A Fresh Start

All his life his name had been Doc Conroy, that is until it wasn't. Now his name was Draose Magnus and had been for about three weeks now. It was six months ago to the day that Doc (Draose) thought life couldn't get any worse than it had at that moment. It was that moment when the Feds had him cornered in the back of some abandoned hole in the wall club in Vice City, that life as he knew it was over. Doc (Draose) had been on the run from the Feds and the syndicate he used to work for. Both wanted him bad.... the syndicate for his betrayal, and the Feds for the crimes he committed in the name of the syndicate. When it came down to it he was relieved that the Feds had found him first, after all if the syndicate had found him first then he would already be nothing more than a stain on the ground and a forgotten after thought.

Doc (Draose) had committed a grievous error in judgement ten years and six months ago in Liberty City. He had fallen in love, in love with his boss's wife.... Sylvia. Some say love is blind, others say love makes you stupid. In Doc's (Draose) case it was the latter and in a big way. Not only did Doc (Draose) fall in love with and begin an affair with the boss's wife, but he also stole from the boss for the wife. The two love birds had planned to run off together to Vice City with a half-million dollars in jewelry that belonged to the syndicate boss.... an automatic death warrant was signed when Doc (Draose) agreed to that plan. He and Sylvia had fled Liberty City with the Jewels and were on the run for six years before the syndicate caught up with them. They hadn't eluded danger that long because the boss was sloppy or stupid but because he wanted to lull them into a false sense of security and comfort, and it worked.

Doc (Draose) and Sylvia had sold only a small portion of the jewels to get themselves set up with a comfortable living. The rest Doc (Draose) held on to for a rainy day, little did he know that rainy day would hit in a big way. So in love and so happy, all worries of the lives they ran from had faded within the first year and a half. They figured the boss had written it off as a loss or maybe he had bigger fish to fry and considered them not worth his time. Either way the two lovers could not have been more wrong. Six years into their false sense of freedom Doc (Draose) arrived home from a day of golf with some fellas he had become friends with over the past few years. He came home to total terror, as the walls of his home had been painted with the blood of his beloved Sylvia. He knew it was her blood when the her lifeless eyes stared back at him as her head stood mounted on the living room wall, separated from her body.... of which there was no sign of.

There was no time to grieve in his mind, all of his survival instincts had ran into overdrive, he knew who did this, he knew that the boss had never forgotten or given up at that moment, and he fled the scene. Doc (Draose) was surprised and relieved that syndicate thugs had not remained there to wait for him, to kill him also. Then it dawned on him... the boss was a sadistic bastard and more than likely wanted him to suffer, to sweat, to panic and then take him out. Doc (Draose) had grown to love Vice City and vowed to return on day if he lived long enough. For three years and ten months, he relocated from one city and town to the next, up and down the East Coast one seedy hotel after the next making sure never to spend too much. He went as far up as Canada never coming back down any further than North Carolina. Then he decided he wasn't going to live like this anymore, he decided he was going back to Vice City, to the city he had grown to love with the woman he loved and lost. He wasn't back in Vice City any more than two months before his troubles caught up with him again but this he had been running from the syndicate and the Feds... which brings things back to Doc (Draose) being cornered in that hole in the wall club.

Now in Federal custody, Doc (Draose) had been given a choice... spill everything he knew about the syndicate or do the time for all the crimes they could prove, and even those he couldn't. All of which would add up to multiple life sentences, which in turn would also add up to a death sentence. He knew that the syndicate had contacts and people in the inside of the prison system. For his on safety and survival, Doc (Draose) told his tale, he gave names, dates, locations, and so much more... all of which led up to the boss. Ten whole years of running had come to an end, and after three more months of court room appearances and testifying it was all over. Big time players including the boss himself had been found guilty and were going away for the rest of their lives. Doc (Draose) would spend a few more months in Federal custody and in a safe house while his previous life was being erased for his help in the case.

Fast forward to the here and the now and we find Doc with a new name, a new identity and a clean slate. Draose Magnus stepped off of the plane at Los Santos international Airport with a smile and a positive attitude. In all his travels he had never made it out to the West Coast, what a great place to start a new life. The Feds didn't let him keep the rest of the jewels they had confiscated, but Draose didn't care. However they did provide him with a bank account and enough to get started in his new city. He was thankful to them for that, thankful for getting his life back... a life back which was riches enough. Grabbing his bags and making his way through the airport, Draose was eager to start his new life. Having finally exited the airport he stopped and looked up at the sky, the buildings and exhaled... there were so many possibilities now. He didn't know what this new life had in store but he knew he was going to make the best of it.
