Franky & Randy Taylor

The story of the Taylor brothers

Sons of Jerry Taylor, a lawyer, and Jennifer Taylor, a navy-captain, a government career was always in the cards for these two. When their father ran off with his mistress and their mother was sailing internationally for long periods of time, they were shipped off and fostered by their aunt Bayley (or Baba) for most of their teenage years. She lived in a small rural town. Franky idolized his parents, and took his younger brother along in that worship, so much so that as soon as the boys graduated high school, they left their aunt Baba to the nearby city of “Broken Hill” to apply for jobs within the government.

Although the army only declined Franky for not being ‘team-minded’ enough, both of them sought their fate elsewhere. Being struck with the same denial and criticism at the local police force, there was one officer by the name of William Banks that saw their potential and took them under his wing. After a year of getting their life together and adjusting to urban city life, they reapplied for the force. And they got in.

It would be lying to suggest they passed their exams with flying colors; especially Randy liked the romantic opportunities that came with city-life and was distracted a lot, but eventually they both ended up on the streets in blue. Although, contrary to what they wanted, they got split up rather quickly. Banks was still keeping an eye on both of them and was especially taken by Franky’s ability to blend in with the local community and grow good-will amongst the locals. It was because of this, that Banks hand-picked Franky for an undercover job that meant infiltrating a local drug ring. Although Randy felt left out, he encouraged his brother to take this opportunity.

For six months Franky was working the drug ring, entering into their inner circle. Many had warned him about ‘getting too close’, but Franky turned out to be extremely resilient to falling into the trap of ‘sleeping with the enemy’. He had identified key-figures within the organization and had supplied the law with extended roadmaps of trade-routes and logistics amongst many other solid intel.

Meanwhile Randy had made a path of his own. No longer having his brother to rely on, he was forced to become more autonomous in his work and focus on his own talents. Not only did he show his own way of dealing with crime in the city, he was actually tipped for a position as detective within the city police department for his talent for sniffing out suspicious behavior.

It was around this time that things turned around quickly for both brothers. In his path towards becoming a detective, Randy had silently created a lot of animosity with his colleagues, since he turned out to be quite the talker and had become used to voicing his opinion on a lot of things that others felt he had no business involving himself in. Besides that, the drug ring Franky was involved in, had grown significantly and had been able to extend their influence over the city, by violently taking out their local competition and rubbing shoulders with law-enforcement. Despite the many times Franky had warned his handlers this was happening, little to nothing was done to combat it.

Then, the leak happened. Together with 3 other undercover officers, Franky’s profile was leaked. Randy had only been training as a detective for about 2 weeks when he was one of the first ones to learn about the leak, as it happened. Not knowing exactly how knee- deep his brother was at the time, he broke all protocol and texted his brother on his ‘criminal phone’.

“You’re made, big time! Get the fuck out! Now!”

There truly was little time to respond. Franky was in the middle of a logistical operation, driving a lorry to a drop-off point when he got the text. Although the brothers had grown apart somewhat, since Franky basically lived amongst the drug-ring, leaving Randy alone in their apartment, Franky instantly knew that shit had hit the fan. His brother wouldn’t joke about this. He knocked out his passenger, threw him out of the lorry and left him for dead on the road. He shifted the lorry off the highway and put the pedal to the metal. Shots were fired, but Franky remained unharmed. After ditching the lorry and hijacking a random car, he drove straight to the police station. When arriving there, another text from Randy. “Stay in the car.”

Meanwhile the police station was in total mayhem-mode. One of the four undercover agents was already reported to be found dead in her car, and the other three were still missing. Yet Randy noticed that very little was done to get them out. Although he was yet to become a detective by title, he felt strongly that somehow they didn’t want the agents to be saved. Something was up, and if it involved his brother, that ment it involved him too. Trying to avoid the madness at the station his attention was drawn to a strange car pulling up at the station, and it took him only seconds to recognise his brother. He needed to get out… fast. After texting him Randy sneaked to the door, only to be stopped by his boss, ordering him to stay in the office. Randy disobeyed, and made a B-line to the exit.

As soon as Randy hopped into the car and told his brother to get the hell out of here, they took off. Out of the city, out of the area. Ditching the car on the outskirts and taking public transport back to the place of their youth. Back to Aunt Baba. The moment she saw her two boys at the door, she knew they were in trouble. She packed whatever rations she could for them, and handed them the car keys. “I love you both”- were her last words, as she handed them a postcard and and eveloppe as she pushed her boys out the door.

They opened the envelope after they had hunkered down at a local motel to find some cash, a receipt for a key-box and a letter. It was a letter from their mom. She had clearly written it in case of emergency and it was full of loving words. It also mentioned a small place that she owned in a city called Los Santos. The postcard showed an apartment complex in this ‘Los Santos’ city and it had an address number written on it. Still confused about what had happened, and nowhere else to go, the Taylor brothers set out for Los Santos the very next day, to go look for whatever their mom had left for them there, and hopefully start a new life for themselves.

What can the Taylor brothers do in Los Santos?
Look for their Mom or people that she (used to) know.
Find out what happened at their previous job.
Make a new living for themselves whilst staying under the radar.

Potential play for others:
People that knew their mom.
People that know about what happened in Broken Hill.
Maybe the drug ring where Franky was undercover has a branch in Los Santos now too.
