I've been new to the server for the past week, and have had lots of fun.
I just purchased my first dirtbike last night after saving up, got me super chuffed.

While feeling out the bike, I autopilot a wheelie for no more than 15-20 metres, of which an officer witnesses and lights me up, wee-oo wee-oo. I pull over since roleplaying with police is fun and instantly initiating a pursuit isn't an authentic interaction for our situation.

I enjoyed my time RPing with the officers like I always have. The punishment feels adequate being a meaty fine and timeout for half an hour. Except this time, a new charge informed me that my license was suspended for two days. Oh no! I thought to myself, that'll be at least an hour each or something, guess I'll hang it up for the night. As I return the next IRL day, keen for some cheeky RP, I learn that my license remains suspended. Huh, weird. I contacted support and they let me know that yes, in fact, it'll be two entire days IRL until my license is returned. Now here's where I need to cut the etiquette.

Bro what the frick?? TWO REAL-LIFE DAYS, FOR DOING A SINGLE WHEELIE??, is unimaginably petty, and in my opinion, a mechanic like this only contributes to pushing both criminals and police further towards their extremes.

The gameplay loop for cops and criminals requires a holistic approach from all parties, we are responsible for providing each other with roleplay opportunities and when the 'balance of power' becomes too lopsided, or begins to feel unfair, we get negative consequences. Now I've read through this thread's replies. I wished to know the LEO's side as well, and I agree, that arresting the same criminal over and over again would be annoying as hell, especially if they keep leading chases around the map and wasting time, only to be imprisoned, and released hours later to do it again. It's unimaginative and it's just milking a cat-and-mouse gameplay loop, but I think you'd find a correlation between the level of punishment, and what an individual would do to avoid that punishment.

Now equipped with the knowledge that the repercussions of license suspension are so harsh, any situation that might involve light RP or a simple arrest, I now feel obligated to engage in pursuit since the consequences will be severe either way, so I may as well guarantee I'll get most 'enjoyment' for my buck right? And now every officer will assume I'm just some jackass who wants to get chased constantly, so when they finally capture me, inflicting a punishment like a license suspension feels applicable. Furthermore, now that I know I can't retrieve or use my vehicle for two days, I'm just not going to engage with the server until the period is over, even though I'd quite like to. I think a system that perpetuates avoiding the game isn't ideal for player retention. I believe the current system promotes this way of thinking, and as a result, we get less roleplay overall.

The criminal gameplay loop already has so much risk involved, and consequences for those risks. To play a losing hand is fun if you know you'll get opportunities to roleplay and that any punishment would be valid. But to suffer the initial loss of items/inventory, then any fines or payments, then actual prison time, and then to have that loss affect you for multiple days afterward? yikes, jinkies, fair dinkum.

The suggestions revolved around stacking demerits or based on recidivism seem like good middle-ground approaches.
I don't have a solution, but god damn can I point and say, that's a problem.

The suggestion / thread was initially opened by me, mostly for players like you who dont have 9 vehicles out there to just use after a suspension, while it inconveniences me, its just not as much, and when analytically thinking about it, it serves no one no value and takes away from people who want to play the server, and / or are limited, because again this isnt a city with traffic, crowd, transportation system where you get around x to z etc, losing mobility on GTA is very de-motivating for some players to play, for me it is just an annoyance i can brush off, given I can have people drive me, or give me a vehicle, or take one of my other vehicles, but critically speaking on the general player, its an unhealthy mechanic, and you as a somewhat new player, described the experience and analytics of it better than me or anyone on this thread, so thank you

To enhance that, how about a temporary side inventory with small volume when a person has that briefcase/bag in his inventory. Like a side pocket of a bag that is easily accessibly realistically without opening the entire bag.

Been suggested multiple times, access to bags / breifcases being accessible when on you if you press I, makes no sense to put it on the floor to search it

I don't have anything to contribute to the other points as I don't use them to cook drugs.

With the rotation of labs they also rotate when shutdown by PD/SD. Already today at least 1 lab was shutdown and moved to a new location. I believe both factors of rotation and the shutdowns will make the labs rotate before the 1-2 week hits.

