  1. Early Life Joseph Dredd was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. He lived in a neighborhood called Englewood, where he was “raised” by his drug-addicted mother and abusive father. An intelligent child, he would often find himself in trouble... Whether it was swindling the neighborhood kids out of a few dollars, or manipulating them to commit petty thefts for him. He quickly found himself wrapped up with the wrong groups and hanging out with unsavory people instead of going to school. At the age of 17, he saw his childhood best friend gunned down in the streets. Witnessing this senseless act of violence saw a huge paradigm shift in the way that Joseph looked at life. He distanced himself from his street life and devoted himself to his studies. Being a bright individual, he was able to easily obtain his GED and even scored well enough to get a full-ride scholarship to University. After finishing school, he reconnected with his half-brother Maverick McCummin and decided to move out to Los Santos and start a life. Legal Boi Immediately upon moving to Los Santos, Joseph applied for a position as a Deputy Sheriff with the Los Santos County Sheriff’s Department. He was accepted and served a short stint with the department before he became frustrated with the hours that he was working and the lack of other deputies on the shift. He resigned with an honorable discharge and once again was a private citizen with little direction. All the years of listening to Maverick harp about how much fun he had working at Los Santos Emergency Medical Services, piqued Joseph’s interest. He applied and was accepted into the ranks of LSEMS. Joseph spent several months working hard and proving himself within the department. He quickly worked his way through the ranks and achieved the position of Head Surgeon. However, after a long grueling time in EMS… he became burnt out and felt unappreciated for the work that he had done. He felt like he poured so much of his time into it and nobody seemed to appreciate it. The Slip Back Into Darkness Joseph once again found himself meeting and hanging out with people who were involved in the criminal life. He was able to easily identify with these people and understood their way of life, using his experience from his youth to blend in. He saw how carefree they were and how much fun they were having. This was a huge change from his stressful career at LSEMS. He had made several friends in several organizations but ultimately decided to try his luck with The Royals. Being that he was a primarily legal citizen for most of his time in the city, his initiation and trial phase was much more brutal than that of a normal person joining the crew. Several of the members constantly harped on Joseph about how they didn’t trust him. After a lot of work and time, he was able to eventually earn their trust and became a member of the family.
