-1. I truly think that you should be making a new character if you want to be part of multiple groups.

    I don't support this.

I feel that while flexibility and choices are great tools on a server, I just cannot see enough instances where this makes sense.

Case and point, my primary faction has always been LSPD but from time to time, I've joined DCC on that character. Looking at that, it doesn't really make much roleplay sense for an LSPD Officer to be driving a cab. The same could apply for Weazel or LSC. Like what, I'm going to hunt bad guys during the day then take a break and go work on an engine?

I feel that the server will always need extra things to do, but I think in terms of us focusing on our characters, doing one thing and focusing on that makes the most sense.

Both of these just come off as supporting 1-dimensional characters. It makes sense to me that PD players don't see the need for this because PD consumes so much of your character's time for any kind of progress. As a high command member of LSC AND a member of the business licensing bureau, I am unable to join a hobby faction like Burnout or LSMC, or in my unique case, will have to choose to drop one of these two jobs if the faction that I'm working on making official gets there. How do you justify an IC reason to quit a job when it's literally just because the script prevents me from being in more than 2 F4 menus?

Characters shouldn't be limited to just 1 core drive and deserve to have fun on the side while also indulging in their core drives.

Some people don't want to dedicate time to an entire second or third character. As I suggested, I think you should be limited to two gov jobs but be able to join a third faction outside of the gov positions, which would allow for people to join the civilian/hobby factions.

You're correct, what you described would be very unrealistic; however, that's not how I feel many people would wish to use this change. If the multiple jobs and other factions make sense for your character RP'ly and based on their backstory, then I don't believe people should be scriptly limited to what they want to explore.

I think that based on prior player interaction with the script, we need to operate with the assumption that people will use it to their advantage, if possible. The main suggestion says no limit; that would get out of control very very quickly. I can see having a third non-government faction slot, for sure, but I am strongly against removing limits entirely.

Original Post edited to accommodate these points.

  3. Suggestion is all in the title: Remove the limit on the number of official factions players can be in.

Not entirely sure why people who are involved with multiple groups must choose which two faction chats they wish to be a part of. It might not affect many people on the server, but there are people who may be trying to grow their own faction into an official one while also working 2 government jobs and will be forced to choose to leave one of those jobs on purely OOC reasons thanks to this limitation if they find success with their own faction.

EDIT: To consolidate my responses to counterpoints or limitations brought up for this, I'm editing this and will post below to notify of this edit.

While I think the rules and regulations of government factions will prevent people from holding 4 incredibly different jobs on one character (time will catch up with them and they will get fired for inactivity from one or more relatively quickly), I'd be open to either limitation that's been presented so far:

    • Keep a limit in place but raise it to 3 or 4
    • Create a new faction category for hobby groups like Burnout or LSMC and create an limit on the number of factions within each category (i.e. 2 gov and 1 hobby).

The idea of OOC limitations on character development choices still doesn't sit well with me, but this is a compromise I'd be open to making.

No way, while the most recent rules does help the smaller gangs like Russian Mafia, FSO and Sinaloa Cartel and many others trying to make their way in the city while also stopping cops being obliterated by 70+ gang members sharing joint freq.

This suggestion would just kill criminal organizations as whole and create more clap squads who have have no interest in rping and you'd also see massive spike in reports, constantly being questions is to who youre with and so on no thanks.

No, this rule is not saying that large gangs would have to disband, it's just saying you can't bring the whole squad out to a lab to hold it down. The overall gang still exists, but each criminal operation would be limited to 5 at a time.

  5. +1

This rule works incredibly well on other very popular RP servers, namely because a response limit also applies to LEOs at the same time. Large-scale gangs still operate on them, it cuts down on advantages brought on by time-zone differences, and PD still have a a perfectly good chance of catching crims due to being allowed slightly more numbers than crims.

    -1

PD have dumped a lot of resources into organizing massive response units over the past year that would likely be deemed against the rules with this, which would lead to a lot of rightfully upset people in those factions.

tldr, great rule on other servers, not sure if we're ready to make that jump on this server yet. I think the recent ban on joint freqs is a step in this direction though. Maybe wait a bit longer and see how that rule changes things long-term and then bring this conversation back up if it's not enough?

  6. This is a suggestion that I'm very hesitant supporting. I love all of the pros listed, however the Flatbed's ability to pick up vehicles is a very forceful script that I think needs to stay locked behind being a member of an official government faction to ensure that RP standards are upheld with it and that Powergaming does not ensue.