I'm with you on the rotation not being much of an issue, but the labs having a mix of 2 types of tables, when you'll only use 1 is the thing, everyone who goes to LSD/coke labs, goes to cook those 2 drugs, and everyone who goes to cook at the Crack/etc labs, goes to cook one of the drugs, which is why they were good for their purposes, having 6-7 of the same type tables, per lab, x2 labs would be the most ideal

The issue with blanket lowering/removal is that people don't really fear the prison time / fines, especially established players. Perhaps a reasonable middle-ground is to issue it based on recidivism.

i.e. if you get arrested once in the last 7 days, you do not get a license suspension, if you get arrested twice you get 1 day license suspension, three times 2 days and so on.

That way people that play rarely/smartly are not overly punished while serial criminals are encouraged to change their ways or receive repercussions.

im with that, i avoid prison for a long while, and when I do, its not going down easy, and usually get the max time possible, being wanted, escaping, and staying on the run / low for weeks sometimes,. and I usually dont log off and stay on to do my time, to continue my RP when im out, having that 24 hour suspension sometimes can just be annoying asf specially if you wanna go use your vehicles and not be driven around / ask for a ride

I don't mean a singular situation which would require an IA, I mean the entire court system dedicated to protecting citizens and their rights. Criminal cases are exactly this; A chance to prove innocence in the court of law because in our city the police have the right to apply charges prior to a trial (which is for the sake of time) but lead to issues with police not being checked. Now you can get charges reversed and compensation for time served.

"Facing a criminal charge is a serious and potentially life-changing situation and as such, one of the most important functions of the San Andreas Judicial Branch is that of the Superior Court of San Andreas. Citizens arrested for any misdemeanor or felony charge may petition the courts to hear their case, in which one of the Judicial Branch’s Judges will review evidence and testimony in both a professional and timely manner, evaluating legal arguments from a neutral and unbiased view so that proper justice may be upheld."

Police officers can and will make mistakes too

You wait 3-4 + OOC months (at least)  for anything to do with JB, at it's current state, making it almost non-functional

I wouldn’t be against removing license suspensions all together. If keeping them but at a reduced time is something developers/staff would prefer then at least its better than it is now.

Imo the jail should be the punishment and not stopping people from driving after they come out.

Cant, and isnt IC, for reasons I have already given that you're not addressing. also what Calvin just said also bombs the IC suggestion as now its a script issue? didn't know that played a part.

Yes the script only allows you to do 1 day , 2 days , 3 days, and so on, with possible intervals only being in multiples of 24 hrs

All of the comments being made saying LEO's input is "dismissive" or unneeded because they are not impacted is untrue and not positive to discussion. Everyone is allowed to have an opinion; doesn't mean you have to like it or agree.

Criminal jail time or license suspensions do in fact effect LEOs. The criminal activity that occurs on the server has a direct correlation to LEOs RP opps and response. In the same way that if we increased license suspension time to 4 OOC days, LEOs would likely sit around with nothing to do because there would be no criminal activity occurring, if the license suspension time was decreased to say 4 hours, then there would be a sharp increase in criminal activity as crims can get their cars back sooner, evade more often, etc. While you might say that this would be good for LEOs (in some ways it might be), it can also be negative. If license suspensions were dropped to a degree that LEOs were in pursuits non-stop for hours, number one it would get tiring and boring as hell, and number two it would decrease availability of police to do other tasks such as responding to 911 calls or, god forbid, respond to the impound.

If the argument being made is "it has no impact on LEO and there is 0 downside to reducing the license suspension time", then why not just remove license suspensions all together? Why not get rid of prison altogether? Why even have LEO's? Let criminals just do what they want and have 0 consequence to their actions. Then they get to have 24/7 uptime with no OOC wait time. Hopefully you see where I am going with this. There needs to be a middle ground between the two. There has to be some consequence to criminals being caught. If you really want to perform criminal activities 24/7 with no consequence, I would recommend GTA online as a good solution.

As I mentioned previously though, this is an IC suggestion. The reason I say that is, yes, the discussion includes OOC elements and has some OOC impact on players, but the same way that laws and jail time gets changes for your charges by the IC Government, license suspensions and suspension time is defined by the IC government. The only way you will see change here is to bring the suggestion IC.

With the script only allowing the command in day interval , that’s somewhat ooc, so was prison cap
