Sam Carlin, New Beginnings.

Be not afraid of growing slowly, be afraid of standing still. -Chinese Proverb

A new beginning should be just that; as Sam stepped from the plane that familiar feeling of excitement mixed with just the right amount of dread to form the perfect concoction. A broken home; a man determined to take the pain, the nostalgia and the longing for the past and use it positively in a change that would start a new story.

Standing at just under six foot Sam was a relatively tall man but definitely lacking in physical stature. Sam couldn't handle a weapon let alone use it in combat. No, no, no... todays weapons are up there in the grey, that's where all the great battles are won.

Quick wit, intelligence and an academic history to be proud of were Sam's finest traits. It's a shame he couldn't handle a knife if his life depended on it. Hopefully, it wouldn't.

The baking sun gave forth and beamed on the taxis in the rank at arrivals. Clutching his medical manuals and briefcase, he stepped into the nearest yellow vehicle and passed the driver an address scrawled on a furled up piece of paper.

It was weird to be driven, he thought. Sam had spent his younger existence racing burnt out taxis, just like the one he found himself sat in. Sam thought of himself as the next Michael Schumacher or Lewis Hamilton; finishing twice as amateur junior karting champion will do that to you. In truth he was no super star indie car or Formula One driver per-se, but it would be wrong to consider his driving abilities lacking. His driving skill was definitely above average, perhaps there would be an opportunity to prove it.
