IC Phone number change

If I buy a new custom phone number with credits - will people that have my phone number lose my phone number and will have to get my phone number again?

I dont know if this is an IC question but realistically this makes sense though I wondered if I will have to go through the hassle of messaging everyone I know about my new phone number and to text me there.

Or is there like a script in place that people who had my old phone number still will be able to call and text me?
