ChatGPT

I think we know what I'm about to talk about. If you don't, it's the blatant use of ChatGPT or other AI writing models to write entire paragraphs to showcase character/faction RP.

Listen, I don't mind the use of them to help people make their stories/bios a little more captivating by using words that might not be in their vocabulary or maybe to help them make better use of the English language if they aren't a native speaker.

But seeing entire walls of text that are just so painfully copy pasted from a small prompt that was thrown into an AI writing app is just not worth reading in my opinion, and quite frankly is a spit in the face to all of the amazing posts from insanely creative people that have been writing stories for years or even the people writing their stories for the first time.

I feel this recent trend is only going to grow as people see others doing it, then decide 'why should I put all this effort when these others aren't' and we lose all creativity within these stories.

I don't quite know where the line should be drawn, but I hope staff can find that line, as I believe a line is certainly needed.

(this is not a dig at anyone or any faction in particular, I just won't be reading any of them personally which is a shame as I enjoy reading story posts and appreciate them.)

Perhaps staff don't want to police people's posts, which honestly is understandable.

But I hate the idea of less and less people putting full effort into their stories and posts.

The argument might be 'If you don't want to read AI posts, then don't.'

I'd reply with 'If you don't have the mind/creativity to think of and write stories, then don't write them.'

As mentioned, it's a powerful and helpful tool to liven up otherwise boring blocks of text. But it should be used as what it is meant to be, a tool rather than a post generator.

It almost has the opposite effect when people upload blatantly GPT-generated faction posts, like OP said, it also discourages me from reading it.

Not sure what the course of action would be after a warning, but I think cracking down on the overly blatant GPT posts would increase the quality of posts greatly.

It may even encourage factions to participate in and create diverse roleplay opportunities to showcase to the community.

In a server such as ours which is voice roleplay, the function of text in RP is somewhat secondary. It's not what you type, it's what you say.
I'd much rather have a good interaction with a faction in game, than see them posting stuff on their faction threads but that's nothing to do with me.
It just does feel a bit like, who are they posting those threads for?

I think if people want to use ChatGPT to generate certain things, then fair enough.

The reason why we don't allow it in the LSPD for applications and such, is more due to us using it as an indicator of your ability to role-play. I'm not sure that many people stick to a character story on Eclipse, at least not to the point where their own personal lore is a driving factor in what they do every day.

I agree more-or-less with that sentiment where in the grand scheme of things, it is somewhat secondary & I think most people would prefer to have a great interaction in-game.

But seeing that the requirement for non-official factions is to have an active thread, I feel as though it goes hand-in-hand with maintaining quality RP both in-game (VOIP/text).

If non-official factions need to keep up an active (and quality) thread, official factions should be held accountable for having good threads, even more so.

The requirement to have a faction thread constantly maintained in order to become official is what drives this. AI and AI generated posts aren't the problem. It's simply become a box that needs to be checked rather than an optional place to post stories, and due to this people will look for the quickest and easiest way to check that box.

i just dont think enough people care about it en tough to even read them, I rarely ever read them, I think its cool to see what some gangs are up to, but that's it, I would much rather see a daily post uploaded with small text, like some Instagram story, than this entire blog where half of the RP is made up and did not actually even happen. just to upkeep for being an official gang, I think in official gangs some things need change aswell since it became very repeated and stale, but that's an other issue, I think if they want to use chat gpt it would be still more exciting, then, some people would write themselves, and that includes me, I can't write for shit, so the likelihood you will finish my posts is 0 anyway XDXD.