    Picture this:

There's an ongoing vehicular chase. The person being chased has the brilliant idea of parking their car up in a mule to hide and get away. They radio their friend to set it up for them. They roll up to the mule and their buddy is sitting in the driver seat of the Mule. The person running away has a macro ready for "/me rolls the car into the mule," while their friend is waiting with the ctrl+x open to click the car and TP it inside the mule. They then get in the Mule and drive away.

Based on the very evident habits of people rushing RP to win situations, I think it's very easy to imagine this kind of scenario happening should they be given the ability, and I don't think it's something I want to see. It's already bad enough watching police skip RP on using Tow trucks because it's not in their handbook to do so (Edited to reflect an unintentionally false accusation, I've only been told my multiple police officers of various ranks that nobody in the faction is told they have to RP tow trucks and made a false assumption about the handbook based on that.); imagine the general population gaining access to a script that makes vehicles inaccessible to other players while still being mobile all on the fly.

Very cool concept, it would be great for the character I play, but I gotta -1 this out of lack of trust for the playerbase to properly use it.

To clear your confusion, you do not need to roleplay purchasing a body camera every 48 hours. What you need to roleplay is putting it on and turning it on prior to situations where you would potentially use the footage of ICly. You can not mid roleplay decide you are wearing a body camera, it has to be roleplayed prior to those interactions. This roleplay will now be valid for 48 hours unless it is invalidated by something else, in which case you need to roleplay putting your camera back on and start its recording. It is pretty self explanatory that this needs to be roleplayed in order to be used ICly. For something to be present, it needs to have been created somehow.

For your last point, both PD and SD already require their members to roleplay putting on a bodycam and turning it on prior to starting their shift, as well as the dashcam. Before this footage is used ICly, proof of roleplay is requested and if it can not be provided, the footage is not used ICly.

Right, this is how I perceived the rule to be understood, and Drizzy has kindly clarified the wording in his decision that sparked my interest in starting this thread to be in line with this understanding. Thank you for further clarification though!

I think if we're moving forward towards more realistic RP, and advocate for it (such as what you self-identified as), a gang banger with a bodycamera and a sharp pen makes absolutely no sense.

As long as a cop's word is evidence enough to be the sole cause of someone going to prison for multiple hours, I don't think we really have a place to judge crims for how they choose to counteract that. It's all IC.

The day had come. The “backup” transponders had finally arrived at LSC. Baxter eagerly opened up the office door upon arriving to work and saw the package sitting in the pile of mail from the day. He quickly tore it open and emptied out the four transponders he’d ordered, putting two of them in storage upstairs and pocketing the other two. He sat himself down at a computer and began the process of activating them.

Baxter let Matt and Niki know ASAP that the transponders were good to go. They all threw on a change of clothes and grabbed cars they didn’t drive very often, wanting not to be recognized, then took off to Old Bayview. They parked around back outside the fences to conceal the fact that anyone was there, then hopped the fences to sneak inside and approach the gates. Matt and Niki were peeking around the gates to watch for traffic on the road as Baxter opened up the consoles on each gate, snipping out the old transponders and soldering in the new ones.

It was done. The Board of Los Santos Underground had access to the gates of Old Bayview. Matt and Niki hopped back over the fence and split up to watch down the road both ways while Baxter pulled into the shop. He was on edge as he snipped the wires of the CCTV cameras in plain sight of the road. At one point Matt called out a Police cruiser coming down the road while Baxter was perched precariously on a ledge with his car outside. He had no time to hop down and hide before it rolled by! By a stroke of dumb luck however, sitting still and holding his breath up there was enough for the cruiser to keep driving and not stop to investigate. Shortly thereafter, all CCTV cameras were deactivated and Baxter had the hard drive with any previously stored footage in his bag as he departed the shop.

With the gates now controlled by them, and the security of the lot blind to them, the three changed back into their normal clothes, got their favorite cars out, and rolled down to revel in what they hoped would be their final home. They set a few ground rules for folks while at the shop:

    • Phones off while inside the gates

    • Cars are not to be outside the garage without lookouts on the road.

    • NOBODY knows about this except initiated members.

Once the rules were set, the bottles were popped and they finally laid back to relax. They would need the rest before the weekend they were about to have!

((As a final mention, please note that it is still NRP to use the gates here for regular mechanics even though the script will allow you to, the only reason we are using them is because server staff have approved a proposal for alt-RP that we submitted to them. We want to give a MASSIVE thank you to the staff team who reviewed and approved this for us!))

Without making any judgement towards the report that is cited, I have to say this is the first time I see this rule interpreted this way. To further explain:

    - Usually RP of putting a bodycam on and turning it on (with screenshot proof + /time) is sufficient

    - Of all the situations I have been involved as PD/SD or CIV, no one has ever asked me about proof of purchase or carrying a bodycam.

As such, I suggest the following temporary solution.

    - Allow RP of purchasing a bodycam to be valid past the 48 hour mark, only enforcing whether the bodycam was put on and turned on within 48 hours. This would mean people have one screenshot of when they bought the bodycam and then screenshots every 48 hours of when they decide to use it, etc...

The long-term suggestion would be the following:

Make a slot dedicated to the bodycam in the inventory and a bodycam item purchasable in 24/7s, then people no longer need to worry about RP'ly purchasing a bodycam every 48 hours (Let's be honest, how realistic is it to buy a new bodycam every 2 days).

This is also a bonus for law enforcement. Have you ever detained someone suspected of a crime, but need that little sliver of evidence ? Well, now you can easily check with /frisk if they have a bodycam on and use that towards your investigative RP. (Assuming PC is reached and warrant is aquired)

As for Civilians/Criminals, the choice would then be yours as to whether you want to carry a bodycam, but perhaps risk it capturing stuff you don't want to be seen.

As for the bodycam object itself, you would be able to right click it and a few options would be present:

    - Turn on/off: Allowing people to have a bodycam, but not actively be recording unless they turn it on scritply.

    - Check Bodycam: Prints a chat message telling whoever is checking the bodycam if it is recording and if it is on how long it has been recording for

    - Save Footage: Print out a chat message claiming footage from XX:XX UTC to YY:YY UTC has been saved onto an SD card (then give the player an SD card item like the 24/7)

    - Smash: Like radios, you would be able to destroy a bodycam

I think this is a great idea for a rule/game suggestion post if this is truly the direction that staff want bodycam RP to go, but I'm still not convinced that we are reading into this rule the proper way yet. Best bet might just be to see where the decision appeal on this report goes before thinking of suggestions for this.

To be fair, it does seem to be a bit questionable to be wearing a bodycamera as a gang member. I think you would struggle to find a career criminal in the hood going around with a bodycamera on his person. If anything, they'd be shot for it. It's mainly cops and civilians that wear them. I'm not against people having to do some extra work if they wish to wear them, except when it makes sense to be provided by an employer (including DCC, Weazel, etc)

Not trying to make this a crim/PD thing in the slightest since I don't have a character in either realm, just genuinely looking for a clarification on the rules here. It doesn't make sense to have disposable body cameras that only last 48 hours, but according to the rulebook and this recent warning it sounds like that's how we have to RP if want to use a body camera. It would make a lot more sense to RP buying a body cam once, save the evidence of it, then only be forced to do that RP again if you die or there is RP evidence of someone else removing it from you.

This is the first time I've seen the use of a body cam being referred to as asspulling so I'm really just looking to clarify if this is a new precedent being set or if people have been treating it too lax in the past, and if I will need to provide evidence of purchase within the last OOC 48hrs of a body cam when submitting IA reports in the future (accompanied by the regular requirements of proof of turning it on every time you log in).

  12. This discussion is based on the recent ruling in this report:

I want to start by saying this discussion is not about the access to cloud storage without RP approval, but about the other language in the decision. According to this decision, one must have RP proof of having a body cam on their person period (purchasing, carrying, etc.). Furthermore, according to the rules on Powergaming -

    • Players must capture time stamped evidence performing RP that will potentially influence future interactions and evidence is only valid for 48 hours, death, or until others RP invalidates it.

Following both of these points, this implies that players must RP buying a body cam every two days, on top of RPing turning it on every time they log in (this latter part is not new).

Am I reading into this properly? If so, will LEOs start enforcing this extra bit of RP (purchasing a bodycam in the last 48 hours) when filing IAs or accepting evidence for crime reports? Because I've never been asked for that proof... And is this worth a rule suggestion for an exception to the purchasing aspect of this?
